To be angry at M&S!!!

I am or have been an M&S super fan. I shop a lot from there, always excited when their sales come on. Most of my stuff is M&S. I have been trying to buy some goodies in the sale but boy oh boy, every time I get to check out, everything I add is sold out even if it shows on their website that the items I have added are in stock.

Anyone having the same problem? How has any of the other M&S fans got around this issue? Hope there are some M&S fans like me I here. I feel stupid for being a very 🤣🤣

Stock levels could easily be added when under a certain level. Hotels do this, Half Man Half Biscuit do this, so why not M+S.

(I have an image of the OP being 'disgusted' in Tunbridge Wells)

debbrianna · 08/03/2021 18:11

I wondered why my shopping was messing about. Some came through royal mail and others hermes.. Two of them are no were near ready a week later. This is poor service.

MrsR87 · 08/03/2021 18:12

@Ilovemaisie

Then you buy clothes from the retailers that are actually open - supermarkets. Plenty of clothes there. (Well except for that weird time when some branches closed off the sections)
That’s great of your local supermarket stocks maternity clothes. Mine doesn’t. I was also avoiding shops wherever possible so as to avoid catching the virus when pregnant!
NoMackerelInSwindon · 08/03/2021 18:15

I used to be an M&S fan, but that stopped about 15 years ago when they started playing Santana's Samba Pa Ti to advertise cream rolling down some kind of fruit pudding.

It was like force-feeding one of the world's best musicians to some of the world's most unnatural and adulterated foods. Horrific.

Ilovemaisie · 08/03/2021 18:17

MrsR87 you can order online from supermarkets. Also all the 'catalogue' stores (Littlewoods, Very etc) are still trading.
M+S is one retailer out of many.

Wannabangbang · 08/03/2021 18:20

Yep this happened to me, ordered 8 items ended up with just 4 being delivered as other 4 out of stock. They had to refund me so annoying, never known an online store like it.
Don't take my money if its not in stock!!

Ilovemaisie · 08/03/2021 18:21

MrsR87 you probably could have got a few maternity clothes from your colleagues.

MrsR87 · 08/03/2021 18:25

I’m not disputing that. I’m just pointing out that for some people, clothes are essential!
StanfordPines · 08/03/2021 18:26

I had this a while ago.
I didn't want much a couple of bras, a pack of knickers and some sports clothes.
Every time I'd get to the check out it would tell me something was out of stock. Yet I'd go back to look for a replacement and there it would be, looking for all the world like it was in stock.

EachBleachBlairTrump · 08/03/2021 18:29

I tried to order DS some clothes after a recent growth spurt, got an email the next day to day every item was out of stock, yet they were all still showing as in stock in the website several days after my order was cancelled

Thomasina79 · 08/03/2021 18:30

I’ve noticed this, it is frustrating. I am also fed up with a lot of material nowadays and not just marks. Crepe, ugh! Lending what the hell is that. Horrible. Whatever happened to cotton. I still have some lovely simple summer cotton dresses which get pulled out of the cupboard when the sun shines. I hate off the shoulder tops, man made fibres, dresses with tiers, too short skirts (inappropriate for a person my age) and I want sleeves. Too many sleeveless garments. Rant!

Eatingsoupwithafork · 08/03/2021 18:35

Yes I tried to buy from the sales about 6 weeks ago it would let me add to basket, say it’s in stock and then when I went to buy nothing was in stock. Thought I did something wrong so went through whole process again and it did the same. Gave up after that, they’ve clearly got no respect for their customers time.

Ilovemaisie · 08/03/2021 18:37

MrsR87 yes of course clothes are essential... just not specifically M+S ones !!

whatsthestory123 · 08/03/2021 18:41

i cant even get the page to load most of the time,it can take 5-10 mins to get a picture and if you click on then takes ages to load again

i cant even choose something let alone get to checkout

SpeakingFranglais · 08/03/2021 18:49

Haven’t RTFT so apologies if someone else said this but I have noticed this too, I wonder if too many people have added things to their basket and then never checked out and now it’s first come first served. So if someone pips you to the payment post during busy times, they get the item.

