To think it’s normal for kids to play with old loo roll cardboard?!

My DH thinks is very unhygienic to handle the cardboard tube out of used loo rolls and for DC to play with them. I think this is completely mad and have always known little kids to use them for building and crafts etc. I really don’t get it. AIBU??

My sweet pea seedlings are thriving in them. Grin

I do not have actual evidence, I thought that if you could detect E. coli and C.Dif on a tube then it’s probably not a suitable toy. IMHO.

Normal at home, but banned at nursery.They weren’t allowed to accept them.

No

I expect you’d ‘detect’ E. coli in lots of things if you go looking for it. I personally will take comfort in the millions of school children who’ve engaged in loo roll crafts and emerged unscathed from the experience.

I have my dogs convinced a toilet roll is a special treat

Wtf is DH doing with loo roll to think this is unhygienic?

alexdgr8 · 15/03/2021 02:10

it is unhygienic. he is right.
could you give the children the centres of used kitchen rolls instead ?

See upthread comment about bacteria from raw meat and other food prep that could be on kitchen roll tubes

Personally I think the risks from either loo rolls or kitchen rolls are minimal, but I don’t think you can rule out one but not the other

I put treats inside, fold the ends in and throw them to my dog. This thread reads like a meme. Fears there's poop on something, microwaves it like popcorn.

@TheYearOfSmallThings

My DS has just gone off to school with 3 loo roll tubes, a kitchen roll tube and a foil tube for a mystery project.

I suppose if very young children were handling them with pooey hands it wouldn't be great.

Friends who teach, or used to teach, in Infant schools sy that their schools were told not to use them years ago, such a shame.
