Baby milk tub fell on floor..

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 20:55

So went downstairs about 20 mins ago to pop to the toilet came upstairs and seen my daughter needed a bottle. So went back down to make it.. however seen that our pesky cat must've knocked the tub off the side. Milk tub was on the floor with the scoop on the floor also. A tiny bit of milk had fell out but luckily there's only 1/4 of a tub left. I picked it
Up and washed the scoop with kettle boiling water. But now I'm not sure of making a bottle with powder that had fell on the floor.

Partner says it's ok as it's not like
I've scooped milk off the floor and then put it in a bottle and that the milk remained in the tin and the scoop was washed with soap and boiling water. What do you reckon? Am I over reacting?

@GreenSlide

Why are people giving advice on the child giving up formula? So she gets a bottle of formula at night, big deal. Let her crack on with it.
This. The only real reason to switch to cows milk is ease and cost. If she's happy with formula and you don't mind the cost, it's no big deal!
SleepingStandingUp · 10/03/2021 21:54

Surely her and the cat have licked each other plenty op

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 21:56

I'm allergic to the cat, so I stay as far away from it as possible, as I don't fancy the swollen eyeballs for days on end haha. The cat isn't around in the day, that was honesty, he stays upstairs in my moms bedroom sleeping. Then if a night will roam around the house, I've lost plenty of knickers due to that bloody kitten and his night time adventures grabbing them off the airer.

No I don't mind the cost, as it's only one bottle a night a tub of milk will easily last over 3 weeks.

If it's one a night why the hell are you going out at 5 am to buy a new box?

LIZS · 10/03/2021 21:58

But there is nothing wrong with the milk! Just use what is left in the tin and buy more tomorrow. The scoop could be steamed in the microwave if you are still worried.

Bid876 · 10/03/2021 21:59

19 months you will be fine. I’m sure the cats been at lots of things your DD has put in her mouth at that age x

If dd dosnt like cows milk have you tried other things? My DD has a dairy allergy so can’t drink cows milk but loves soya, use to like almond but not as much now.

Helenluvsrob · 10/03/2021 22:00

Baby is 19 months.
She’s likely licking the cat and chewing the buggy wheels 😂

As long as the milk is made up well and drunk straight away not left to brew more germs I’m sure they’ll be nothing her immune system hasn’t encountered before.

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 22:00

I have work at 8AM-6PM . so that's the only time I have to do my shopping, I always do grocery at 5/6am. I will defo be throwing that box out. Just to ease my mind. And as silly as it sounds, with the cat roaming around the downstairs might just keep the tub up in the room we're staying in and take it down when I do the one bottle a night.

And there comes a point where the benefits of using infant formula with added vitamins reduce in older toddlers. If she will eat dairy, or alternatives, during the day does she need milk at night at all? It may compromise her food intake.

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 22:02

With my new job I'm hoping it's not too long until we'll be back in our own place, but with me losing my job and my partner being made redundant it's just been an absolute nightmare. I'll be glad to buy a pack of knickers and not find half of them in the hallway.

harristile · 10/03/2021 22:02

Use it - your using boiling water anyway

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 22:04

@LIZS

No she doesn't NEED it, absolutely not, she drinks juice and water all day no problem, and will nap absolutely anywhere. Including falling asleep on a potty. But for some reason come an evening around 5/6 hours after falling asleep she will wake up asking for milk, she's very vocal and a clear speaker already. And no matter how much she is cuddled or calmed she will not settle back down until she has had that milk.

Jesus @Talkabtit101 that’s some overreaction.

My almost 18 month old shared cat treats with the cat tonight (no idea where she found them) and yesterday she licked her own shoes after she’d been in our chicken run.

A few germs are very beneficial to everyone. A bit of formula that might have been licked by a cat would be fine, but out of the tin is literally not an issue.

You can relax.

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 22:05

I might need to add she isn't drinking formula for extra nutrients because her diet doesn't provide enough for her. She drinks it purely out of comfort. The same as a child would drink cows milk. It is exactly the same apart from she will refuse cows milk. And instead has one bottle of formula an evening.

Didn't op say something about her DD rejecting the milk? That's with people are suggesting it. As I understand, she tried already. That's why.

Megan2018 · 10/03/2021 22:07

@Talkabtit101 my DD is still BF, there’s no issue with continuing to give FF if you want to. My DD doesn’t need breastmilk, but she likes it. You don’t need to justify it to people.

Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed · 10/03/2021 22:08

You will never stop worrying. It's a parent thing. You will all be good ☺️. Enjoy the sunshine tomorrow 😙

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 22:08

@bushhbb

I'm very grateful for the suggestions around cows milk, and preferably I would want her on cows milk purely for convenience, and this wouldn't happen. And I will be trying the mixed milk, as that sounds very promising.

If your child likes it. don't justify it. Enjoy ☺️.

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 22:10

@Megan2018

Thank you. I don't feel as though I'm justifying I understand children her age drink cows milk, breast milk and also formula milk. Some children have stopped drinking milk. But she's a happy girl and I won't stop the formula unless I have to, it's one bottle, not 5/6 a day. It keeps her happy and calm through the night.

She isn't a young baby is she ? Honestly how you sorted it out just fine, just make sure it's in a cupboard so it doesn't happen again.

Hallyup5 · 10/03/2021 22:23

My 23 month old eats anything she can get her hands on. Handfuls of mud from the garden is a favourite. She's never been sick from it.

Any milk that stayed in the tin will be fine.

Talkabtit101 · 10/03/2021 22:27

Thank you everyone for your help, however my mum has got off work early and has said she'll bring some of the pre made cartons home. Explained what happened and she said the cat is fond of eating powder, and actually has eaten her make up powder and also powdered milk. So she said herself don't use it.

Thank you to everyone for the milk comments too; I will definitely be trying the milk swap with your suggestions. Thank you again x

Mrsjayy · 10/03/2021 22:28

I don't know why people think it's ok to go on about her having formula plenty of babies her age have formula or follow on milk your baby isn't unusual.

Fieldsofstars · 10/03/2021 22:32

Baby formula isn’t sterile and can contain harmful bacteria, it’s absolutely fine to use it in this circumstance. You should be preparing the bottles correctly to prevent harmful illness.
