The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill is some scary looking stuff. 10 year sentence for being at any protest that, amongst other things, causes or is at risk of causing 'serious annoyance'. That's all protests then is it?
The right to protest is the cornerstone of every democracy.
Aibu to be scared about where this is heading?

@plumpuddisnice

"My initial thoughts too when I realised that this bill was going through. / There's much more to this!"

So, I don't agree with any of the conspiracy theories that have come out since the world sleep walked into strangeness. The well publicised conspiracy theories are the crazy ones, so that the word and idea of conspiracy is demonised. But it's worth be vigilant that there might be more going on, so keep an open mind.

It makes you wonder about the links between xr and the government, were the protests staged in order to make these changes acceptable? Then of course we had covid thrown into the mix.
Or this a conspiracy theory to far?

flashbac · 20/03/2021 10:13

With police and other authorities soon able to commit crimes if working under cover (see Spycops Bill) it's not inconceivable that protests might be undermined from within...

I know the nazi germany trope is often overused...

...but, if you ever wondered how an entire country let evil take over , the parallels are concerning to say the least.

This feels really pivotal. We have to stop this.

I don't feel we can. They have a big majority, people still think they are the best option.

Even more worrying is the changes they are going to make to elections law and constituency boundaries.

Too many people in England vote Conservative, that is all there is to it. You get the government you vote for.

We can stop this. We really can. Labour Lords will hopefully vote against. If you vote Labour, and if you don’t but especially if you do or have a Labour MP please email or tweet them and thank them for taking this good decision. Good for them to feel backed up. They have obviously heard those who have been lobbying against. www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jan/14/labour-peers-to-oppose-amendments-to-police-and-bill