Babymamamama · 08/03/2021 18:53

I was trying to buy some bits online just yesterday. Their website is hopeless if I put in my size on the website it shows me lots of items which actually are unavailable in my size. Sometimes I would get as far as putting some items in my basket but then when I tried to check out said items were out of stock. What is going on? Sorry haven’t read the whole thread just wanted to rant a bit.

Babymamamama · 08/03/2021 18:54

Can someone tweet them .....they are very dangerously close to alienating so many customers.

kunterbunting · 08/03/2021 18:58
@Rainbowunicorn, I have actually added an item in the basket and straightaway gone the checkout several times and still same thing, sold out.
Same here, OP, about 10 mins ago. 😡

seven201 · 08/03/2021 19:06

Happened to me yesterday. Got to the £50 for free delivery then something out of stock. Eventually found something else but then something else was out of stock (despite saying it had 6). Took bloody forever to go through the
Checkout.

Also bought a new fitted sheet and it split when I tried to put it on. I need to get round to trying to get a refund!

In the past a negative review I wrote was rejected! I hope that doesn't happen again.

CakeIsMyFavouriteAndBest · 08/03/2021 19:10

I had this several times. Tried to buy a dress for my daughter last month and although it showed in stock, went out everytime I went to my basket. Last night teen daughter needed a new sports bra, tried to order several and although sorted by size they were either out of stock if we tried to choose them or if they were in stock they went out of stock as soon as I went to pay. Went to John Lewis, ordered easily and will be delivered to Waitrose tomorrow. Given up with M&S now.

bloodywhitecat · 08/03/2021 19:32

@Ilovemaisie

There is a pandemic on. Retailers are struggling to get stock as it pretty much all comes from abroad. Even Percy Pigs are made in Germany. There is probably stock stuck in store branches that are closed and can't be easily accessed. None of the clothes or gifts are essentials really. They are nice to have but at this particular moment in time you don't really need any of it.
I have a growing baby, last time I checked it was unacceptable to cart him around naked (except for his nappy).
Chicchicchicchiclana · 08/03/2021 19:38

I have always had this issue with M&S which is why I avoid them now.

Also, retailers, if you have an item in several colours just show us 1 thumbnail and then the different colours when you click on it. Saves scrolling through pages of repetitive stuff.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 08/03/2021 20:09

@rainbowunicorn

If it is a sale then I would expect that things will sell out very quickly and that there will be limited stock. It comes down to you just not being fast enough at putting in your order. The company generally won't reserve the things in your basket as you go, they will only be yours when checkout is complete. A few companies will allow you say 10 - 15 mins from adding to the basket to check out where it is yours as long as checkout is complete in the time frame. I don't think it is anything to be angry about.
That isn't the case here though. I had this a few weeks ago on things I wanted in the sale. It would say one item left , but whenever you go to check out it's out of stock, though it would let you add it again. I do shop regularly with M and S, but wouldn't describe myself as a super-fan like the OP does, and have found their sales listings really annoying. They will have items in the sale listing, that were only on sale in one colour, which is out of stock, but isn't removed from the listing, or if you search the sale by size it brings up items that are only available in that size at full price.
Ilovemaisie · 08/03/2021 20:24

bloodywhitecat there are plenty of other retailers you can get baby clothes from.
I have now said on this thread that I do agree that clothes are essential - just not specifically M+S clothes. They aren't especially special anyway.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 08/03/2021 20:24

@Ilovemaisie

MrsR87 yes of course clothes are essential... just not specifically M+S ones !!
But M and S purport to be offering clothes to buy, so they should make it possible for people to actually buy them. Obviously there are other places to buy, but the previous poster wanted to buy them from there and then found it impossible to do so. I'm not sure why you then went on to suggest buying second-hand or borrowing from colleagues?
