To think that if the only black adult in your family says they have experienced racism...

Overcastcloudy · 11/03/2021 14:14

... it's counterproductive to send a white man out to say, We're very much not racist?

That just is never going to end well. Ask Ian Murray how it worked out for him.

I couldn't care much either way about the Royal Family. Just baffled at the headline of William saying this.

@hansgrueber If you really think they would lie and cause this spotlight when she has received death threats, just for money, delusional and desperate for a pathetic argument to justify hating her does not even cover it.

PinkTonic · 14/03/2021 07:44

@Cokie3

Harry went to private school, not public school.
Ah. So you are American. That explains a lot.
Cokie3 · 14/03/2021 07:47

@PinkTonic No, Australian. But that has nothing to do with it. Public schools and private schools are two entirely different things. Most people all over the world understand this fundamental basic educational concept. Unless you are truly suggesting they had the royalty going to state schools, which as we know is a lie.

Cokie3 · 14/03/2021 07:48

@PinkTonic Also not sure what 'a lot' means. About me in particular, this thread, or what?

In Britain Public School doesn’t mean what you think it means. No one said royalty went to state schools.

PinkTonic · 14/03/2021 07:52

And here of course is a fine example of someone who is confidently stating ‘fundamental basic concepts’ that ‘everyone understands’, facts in other words, but is actually wrong. Ignorant of the facts.

Cokie3 · 14/03/2021 07:54

State schools are public schools. If Britain uses the wrong words, well, that's their issue not mine. But by basic common sense, a public school is open to the public. Hence PUBLIC. Private, is the word that Britain should be using. Private schools are the opposite of public.

Everyone except for one I think Wink

Lol wrong. If you use public when you mean private, that is wrong linguistically and ignorant of the facts.

Do you also say outside when you mean inside?

Left when you mean right?

Everyone except for you. No other country says public when they mean private. It's clear the issue is with you. ;)

Public Schools
@chaosrabbitland Er, so you mean every actress is considered to be a liar and they should be doubted no matter what they do or say because 'hey, they can act'? What an immature, bizarre and stupid comment!

She is also a human being with feelings and emotions. Not that you understand that.
no not every actress , just this particular one and yes i do think theres a lot of reason to doubt her . im guessing you are one of the believers though lol , i think that you are being obtuse with your sweeping assumption that i have stated that every actress is a liar , still i wont say more , and yes she is a human being with feelings and emotions , just i think hers are geared towards her own self interest and not much towards others

wheretonow123 · 14/03/2021 08:43

Correct me if I am wrong here but the comment was made to Harry and not Meghan and in passing. In my opinion considering Meghan's probable insecurity within the Royal Family then Harry would have been better advised not relaying the comment to Meghan - we know how hearsay and second hand comments can be taken up.

The person in question could well be racist / a total snob and there are probably many like that in the aristocracy in the UK. From some I have spoken to over the years there are beliefs and attitudes out there that would not be acceptable nowadays - but just think of it some of these people were born in a different era and to attitudes that are not in place today.

Harry should have realised that, take it in the context of the person that (probably) said it and not used and described it to Meghan and allow it to become the incendiary device that it did.

Of course the person shouldn't have said what they did but I would say that, in those positions, you need some tact and Harry doesn't seem to have too much of it.
@chaosrabbitland You sound quite deranged and twisted with hate. I feel sorry for you. There is not evidence at all that she lied about anything.

On the contrary.
theres no need to feel sorry for me , i think if you want to see people that sound deranged and twisted with hate maybe you need to rewatch the oprah winfrey inteview again lol , there is plenty of evidence that shes lied , for a start she took 13 or more trips abroad whilst she was at the palace , pretty fuckin hard with no passport ! there are two versions of the racist comment that was made , she said it was several conversations , harry came on and said it was one and before she was preganant i believe , they couldnt even match up their stories , but if you believe them then im afraid i feel a bit sorry for you as its naivety at its best

CecilyP · 14/03/2021 09:07

There is not evidence at all that she lied about anything.

The one definite lie was about them already being married in a secret ceremony (just the 3 of them) 72 hours before the big wedding. This simply could not happen.

GreenSlide · 14/03/2021 09:10

'If you don't know the right thing to say, keep your mouth shut - whether you're a member of the RF or a poster on MN. Just zip up that ignorance.'

Maybe people are starting to get pissed off with being accused of being racist?

It’s also been proven that her claim of not going out was false. Also if the British press treated her quite as badly as she claims, why were they not able to show actual evidence during the interview instead of faking it?
CecilyP · 14/03/2021 09:24

Sure, I'll take your word for it 😂

You surely know that even to have the most basic marriage in the U.K., you need to have 2 witnesses? Even if you pluck 2 randoms off the street! And those witnesses have to sign the marriage register so you get your marriage certificate? There’s no exceptions made for royalty!

GoodMumBadMum · 14/03/2021 09:28

I think that Meghan has experienced racism throughout her life. I also think she wasn't familiar with the royal family properly before marrying into it. There are a lot of protocols such as who can walk in front of whom, who gets a title etc that I think Meghan didn't realise were not in her favour and she has taken personally. She sees it that she is being treated differently to Kate or her child being treated differently to his cousins without realising that this is nothing to do with her or her ethnicity and more to do with Harry's position in the family. I think she wanted the pomp and ceremony that she saw when William married Kate, but hadn't realised that the rules would be different for her. I also think that not everything is about race and it is perfectly possible that members if the royal family don't like her as an individual.

That said, I think that the royal family probably do have some racist/classist/sexist attitudes and that Meghan has had a rough ride from the press.

@Tzigane

I really think MN should delete this thread now. Despite good posts from intelligent posters the thread is dominated by some really vile attitudes that does MN no favours.

I suppose it does serve as a testament to how far we still have to go as a society.

Of course you think this thread should be deleted. Too many people have pointed out too many of the mistakes, contradictions and misconceptions in your posts for your liking. It’s no wonder you’d prefer it gone.

Public school is the correct terminology for Eton.

Public schools are considered much more prestigious than a mere private school.

Perhaps you’re from the US where different terminology is used for schooling with the word public? Or maybe you’re uninformed and just wrong, however bit of an overtop post from you on a word.

Things are different between U.K. and US hence why M doesn’t have a clue about what monarchy are in this country. Harry certainly didn’t put her straight and let her know they are going down the pecking order with every passing year, as George is now who Harry used to be and two other children after that. Harry not important in family going forward.

Do you know the names of Princess Margaret’s children? They are who Archie would be in another two monarchs time. A long way down and Harry clearly didn’t explain no way would Archie be a prince at birth.

There is now also the desire to slim down and Prince Edwards children did not take option to use prince and princess as they know normal life ahead for them.

Public school is the correct terminology for Eton. Yes and the term 'public schoolboy' is in common usage

Australian has already been clarified. But that doesn’t matter. When the facts don’t suit the narrative, the facts are wrong. Wrong, I tell you, and stupid, and it’s our fault the facts are wrong!!
