To be angry at M&S!!!

I am or have been an M&S super fan. I shop a lot from there, always excited when their sales come on. Most of my stuff is M&S. I have been trying to buy some goodies in the sale but boy oh boy, every time I get to check out, everything I add is sold out even if it shows on their website that the items I have added are in stock.

Anyone having the same problem? How has any of the other M&S fans got around this issue? Hope there are some M&S fans like me I here. I feel stupid for being a very 🤣🤣

Kept happening to me yesterday. Went on late last night and got it checked out.

APurpleSquirrel · 08/03/2021 17:15

I had this before Christmas. Tried multiple times to purchase certain items that said they were in stock only to not be in stock at purchase.

Em8725 · 08/03/2021 17:18

Yes me too. Driving me bananas. I ended up getting 2 items in the 3 for 2 and randomly clicking something else each time until I found something to complete the offer that it would allow me to buy!

Bug8 · 08/03/2021 17:19

It looks like this issue of out of stock items started with convid. I never used to have such issues with any site really.

Had the same, resigned from browsing their website, what’s the point 🤷‍♀️
They accepted my order in December only to email me “sorry out of stock” the following day.

MrsR87 · 08/03/2021 17:25

I’ve ordered things from M and S three times so far this year and each time thought I’d add a couple of things from the sale. Every time I have, they’ve show as being in my basket and been a part of the total cost, then on the next page they are out of stock. So I remove, go back and think I’ll see if they have anything similar and the items that aren’t in stock are still showing as in stock. Very frustrating!

TillyTopper · 08/03/2021 17:25

Yes, I've also recently experienced this. I assumed that it was possibly that they had got their stock ordering wrong due to unpredictable consumer behaviour over the last year.

BetsyJameson · 08/03/2021 17:29

I ordered some clothes, including some school shirts and a belt, it said they were all in stock. The next day I received an email saying these items were now out of stock. I would have ordered different Items if it had said they were out of stock when I was ordering , but now I have to pay postage again to order these 2 items.

brokengate · 08/03/2021 17:29

They have zero stock control policies.

Last year I bought various bits in the sale. Added to basket, checked out and PAID. I live about an hour from the nearest store, but was heading that way the following week so picked click and collect for that Monday. Got there, every single bloody thing was out of stock, the things I had bought and paid for.

I was furious and the girl explained that the people who chose delivery but ordered after me would have had their orders fulfilled first, nobody would have picked or allocated mine until the Sunday, so all gone.

The system is just ridiculous. After a huge battle I got my money back and a ten pound voucher.

LIZS · 08/03/2021 17:32

All the items in facebook ads are out of stock when you click through.

TupilaLilium · 08/03/2021 17:34

I am super mad at M and S too. The last two times I shopped in the food hall they made me use a self service till and I had too much to balance.

The last time I had a peri-menopausal strop and stormed out with my groceries all over the floor after they fell off the scale.

Now I am too mortified to return, and they really do have best blueberries and how will we celebrate good school reports without a Colin?

Missing the point. I know, but I just wanted to share my rage at M&S.

PuppyMonkey · 08/03/2021 17:39

Well now I need to know what a Colin is.

LIZS · 08/03/2021 17:42

Colin the Caterpillar cake!

BiarritzCrackers · 08/03/2021 17:43

M&S website is so annoying - it lets you buy stuff, and then you get an email saying that one of the items is unavailable. It's particularly irritating when it's the main item you're buying; if I'm getting a hoodie or whatever for DS, and then just chuck in some socks or something small for myself, only to then be told I'll just be getting the socks, which I could have bought anywhere. Preferably, whichever shop will actually let me buy clothes for DS.

ReverendRicketyCricket · 08/03/2021 17:50

Yes! Damn it yes! I have an e mail alert set up for when a particular thing comes back into stock. Go to website and it's in the basket within two minutes. SOLD OUT!
Three times this has happened in the last ten days or so.

PuppyMonkey · 08/03/2021 17:50

@LIZS thank you!

MrMucker · 08/03/2021 17:52

I'd love to be financially comfortable enough to feel actual anger at M&S

Avaganda · 08/03/2021 17:53

It's so frustrating! I wanted to get some new things for the DC so filtered by their size and 200 items came up but they're all out of stock once I want to add to basket. Why are they even on the site anymore?!

Ilovemaisie · 08/03/2021 17:54

There is a pandemic on. Retailers are struggling to get stock as it pretty much all comes from abroad. Even Percy Pigs are made in Germany. There is probably stock stuck in store branches that are closed and can't be easily accessed.
None of the clothes or gifts are essentials really. They are nice to have but at this particular moment in time you don't really need any of it.

Not necessarily true! I found out I was pregnant on the first day of lockdown. I needed lots of new clothes for myself as things very quickly stopped fitting! I was in work as a teacher (many of us were in school for much of the first lockdown) and so needed smart stuff that fitted. It was a right nightmare!
Jjou · 08/03/2021 17:59

Kids don’t stop growing just cos there’s a pandemic! They still need clothing and whatnot. Jeez.

Ilovemaisie · 08/03/2021 18:06

Then you buy clothes from the retailers that are actually open - supermarkets. Plenty of clothes there.
(Well except for that weird time when some branches closed off the sections)

NoseOfJericho · 08/03/2021 18:07

It was like this for me some years ago. I stopped buying from them in the end, well had to really because nothing was ever in stock and they would take the order and then 2 weeks later tell you it was out of stock.

Ilovemaisie · 08/03/2021 18:07

Or other clothing retailers that are trading online.
Or secondhand through local Facebook groups.
Or secondhand from family and friends.

Lastfreakinglegs · 08/03/2021 18:09

I have a moan to add. I went to a food hall to try and return a click and collect pair of leggings that were too big. The woman at customer service made my life hell and was very angry and condescending to the point that I had to tell my kids not to worry as they looked worried. I will be limiting my shopping there from now on. Their social media also recently made a bug thing about a gift they made as a one off to a single dad and his kids. Like they were charity benificents ffs.
