I mean if you move into a two bed house with one child DON'T go on to have 4 more children. Ffs I mean of course the house has a lack of storage and damp...they PURPOSELY overcrowded it and now they are complaining. I live in a two bed property and I wouldn't bloody dream of trying to fit in 4 more children!It's ridiculous...I wish people would start being bloody accountable for their actions (or lack of). Stories like this really rub me up the wrong way. And I'm not saying you have to be rich to have kids...you don't but don't go complaining to the council and the newspaper when you overbreed and don't fit in your house, it's not their fault!!

This thread won’t last long. But here goes, yes of course it’s responsible and there so no amount of whataboutery that justifies such irresponsible behaviour but of course people will be along with many reasons which absolves the parents of responsibility.

The only thing I can think is she'd been led to believe it wouldn't be long before the family would be moved somewhere with more space. I don't get why you'd willingly make life more difficult for yourself.

I agree. And it seems unfair that other people stop having children because they can't afford more, even if they would like to, while people like this just keep going with no care for the consequences.

Waiting for the person to call OP goady and list all the reasons why she is a victim and not the architect of her own circumstances. But, but, but whatabout.....

It sounds like there's a leak, not just damp due to overcrowding, and it should have been sorted without the tenants having to complain to the media. But nobody should have more than 2 kids, even if they have the space and even if they can afford them. There are enough people in the world already.

The housing conditions are appalling though and not suitable for a family.full stop. In this case the amount of people is slightly irrelevant - it wouldn't make it ok if it was a couple with 1 baby living in a rat infested house?
The fact that there are lots of children makes it a juicier story for the sun.

@miserablecat I ageee however shoving 3 children and all of their accessories in one room will only exacerbate the situation to be honest!! 3 beds pushed up against a wall that is damp is hardly going to help the matter.

I have 2 children- yes wanted 1 more but weighed up finances first
We and NDN had rats in our gardens over the first lockdown and sorted out the problem ourselves (took a while as they were hardy so and sos but we got rid of them!)
I just don't understand why you would have more children if you are unhappy with the living arrangements/ standard / cost of living you already have?

It has never been cheaper or easier to control reproduction and I am sick of people not only looking for a hand out but expecting it but expecting others to fall over themselves to give them what they believe they are entitled to.

I agree, no one deserves to live in a house in such a state as that.

Nicely dances around the elephant in the room, and deflects the issue from how they got in this situation in the first place. It’s the sun’s fault, it’s the govt’s fault, no it’s the next door neighbour’s cat’s fault. But not the parents, never the parents.

Why do people get so angry?

I mean if people want to overcrowd their homes and make their lives more awkward for whatever reason, why does it make you so angry that you'd come online to rant about it?

I get people having lack of sympathy, but I don't understand the anger.

Aren't their more important things in life to spend your energy on?

I agree with you op.

Totally agree OP. The levels of entitlement within our society are staggering. Some people genuinely take no responsibility for their own lives and leave it all to the state to sort out. It breeds poverty and dependence as people will literally throw themselves down and plead 'not my fault!'.

It’s not as though someone knocked on the door, shoved the kids in then ran off laughing. They chose to have those children knowing their living conditions, knowing their financial situation and clearly it was a mistake. Feel sorry for the kids though

I think that we can’t expect everyone to have the same level of intelligence (by that I recognise common sense and an ability to be selfless - making a decision that isn’t what you want but knowing it’s the right thing to do - ie. stop having dc even though you love those cute little babies). You can’t judge people by your own level of intelligence and ambitions in life and there are people for whom council housing is all they and their families know. I don’t actually think it’s laziness; I think it’s poor upbringing and fear of a different way of life/feeling undeserving of a better way of life. It’s not a life I would choose but then that wasn’t the upbringing I had. I find the expectations people in council housing have where they (not all but some) seem to think the council is like their parents and should sort everything for them frustrating but then I feel sympathy that they don’t have the confidence to do this stuff and make good choices. They are pretty vulnerable.
