To think two fruit snacks a day will rot primary school teeth

Infant school insisting that children have 2 fruit snacks a day and it must be fruit. Can also be raw veg but unfortunately my children don't like raw veg without a dip. I might send it in with a dip.

You can send them RAISINS but not a piece of cheese. How can this be healthy for their teeth? Every time I tell my dentist he visibly shudders.

Do other primaries allow non fruit snacks?

Do your children not brush their teeth? Just send them in with a few mix of berries, two or more fruit and not so much sugar.

Atrixie · 10/03/2021 09:16

2 fruit snacks a day, shocking. Call the police

It's fine.

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2021 09:16

Can they not have an apple/orange?

B33Fr33 · 10/03/2021 09:17

What's in this dip?

NerrSnerr · 10/03/2021 09:18

With all the juice, sweets and chocolate that children eat I can't imagine the dentist visibly shudders mentioning two fruit snacks a day.

Choice4567 · 10/03/2021 09:18

How often are you telling your dentist?

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2021 09:19

I can see why the dentist might not like the raisin option. Sort of.

My two are 18/21 but the school provided two fruit snacks a day from a huge choice.

turnthebiglightoff · 10/03/2021 09:20

Oh my god who gives their children 2 fruit snack per day? This is basically child abuse. I'm discusted by this. Fumming.

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2021 09:20

@B33Fr33

What's in this dip?
Raw veg and a dip sounds messy and unnecessary.
BrumBoo · 10/03/2021 09:21

Probably has them on speed dial....
Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2021 09:22

Sounds like OP is at the dentist a lot. Must be all the fruit? Grin

BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl · 10/03/2021 09:22

I think dip would be messy in infant school at break. 2 fruit snacks sounds great!

When do they eat them though? Ours have break midmorning and then lunch at lunch time - so wouldn't one be with lunch, or both at break?

Our school provided morning snack - sometimes it was fruit sometimes it was vegetables. I thought they all did this still? Some government initiative. Is this in addition to this or has it stopped?

AlCalavicci · 10/03/2021 09:23

Send them in with a toffee apple and chocolate coated raisins

Mrsjayy · 10/03/2021 09:23

Send in fresh not dried fruit might stop your dentist hyperventilatingHmm

Deadringer · 10/03/2021 09:23

Fruit isn't the devil, it has loads of benefits for the body. It's not the school's fault your dc don't like raw veg. You and your shuddering dentist should lighten up.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 10/03/2021 09:23

Tooth decay takes a LONG time - years. My dentist told me that many starchy savoury snacks are worse (crisps especially) as they stick in crevices of teeth for longer.

If you are really worried, tell your children to have a drink of water after the snack, this will reduce the sugars and acid levels in their mouths.

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2021 09:23

OMG the dentist would shudder themselves to death over that surely?
RefuseTheLies · 10/03/2021 09:24

My dd lives on fruit. She's five. Her teeth are fine.

MissingLinker · 10/03/2021 09:24

Every time I tell my dentist he visibly shudders

Is this an "Oh God, children being given fruit!" shudder or an "Oh God, you're one of those parents, not this AGAIN..." sort of shudder.

Because this is a massive overreaction on your part. Of all the things that might rot your kid's teeth, satsumas are going to be pretty far down the list.

Mrsjayy · 10/03/2021 09:24

How's your dentist though? Shock
fruitbat2021 · 10/03/2021 09:25

They eat the second fruit snack right before they come out!

I am at the dentist every 6 months - as recommended for children?

I was thinking houmous for the dip as chickpeas are a vegetable.

If you try and send in yoghurt covered raisins (which I wouldn't) then you get a shirty letter.

Parents have been shouted at for sending in crackers before.

The free school fruit doesn't always make an appearance at our school. So we have to send two snacks.

You are joking?
Oh the worries of the western world =reality check needed asap@fruitbat2021

sqirrelfriends · 10/03/2021 09:26

Report to Ofsted.

Seriously though, is this a thing? Bit concerned as DS eats a huge amount of fruit.

Angelica789 · 10/03/2021 09:26

You can’t blame the school for the fact that your children don’t like veg. If you don’t want them to have the fruit send the veg and if they don’t eat it then great, their teeth have had an even better day.
