To think that chocolate tastes better when it's shaped like an egg

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 06/03/2021 21:17

Is it just me who thinks this?

Currently obsessed with mini eggs - the Smarties ones, Milky Bar ones, the regular Mini Eggs.

Why does chocolate seem to taste better when it is shaped like an egg!? Or am I just a weirdo!?

Easter egg chocolate is elite Grin

tttigress · 06/03/2021 23:51

It's weird, not sure it's tastes better, but it tastes different!

Me too op and they've got to be kept in the fridge ...
The colder the better 😋

peak2021 · 07/03/2021 07:04

Your taste, nothing wrong with it. Some people drink tea, others coffee. Not mine though.

ClarkeGriffin · 07/03/2021 08:02

Thanks to this thread, I ate one of the Easter eggs I got in my shopping on friday last night. I'm not even sorry about it, it was delicious.Grin

Hesma · 07/03/2021 08:08

It’s because the chocolate is thinner in my opinion... milky bars and animal bars are the same, super delish!

newname2021 · 07/03/2021 08:24

@SellFridges

So, the thinner the chocolate, the higher quality it needs to be. So Easter Eggs are all made from high quality recipe chocolate. If you like Cadbury, pretty much the best you can get is a packet of Buttons.
That's really interesting! I used to love all Cadbury and could eat masses of Dairy Milk but since the recipe changed I don't like it and rarely bother with it.

The one exception for me is Buttons, which I still enjoy but had no idea why until now!

sansucre · 07/03/2021 08:59

Absolutely agree with this! I love the thinner chocolate and often buy Cadbury 'little bars', formerly wildlife bars. The chocolate tastes so much better, particularly if eaten straight from the freezer.

Tesco currently have Cadbury chocolate buttons eggs for £1, so have a stash of those in the freezer.

Mini eggs have reverted to a generic chocolate filling and are no longer filled with Dairy Milk so I avoid those like the plague, ditto the supposed Dairy Milk packs of small eggs. Once, the eggs where all Dairy Milk but now, it's a tiny thin shell of Dairy Milk filled with a generic chocolate goo.

Last year, after the great toilet roll shopping rush, Easter eggs were left languishing on the shelves after Easter. We reduced them A LOT and with discount I got about 10 Easter eggs for about £7. Happy days.

They were for my family to be fair, not all for me.

I'm now eating the children's Easter eggs for breakfast. Thanks entirely to your post OP! Blush

lucel · 07/03/2021 09:37

I think it's because Easter eggs are tempered chocolate

Entirely separate question, but has anyone seen the After Eight Easter eggs this year?

ElderMillennial · 07/03/2021 11:05

I like Easter egg chocolate but I think that's the thinness of it

LApprentiSorcier · 07/03/2021 11:06

Experts say it's because thinner chocolate releases its flavour better in your mouth.

FunnyWonder · 07/03/2021 11:29

YANBU.

I might just have bought a shed load of 75p eggs from Tesco yesterday for this very reason. They are in the boot of my car while I decide if anyone else in the house should know about themGrinGrin

WaltzForDebbie · 07/03/2021 11:38

No way! I much prefer a chocolate bar. Breaking an egg into pieces and eating it out of a bowl.... I don't get it. Or trying to eat it in one go a having in melt all over your hands. Then having lots of little bowls around the house for weeks and trying to remember whose is whose. Confused

Cocolapew · 07/03/2021 11:39

I love the 'seam' in Easter eggs where it's that little bit thicker 🐣

Caramelwhispers · 07/03/2021 12:01

Cadbury's Dark Milk is the only Cadbury's chocolate I eat now as it doesn't have any palm oil in it. It has more cocoa solids & tastes like Cadbury's chocolate used to do in the 80's. I'll keep an eye out for dark milk eggs & buy by the bucket load.

Don't forget to buy your Easter eggs early this year as we had drama getting them round here anyway during 1st lockdown.

rooarsome · 07/03/2021 12:12

I'm one of the weird ones- I can't stand Easter eggs! I'd much rather a box of chocolates

Cormoransjacket · 07/03/2021 12:12

I am so with you on this OP. I am so excited about Easter eggs already. Luckily DS1 agrees with me. We have already done huge amounts of online research in preparation for the big chocolate egg shop later this month. We will mask up and go to the supermarket at 6 am.

Caramelwhispers · 07/03/2021 12:55

@Cormoransjacket judging by the amount of drooling over chocolate on this thread, leaving it till the end of the month will be too late! I doubt there'll be anything left, I'm imagining mnetters in shops now stuffing their trollies!

Cormoransjacket · 07/03/2021 19:15

Caramelwhispers, I think you are right. I will go this week. DH is ECV, so I wanted to leave it as long as possible for his vaccine to work, and for as many people as possible to get vaccinated. I have not set foot in a supermarket since my Christmas early morning chocolate shop last November.

Dozer · 07/03/2021 19:16

At weight watchers they said easter eggs have much higher sugar.
