Baby milk tub fell on floor..

So went downstairs about 20 mins ago to pop to the toilet came upstairs and seen my daughter needed a bottle. So went back down to make it.. however seen that our pesky cat must've knocked the tub off the side. Milk tub was on the floor with the scoop on the floor also. A tiny bit of milk had fell out but luckily there's only 1/4 of a tub left. I picked it
Up and washed the scoop with kettle boiling water. But now I'm not sure of making a bottle with powder that had fell on the floor.

Partner says it's ok as it's not like
I've scooped milk off the floor and then put it in a bottle and that the milk remained in the tin and the scoop was washed with soap and boiling water. What do you reckon? Am I over reacting?

I'd lift the tin up and clean the outside, clean the scoop as you have and then use it. It has been in the tin, not anywhere else

mynameiscalypso · 10/03/2021 20:57

How old is your baby? So long as she's not a newborn, I'd probably go ahead and use it (presuming you make it properly using boiling water etc)

Trumplosttheelection · 10/03/2021 20:57

Was the tin lid on? Cos if not I'd be worried the cat has tried eating some. Otherwise you're fine. You washed the scoop.

VodselForDinner · 10/03/2021 20:57

I assume any powder that made contact with the floor was discarded?

What do you think would be wrong with powder that remained inside the tin?

Wrenna · 10/03/2021 20:57

I’d use it as long as it was still in the tin :)

whiskersonkittenss · 10/03/2021 20:57

It'll be fine. Boiling water is added to the formula to kill germs anyway

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 20:59

She's 19 months, she has a bottle
A night of formula as she refuses cows milk. No the lid was off and the scoop was outside. I did shake the milk off the top and then scooped down to the bottom of the tin. NO a formula was used off the floor. That was swept straight up. Ah I'm just so worried about germs. My partner said that, germs would be killed by the hot water.

Yes I have to admit. The cat Is the biggest worry, Incase he tried to eat any of it. However I assume after pushing it to the ground surely he'd eat the powder off the floor not stick his head in the tub.

It will be totally fine. I would have used it without a second thought. I bet your DD has licked the floor/wheels of her pram/inanimate objects plenty of times (I also have a 19 month old). If there was anything dangerous on the floor, not many babies would make it through unscathed.

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 21:05

I'll be honest I suffer with anxiety so this isn't the first time I've overthought something. But recently I've become a germaphobe you could say. That bloody kitten! I assume the boiling water would've gotten rid of any germs. And that's the only tub of formula I have in the house. Shopping day isn't until tomorrow lol.

Especially since last week we had an invasion of slugs in our bathroom and kitchen by the washing machine. ( massive hole in the kitchen that the landlord is certainly in no rush to fix ) but the formula fell over the other side of the kitchen next to the cupboard. One night of not overthinking would be good.

Your a germophobe, but your happy to have a cat in the house on your kitchen worktops?

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 21:08

Not my house, currently staying at my moms house due to losing my job and my house! but thank you for your input. Certainly not happy about cats in general as I'm allergic to them, but unfortunately when you leave a cat downstairs and the kitchen door isn't shut properly things happen.

The milk is fine. If you have a scoop from a previous tin use it otherwise a through wash in hot soapy water will sort it. You could even bung it in a steriliser if it makes you feel better.

ChlamydiaSexPond · 10/03/2021 21:09

At 19 months my DC were eating dirt! You're fine!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 10/03/2021 21:10

At 19 months your baby doesn't need formula.

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 21:11

Thank you everyone for the helpful comments. I've wiped the top over, washed the scoop in soapy and also boiling kettle water. And also scooped to the bottom of the tub to get the milk out.

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 10/03/2021 21:11

Sorry OP but surely your 19mth old is at least crawling?

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 21:12

@LadyMonicaBaddingham

No you're absolutely correct she doesn't need it. However she will not take cows milk at all and will only drink a bottle of it a night. And advised by a HV/GP and also a paediatrician she has one bottle of formula. Which I've been told is absolutely fine to do so. Where as children her age will drink cows milk, she however will not. But still requires a bottle of formula of an evening.

At 19 months I think I would have still used it even if I’d seen the cat lick it! Ha ha. At about that age I caught her sharing licks of ice cream from her spoon with one of our cats. I did stop their little arrangement but I did let her keep eating from the same spoon!

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 21:13

@WishingHopingThinkingPraying

Oh yes, crawling/walking/running and never being quiet. But quite extraordinary she doesn't like being dirty, and will wipe her hands whenever she feels dirt on them - started at a very young age.

QueenArseClangers · 10/03/2021 21:14

Crikey, I thought you were talking about a newborn!
Formula isn’t sterile (hence having to make it with high temperature water) so as long as you do that it should be ok with a child her age.

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 21:15

Yes, it's been made with boiling water aswell as the scoop being washed in soap and boiling water. And it is now in the cupboard instead of on the side.

OP posts:
Babysharkdododont · 10/03/2021 21:19

By 19 months mine were playing on the park, eating stuff they found on the floor, teething on shoes, and probably would have licked the cats arse given half a chance.
She'll be grand.

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 21:22

Oh crikey I've got it pretty simple here! mega blocks and nursery rhymes and she's sound all day. Apart from when she wants a nap she's a different child, with a whole new character. However since being at my mums she's a lot quieter. Must be missing her space.
