To think it’s normal for kids to play with old loo roll cardboard?!

My DH thinks is very unhygienic to handle the cardboard tube out of used loo rolls and for DC to play with them. I think this is completely mad and have always known little kids to use them for building and crafts etc. I really don’t get it. AIBU??

You read my mind!

YANBU they are often crafted with or used as pretend telescopes here.

vodkaredbullgirl · 12/03/2021 09:24

Confused why?

ComDummings · 12/03/2021 09:24

I think it’s gross. I didn’t really think about it until the kids started bringing home ‘junk modelling’ from school. We all sent in recycling for the school to use. All I could think was ‘this is has been in one of these kids’ bathrooms’ Envy (not envy!). Now I’ve got the ick about the kids using old loo rolls, including ones from our own bathroom 🤷🏼‍♀️

MzHz · 12/03/2021 09:25

I used to save them up and ds would put them into pyramids and bash cars into them! He’d call them Oooohs 🤣

Babdoc · 12/03/2021 09:26

He doesn’t have much experience of toddlers, does he! I once caught one of mine playing in the cat litter tray and the other eating a worm in the garden...Grin
Loo roll tubes barely count.

Latenightreader · 12/03/2021 09:26

We used to sterilise them in the microwave before using them for modelling - can’t remember how long for but it wasn’t long...

justanotherneighinparadise · 12/03/2021 09:26

God almighty society is really fucked isn’t it. This is the thing your DH wants to get animated about? Really?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/03/2021 09:27

My DS has just gone off to school with 3 loo roll tubes, a kitchen roll tube and a foil tube for a mystery project.

I suppose if very young children were handling them with pooey hands it wouldn't be great.

Mumdiva99 · 12/03/2021 09:28

Some kids places have policies about not using them. But really junk modelling is great fun. And have my kids ever got sick from a loo roll tube? Not that I'm aware of.

Cushionsnotpillows · 12/03/2021 09:28

Absolutely completely normal. Unless they'd been smeared in shit, I can't see any problem with this.

Thay was my first thought. DS has been eating sticks, leaves, cat litter and all manner of fluff found on the floor since he was about 6 months old. A loo roll tube is probably the most hygienic thing he chewed on some days. Grin
Sparklfairy · 12/03/2021 09:31

Does he bring his phone in with him for a leisurely shit like most men on here? I'd argue that is more hygienic tbh if hes gonna be daft.

I agree that it’s OTT to be worked up about as it’s totally normal, but you sound quite deranged. Who’s to say he got ‘animated’ and even if he did it’s hardly cause for societal breakdown.
Potterythrowdown · 12/03/2021 09:34

Currently got some taped to the living room door for a pom pom drop game. We must be very unhygienic.

Really ?😳
mogtheexcellent · 12/03/2021 09:37

Had an explorer party for DD once. Used loo rolls to make binoculars for 45 kids.

Obviously I am evil for doing this.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/03/2021 09:46

My 19yr old has some stuck to the inside of her per snake's vivarium for him to slither in and out of!

Seeline · 12/03/2021 09:51

My DCs primary school always asked for recycling for junk modelling. They were always very certain to ask for all yoghurt pots etc to have been washed out, and no loo rolls please!

We always used them at home for craft, and Brownies, Cubs, Sunday school etc didn't seem so fussy!

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 12/03/2021 09:51

call the RSPCA - cruelty to snakes Grin
My cat plays with them occasionally - especially with a feather or two stuck on - or treats inside,

My mum used to make the most amazing fairy castles at Christmas.

vodkaredbullgirl · 12/03/2021 09:54

I stick dog treats into them for the dogs to chew. My dd gives them to her hamster to chew, though i take them out as he gnaws too loudly lol

BrilliantBetty · 12/03/2021 09:54

Yuck.

Not normal in our house and I wouldn't be happy if DC came home with loo roll cardboard from school.

Eh? It’s the boiling moisture in a microwave that kills bacteria not the radiation itself really

Were you wetting them then putting them in?

FuckyouCovid21 · 12/03/2021 09:57

My dogs like to rip them apart after charging around the house with them. I like to put the kitchen roll tubes on the smallest dog's legs to make her a robot dog. Hours of fun
