NC'd as have discussed symptoms irl.

Last Tuesday night I was up most of the night with awful stomach cramps and diarrhoea, with some sickness. Not sure what caused this, no one else in the house has been ill before or since.
By late Wednesday when I went to the toilet I was passing bloody mucous only. Went to Dr on Thursday and she thinks infection has inflamed lower bowel. No piles or fissures.

Blood test showed high wbc but Dr expected that due to infection. Waiting for results of stool sample (hopefully today).

I wfh. It's a customer contact centre for health care workers so full on on the phones with some admin....in the last 5 days I have had my two days off and taken 3 days sick.

I haven't eaten anything substantial since Tuesday. Drinking plenty and not dehydrated and nibbling on dry toast and crackers when I can but this always leads to cramping and nausea. I am still really tired. I am on a late shift today so need to make a decision about work. I still get bouts of cramping and diarrhoea (minimal bleeding now thank goodness!) and I can be in the bathroom up to 30 minutes waiting for the cramping and diarrhoea to stop.

I could, in theory, sit and work. Its not strenuous but is full on. But if I need the bathroom that's going to be some time away from my desk. I am on Monday to Friday this week....don't know when this is going to stop....and don't know what to do for the best! I didn't expect things to go on this long.

I don't like being ill. I woke up this morning thinking ok I can do this....but now I've been up a couple of hours I'm now slumped on the sofa again having been back in the bathroom.

Should I just take another day? I do tend to keep pushing myself and maybe this is my body saying slow down for a bit.

Allow yourself to be ill! It sounds awful.

Bluekangaroo123 · 08/03/2021 09:37

Definitely take another day off to recover. Your health is more important. I’ve actually had similar symptoms although mine have been going on for months now. Currently being investigated for coealic/ irritable bowel disorder. I hope your symptoms settle down!

DS had this for months on and off. Finally got him to go who said nil by mouth for 24 hours just drink water, if it's a bug it will die. So forego the crackers, toast, drink water and see if that helps. It's horrid but this cure can helo your guts to recover

Unsureaboutwork · 08/03/2021 10:25

Hi all thank you for the advise.

Yeah I feel pretty rubbish so have called in sick. Feel happier having done it now lying on the sofa again feeling sorry for myself Grin

That's interesting...the gp did suggest this might need further investigating. Hope you get your answers soon!

Just to say I too have been advised nil by mouth - apparently it’s what animals do as they naturally know how to cure themselves!
Also you get all the benefits of intermittent fasting / Autophagy thrown in!

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Bluekangaroo123 · 08/03/2021 11:46

Thank you OP, I hope your symptoms clear up soon. I know how debilitating it can be.

I have tummy troubles so a colonoscopy was booked had to fast and take moviprep so clean as a whistle. Bugger me my tum then settled for months. Have had cameras up and down, ultrasound, two weeks ago CT scan. This all started with threatened sepsis and horrendous antibiotics, on top of post gallbladder op. I am taking probiotics from Holland and Barrett lacto free milk, gluten free stuff, avoiding 🍅 onions it's more predictable now
