To feel immensely sorry for

MM's dad.

I mean the interview this morning. He said that H told him it was his own fault that he had a heart attack! WTF seriously. He missed his daughter's wedding due to a heart attack and Charles walked her down the aisle (although they seem to dislike C as well now). He stupidly released her letter since he couldn't get through to the couple and now not allowed to see his grandchild. I feel sad for him.

YABU - stupid to feel sorry for him
YANBU - to feel sorry for him

He's on the news this morning saying he doesn't believe that the royal family or the British people are racist ,how would he know? And America is very racist ,massive generalisations ,just to contradict his daughter ,why do they give the man air time ?

Ellpellwood · 09/03/2021 11:09

Does one silly mistake cancel a lifetime of raising someone?

One?! We're on about 7. Several GMB interviews. The letter. Staged photographs as advised by Samantha "Markle". Lying that he'd spoken to the press.

MuddleMoo · 09/03/2021 11:13

Click bait title

You don't sell someone's letters to the press and fan the flames as one silly mistake in isolation.

Plenty of us had much worse fathers than him but remained civil.

So what? That's your decision. Others don't have to do the same.

No, you can’t cancel the past. It might prevent you being in their future though.

Nospringchickendipper · 09/03/2021 11:16

I think the fact that he said he will continue to do interviews with the press until he can see Megan and Archie says a lot about him.
Controlling and abusive.

I am specifically stating that his first mistake led to him being excluded from his daughter's life. The sale of the letters came long after he was excluded for quite a minor thing.

Most counsellots/therapists reccomend very limited civil contact so you don't feel bad or guilty when the parent dies, unless the behaviour was totally reprehensible/criminal. That can be as little as exchanging birthday and Christmas cards. It's quite standard advice.

gottakeeponmovin · 09/03/2021 11:18

There's always two sides to every story. She is definitely not as innocent as she makes out but he has acted badly

Moneypenny007 · 09/03/2021 11:19

Because every useless dad has an automatic right to be involved in their daughters wedding!!!

He had said long before the heart attack that he wasn't going to give her away.
He has sold her out plenty. She might not be blameless but he was her dad and threw her under the bus.

What's he got to lose? Why should he hang around in silence being controlled by someone else's agenda, just in case they relent?

Harry criticised the Queen for being "too busy" to see him, but Megan and Harry did exactly the same to Megan's father before the wedding.

Indeed. Everyone that encounters MM is bad/cruel/awful and she is entirely blameless .... Hmm Grin

Some people go through life just having the worst of luck

Seems H and M have been thrown under the bus (according to some apologists) by her father, her sister, the RF, the institution, the media (well the ones that don't agree with her), his father, his brother, the list is endless

@Sparrowtree

Is that you Samantha? He's an utterly spineless cunt who traumatised his own daughter then happily profited off it by posing for pap photos along side selling her letter.
Brilliant post.

Jesus OP. You're embarrassing yourself. You've posted this on at least one other thread this morning as well. Stop it now. You're looking unutterably stupid.

Cloudyrainsham · 09/03/2021 11:26

No I don’t feel sorry for him. He lied to his daughter and released a personal letter to the press. He wonders why she doesn’t speak to him 🙄. The first thing I get, he’s apologised - stupid move. Releasing the letter is unforgivable. Who does that to their own child!

Saz12 · 09/03/2021 11:29

No one comes out of it well. But Thomas Markle is a shit.

MM should have insisted Harry met TM before they married, Harry should have done so, but now Thomas Markle has behaved just so badly over the letters etc. It’s like MM sees her relationships as strictly conditional (on her getting her own way), Harry is just an outside observer who is separate from the rest of the world, and TM is in it for the money (and maybe some public face), not for his own child.

I shouldn’t even KNOW if he met son-in-law before they married, it’s none of my business whatsoever.

BrumBoo · 09/03/2021 11:29

@GreenlandTheMovie

You have zero idea if that was the first or one if a million shitty behaviours against her from her father. That's the issue when people's lives are played out through the media, you only know what you're told and that's a snapshot to be taken in your own context (as too many do when it comes to MM).

No one owes a parent a relationship. If she feels that 1 or several incidents of harmful and hurtful behaviour means no contact, absolutely no one has the right to question that. He (and his other daughter) continues do these embarrassing interviews, if my daughter was pissed off with me for running to the media about being her dad, thinking he has the right to call paps and Pierce Morgan because he's her dad, damn right I'd still not talk to him. She was already Hollywood Famous before meeting Harry, it's only her dad's side of the family I've ever actually noticed taking huge media advantage of her marrying a royal.

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 09/03/2021 11:32

Yabu. If he could have sold his daughter off to the highest bidder he would have........ As for the health side well if he lost some weight he'd be doing himself a massive favour. He isn't the only person in the world with heart problems caused by diet and lifestyle. He's choosing to not act on the stuff he can control.

MyLittleOrangutan · 09/03/2021 11:32

He sold a private letter his daughter sent him for attention.
He faked photoshoots for attention.
He treated his daughter like shit.
If he was anyone else's dad you wouldn't feel sorry for him. If he treated you or your daughter like that you wouldn't feel sorry for him.

DarceyDashwood · 09/03/2021 11:35

If he genuinely wanted to make amends and repair his relationship with his daughter he certainly wouldn’t be giving an interview to Piers Morgan!!!

I am not particularly pro-Sussexes but come on - he can’t be genuine if he is speaking to Piers!

MrsBotibolsCruise · 09/03/2021 11:36

No I don’t feel sorry for him at all. He’s the architect of his own disaster. Played with fire and got burned - his own bloody fault. Having a heart attack does not make him a good person nor a victim.

Thedogscollar · 09/03/2021 11:36

YABU. There will be a book next no doubt ghost written by Piers bloody Morgan.

KaptainKaveman · 09/03/2021 11:39

"He stupidly released her letter since he couldn't get through to the couple"....

Seriously, how unintelligent although I want to say thick was Mr Markle in thinking anyone could possibly swallow that line?

OP you are a kind hearted soul in giving him the benefit of the doubt but seriously, Judas and Brutus have nothing on Meghan's dear old dad. Hmm.
