To be angry at M&S!!!

I am or have been an M&S super fan. I shop a lot from there, always excited when their sales come on. Most of my stuff is M&S. I have been trying to buy some goodies in the sale but boy oh boy, every time I get to check out, everything I add is sold out even if it shows on their website that the items I have added are in stock.

Anyone having the same problem? How has any of the other M&S fans got around this issue? Hope there are some M&S fans like me I here. I feel stupid for being a very 🤣🤣

I had this too! So frustrating!

FourEyesGood · 08/03/2021 16:13

I had this with school trousers recently. They showed as ‘low stock’ but seconds later, when I tried to check out, they were unavailable. It was very annoying.

MsTSwift · 08/03/2021 16:17

I’ve switched to Zara. Better clothes and they arrive in cardboard zero plastic unlike bloody m&s where every item is swathed in plastic bags 🙄. I even emailed about this and got meaningless word salad back.

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 08/03/2021 16:18

@rainbowunicorn

If it is a sale then I would expect that things will sell out very quickly and that there will be limited stock. It comes down to you just not being fast enough at putting in your order. The company generally won't reserve the things in your basket as you go, they will only be yours when checkout is complete. A few companies will allow you say 10 - 15 mins from adding to the basket to check out where it is yours as long as checkout is complete in the time frame. I don't think it is anything to be angry about.
This isn’t the case though, I’ve tried to buy kids clothing a few times from M&S and it will say the item is in stock and let you add it to your bag, but once you check out it says out of stock. If you go back to the item’s listing it again says the item is in stock and allows you to add to basket, so it is a bit annoying that you never actually know if the item is in stock until you go to pay for it. I don’t lose sleep over it though promise Grin

@1Morewineplease

Yep, happened to me whilst trying to purchase a jacket for my mum.
Ditto. Bet it was the same jacket.Grin It showed the colour I wanted as being in stock. Got all the way to payment and it said Out of Stock. I gave up. No wonder they're in the shit if this is how they do business.
Foxyloxy1plus1 · 08/03/2021 16:27

If there’s a glitch in the system just now, that’s fair enough, but M&S website is not terribly user friendly. They advertise sale items in different colours, then when you choose a different colour, it isn’t in the sale. They often have only very small or very large sizes left too.

Yes this always happens. But I see you with M&S and raise you with the next clearance site. If M&S takes you to the edge, Next will have you banging your head against a wall.

Brainwave89 · 08/03/2021 16:47

IMO M+S has been behind the curve in shopping online for years. It frequently has things showing as for sale which it does not have, or only has in very limited sizes. I always use M+S for underwear (and I love M+S food), but more generally for clothes I cannot remember the last thing I purchased there, and I have seen things I like in the sale- just never in my size, and I am a 10 before anyone asks...

Bug8 · 08/03/2021 16:47

@Rainbowunicorn, I have actually added an item in the basket and straightaway gone the checkout several times and still same thing, sold out.

Piglet92 · 08/03/2021 16:48

I had the same problem buying their underwear online, it's in stock when you add it to your basket but 5 mins later when you get to checkout its sold out 😔 wish you could reserve it while it's in your basket for 30 minutes or so.

Piglet92 · 08/03/2021 16:49

But worth persevering, I got hypercurve jeans for £13 a couple of weeks ago.
Oly4 · 08/03/2021 16:51

I’ve had this and it is annoying. I’m still an M&S superman though, you can get some brilliant stuff for the price

Oly4 · 08/03/2021 16:53

Superfan not superman Grin

Tal45 · 08/03/2021 16:58

I had this with a pair of school shoes, bought them elsewhere instead.

SunshineCake · 08/03/2021 16:59

I had this last month. Said one left. Put in basket. Went to pay, sold out. Went through this four times before giving up.

Bug8 · 08/03/2021 16:59

@ Pinkdelight3, am actually that much in love with M&S and of course there are items I love from there a. Sounds silly.....I know but yep, not a joke 😊

StoneofDestiny · 08/03/2021 16:59

Yes - a PITA, as is the fact things are arriving with no paperwork whatsoever and you have to phone them to raise the issue and Wade through a multitude or recorded messages that are irrelevant to your issue.
M&S - not everybody has a printer!

Viviennemary · 08/03/2021 17:00

I'm almost through with them too. Everything always sold out in a lot of sizes. Their packing is atrocious. Things arriving creased. I wouldn't be surprised if they're the next to go under.

Estara · 08/03/2021 17:00

I was saying this just last week! I sent a link to my brother for an item I want for my birthday. He went to order it but it was out of stock. I checked later that night and it was available. I also had this problem last year. I think people put the item in their basket but don't check out, so it cloggs up the inventory. I find if you go on late evening or early morning when it's emptied everyone's baskets you can then get what you want.

StoneofDestiny · 08/03/2021 17:00

Yes - NEXT clearance, a super PITA

Hadjab · 08/03/2021 17:02

The M&S system does a stock check from not just the distribution centres, but also stores, but it takes a bit for it to update, which is why it may show items as being in stock, but they gone by the time you go to check out, particularly so when there are less than 5 items, more so when more than one person is trying to purchase the same item.

littlefireseverywhere · 08/03/2021 17:05

I've had this too, so infuriating. But I've just bought stuff from white stuff sale and they manage to let you know there's one in stock or they've now sold out immediately.

Notavegan · 08/03/2021 17:07

Yep, I've given up with it. Useless

Sparklfairy · 08/03/2021 17:11

Superdrugs site is like this. I'll be merrily adding loads of stuff to my basket but it's not till I go to check out that they tell me half the stuff is out of stock Angry

Every time they have a sale the site has a meltdown.
