Can anyone say they have 100% stuck to covid rules for the last year?

Just out of curiosity, can anyone say they completely have? e.g. no meeting up in groups slightly more than 6, sneaking the odd visitor in, not keeping a 1m distance when socialising, going out more than once a day in 1st lockdown... etc etc, just interested to know really!

@LadyDanburysCane

I also don't know anyone who's had COVID.

Whereas I know many people who have had it. All but one of them is a member if school staff, a police officer, a care worker or a school pupil. Several hospitalised. All still with us thank goodness.

18% of the staff at my school have had covid. One seriously.

And all of that suggests that it's their jobs that put them at risk, not any other activities people might be participating in.
callthevet · 12/03/2021 13:38

Nope

Movinghouseatlast · 12/03/2021 13:39

Yes, 100%.

I accept it is easy for me as I live in a tiny seaside village and am pretty cut off from people anyway. I can go for long walks straight from my house so no need to drive for example.

Dogmum81 · 12/03/2021 13:42

I’ve had to have a parents bubble (so my husband and and I and my parents instead of a support bubble with us and one other person ) as my dad has serious medical conditions which require regular hospital visits and he has been informed they cannot use public transport (we live in a tiny village anyway so getting to their nearest hospital would require 4 buses or very very expensive taxi rides none of which are great when he’s under general anesthetic ) and my mum doesn’t drive so I have to take him and wait in the car! Then because my dad currently can’t drive I need to take my mum to various appointments and shopping if it cannot be done online! (The joy of older parents)

But we’ve not seen my husbands family or seen no other friends or relatives and only ever stayed in my car if I have to take my parents to hospital /shopping! I walk our dog alone and definitely don’t meet up with anyone on my walk, all our shopping is done online if it can be and I do believe I have broken the lockdown law by caring for both parents but other than letting my dad get seriously ill and possibly die I do not feel guilty one bit, we cannot get an hospital ambulance so we have no alternative 🤷‍♀️

Not a chance

HugeAckmansWife · 12/03/2021 14:38

An excellent point there that so many cases are from legitimate activities. As I said many many pages ago, it is not rule breakers who have prevented this from 'going away' (not that it ever will). It is people or society functioning as it has to, albeit in the most limited way. That limited way cannot continue indefinitely and since clearly it doesn't eradicate Covid, we must accept its presence and live along side. Living does not, in my book, mean cowering in your living room and checking ever changing and nonsensical rules every five minutes.

OohKittens · 12/03/2021 14:40

Yes completely. My 13yr old is shielding and we have no friends or family to visit anyway Grin.

Bluemoon94 · 12/03/2021 14:41

Nope
I seen my family as I know we all been good when comes to strangers

rhowton · 12/03/2021 20:24

I can say I have broken the rules almost everyday.

AmyandPhilipfan · 12/03/2021 20:54

No, I probably haven’t. The first lockdown I stayed in the house and garden for a good few weeks before I started to feel slightly insane and started nipping to the local shop every now and again for chocolate or whatever. I didn’t take the kids anywhere until May when we started venturing to our local park but even then I wouldn’t let them play with any other kids until the play parks opened a few weeks later. Oh, and we didn’t go in a play park until Boris said they could open but we did start going in then and didn’t bother waiting the extra two weeks that my council took to announce that we were allowed in (with no extra safety measures in place so there was no reason not to open them as soon as they were ‘allowed’).

Since January I have met a friend in a local park a few times with our 3 year olds and, when it hasn’t been too freezing, we have sat on the same bench (with a space between us) to chat. But I know she’s been staying in otherwise and she knows I’ve been staying in otherwise so we both know the risk of catching anything from each other has been minimal. And, probably our biggest rule break was that I have twice had her kids in my house in the last month or so due to something coming up that she really needed to do without the kids being around. Technically not allowed but it was an important reason and I would have felt like such a dick if I hadn’t offered.

But I know I’ve stuck to the ‘stay local’ rule better than about 95% of people I know. Plus we haven’t visited any relatives since last summer - I saw my mum and my PILs once each in about July and that’s it. So all in all I think I’ve been fairly ‘good’ about following the rules.

blowinahoolie · 22/03/2021 19:29

I have to admit yes I have been sticking to the rules. I feel it's morally the correct thing to do.

weightedblanketlove · 22/03/2021 19:36

No, but 99% I have stuck to the rules and risk assessed the rest. We had friends over for a bbq in the summer with a new baby and it started pissing down. We let them in the house with the windows opened.

I let my child meet up with another just before the rule was lifted last spring as she was really struggling.

Subsequent lockdowns I have let my child play with another if we bump into people.

I work in the nhs where I have been in work the whole time at risk and unable to socially distance.

That's about as much rule bending as I've done.

Singlenotsingle · 22/03/2021 19:36

No. I don't obey orders that don't make sense. The social distancing ok; the wearing of a mask ok. Not much else though although I don't go to parties or gatherings of any kind. I've heard of situations where people have caught covid even though they've been staying indoors. I've read stories of people committing suicide because self isolating makes them so depressed and I don't want that to happen to me.

AnaofBroceliande · 22/03/2021 19:37

No.

Throckmorton · 22/03/2021 19:39

Yes, because I wanted to do my bit to prevent more people dying.

HopelessBlue192 · 22/03/2021 19:40

From when I realised it wasn't going to make a difference - I.e. that they would lock us down / open us up based on political decisions rather than the data? No, absolutely bloody not.

ShakespearesSisters · 22/03/2021 19:47

Just a few little breaches. I went for a walk with my work colleague the other day and sat and had a cuppa in her conservatory after with all the doors open. As the day before we had sat in a windowless staffroom on our lunch break and the well ventilated conservatory was a much less risky option.
My parents are in a childcare bubble for me and they came to mine last week when the kids weren't here and helped me with some gardening.
We have all been vaccinated due to age or profession and are lateral flow testing twice weekly.
As previous posters said, you do a personal risk assessment on these little infringements.

blowinahoolie · 22/03/2021 19:51

@Throckmorton

Yes, because I wanted to do my bit to prevent more people dying.
Crazy that, caring about others😲

Same here.

Avondklok · 22/03/2021 19:56

Yes. DH and I certainly. My teenager not so much.

StanfordPines · 22/03/2021 20:10

Yes, completely. Still caught Covid.

Bewareoftheblob · 22/03/2021 20:22

No, never. Well, maybe 23rd March 2020 to around Easter 2020. Then the originality wore off.

Planty13 · 22/03/2021 20:24

No not here

Ivy455 · 22/03/2021 20:29

No and I'm not remotely sorry. Thjs whole thing is an utter farce and I can't believe anyone is still going along with it.

Listener2021 · 22/03/2021 20:31

99%

Want this over.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 22/03/2021 20:56

A year on and I can still say that yes, I have stuck to the guidlines 100%. Me and my husband have been shielding for a year because of my blood cancer. 3 weeks ago I was also diagnosed with breast cancer. The last thing I need at the moment is to catch covid
