To be fed up of vaccination envy

TheLoneRager · 06/03/2021 11:53

I'm so fed up of people complaining about who is getting a vaccination before them. Often they cite someone who has been deemed vulnerable but in the eyes of the complainer whatever the medical condition it is isn't very serious in their opinion (obviously also in total ignorance of any other health issues the person may have).

Seriously this isn't the last lifeboat off the Titanic, the last helicopter out of Saigon. More boats and helicopters are on their way all the time. Just wait your turn and be grateful we have an NHS which has stepped up to the challenge and is leading the world in managing a massive logistical challenge.

It was always going to be necessary to use broad bandings of priority.

We are so lucky to have an expectation of getting vaccinated in the near future whatever your age or other circumstances.

I've just had it with hearing whiners complaining "it's not fair".

I was surprised (in my mid-40s) to be offered one before my husband (59) but when I looked at the list of underlying conditions I saw it included neurological issues and muscle wastage, which I do suffer from although not in a way which is usually visible. My invitation came from my GP surgery so I presume they are searching their records for conditions on the list. In the event my husband was offered one the next day, so we are both done now.

@Newfor2021

What’s even more ridiculous is that people even want this so called Vaccine!!! Hmm
Biscuit Hmm
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/03/2021 13:10

I’m more than happy to wait my turn, even though I’ll be on of the last, but I’m not happy to sit locked up in my house while at least 50% of the people who have had it are out socialising!

Where do you get this figure? Of all the people I know who of had it none if them have changed behaviour
Some of them have never fully complied to lockdown anyway ( small breeches ) others still sticking same as before

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/03/2021 13:14

I don’t know anyone doing this. But this smacks of vaccine envy.

MichelleofzeResistance · 06/03/2021 13:14

I'm soon going to be going back to my normal job and mixing with many different people and I don't mind admitting I'm worried. I'm not jealous of them or annoyed with them but I am frustrated.

This is where I am. Of the seven adults in my immediate family, six have now had the vaccine, and I'm the only one who hasn't although I'm the one with the oxygen machine at home for daily use. Can't afford to be careful re work any longer, it's head back and hope and that's it. I don't begrudge it to them at all, and at least I have the reassurance that if I bring it home at least everyone else is safer than they were. I'm not going to ring my gp and bother them, they will get to me. But yes, I'm a bit scared and a bit frustrated.

RedcurrantPuff · 06/03/2021 13:15

I’m sure people have bitched about me and why I’ve had it, I’m 47 but I am legitimately in group 6 and got sent a letter inviting me to book so 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t like people asking why I have had it though I find it quite personal.

warmandtoasty2day · 06/03/2021 13:16

new probably resides under a bridge tbf.

RedcurrantPuff · 06/03/2021 13:17

I do feel quite reassured to have had my first dose by the time the kids will be back at school, it has to be said.

OverTheRainbow88 · 06/03/2021 13:19

@Kitkat151

You can go abroad without the vaccine. You need a negative test result instead

RedGoldAndGreene · 06/03/2021 13:28

I've seen people say it's not fair on here but I'd rather randoms got the vaccine rather than doses being thrown away.

If you know someone who should be jabbed and they need help to register an appointment, please help them go online to book rather than moan on here. Offering to drive or accompany them to a centre further away might help them get jabbed sooner.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 06/03/2021 13:31

I rather like vaccine envy. I remember being concerned that too many people would refuse to have the vaccine for us to ever get out of this.

If people are fighting over it then it means they are willing to get it. Every person who gets it is one more person who is much less likely to give it to me!

Underhisi · 06/03/2021 13:35

What I find annoying is people whinging because the nearest vaccination centre with appointments is 40 min away. These are people who are not elderly and can drive. Either take the appointment or wait longer for a nearer one and be more grateful you are living somewhere where you are getting a vaccine this soon.

ImnotCarolineHirons · 06/03/2021 13:37

My friend who is 37 and no conditions got called for one

You can't be absolutely sure they have no conditions. Many, many people have health issues that they haven't disclosed even to very close friends and family. Many folk are much more private about these things than you might think. You can never say for sure.

RampantIvy · 06/03/2021 13:41

TBH I don't care who gets vaccines in what order. Every person in front of me who gets vaccinated means that I am one person nearer to getting vaccinated myself.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 06/03/2021 13:42

I have no time whatsoever for "vaccine envy." Those people need to grow up.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 06/03/2021 13:45

My friend who is 37 and no conditions got called for one.

She didn't make that call, the local health trust did. I'll be going for mine as soon as I get an invitation, irrespective of others' approval or disapproval (My DH has already had his first dose). I don't get a decision in when, how, or by what criteria this happens.

What did you expect your friend to do? Decline it?

UntamedWisteria · 06/03/2021 13:48

people need to realise that every person who gets vaccinated is benefiting the whole of society.

So just because some people get it earlier than you think you should, it is still benefiting you indirectly.

The vaccine rollout is the only thing the government has got right. They are rolling it out extremely efficiently now and no-one is likely to have to wait very long to get theirs now. So what if someone 10 years younger than you gets it a week or two earlier?

TheLoneRager · 06/03/2021 13:49

Some great responses and advice. Thanks. I feel cheered up @Mumoftwoinprimary and @RedGoldAndGreene and @MarieIVanArkleStinks
SmileDaffodilThanks

(If the daffodil has a hidden meaning I'm unaware of I'm just using it because spring is here and optimism is in the air!)

There are always going to be some people, who complain about anything, and everything, and people who have no patience. It's just an annoying fact of life.

TheLoneRager · 06/03/2021 13:50

Exactly @UntamedWisteria !

I wish there was some sort of programme in place to standardise the rollout across the country, so that EVERYWHERE was at the same stage at the same time

That was the aim originally but the different demographics of each area put paid to that pretty quickly.

But I guess it's better for Surrey (or wherever) to crack on and get more people done than to wait for Hampshire to catch up. Even though on the face of it it isn't fair.

Very glad DH is now booked in as he was a bugger for vaccine envy and it was getting to the point where he might not have lived long enough to get it himself if he didn't STFU Grin

Tistheseason17 · 06/03/2021 14:03

I can assure people that when they think "Joe Bloggs" is healthier than me and it's not fair there are usually one of 3 reasons they had the vaccination:

  1. They have not told you all of their health conditions and they are eligible - their health is not your business
  2. They are not aware of a condition they have - ie. when they were 2 they had an emergency hospital admission for asthma
  3. They have told their GP practice they are a carer (whether they actually are or not) - we have not got time to check up on dishonest people
  4. There is a spurious code on their health record that makes them eligible

The criteria are strict, the NHS has algorithms to find people coded with the health conditions - but if someone is coded incorrect there simply is not the capacity to look through 60M + medical records for the minimal number of errors.

I wish people would stop comparing themselves with others, and if you don't think you are entitled to a vaccination yet, ask your GP why or shut your mouth and stop bragging that you had it ahead of someone less healthy than you. And remember that those with a large BMI and no other health conditions are in Group 6!

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 06/03/2021 14:03

I’m envious of people younger than me who are healthy and work from home having had the vaccine..... I know they don’t have any health conditions at all.... just lucky to be living in an area which seems to be vaccinating at a rapid rate (now onto 40s)...... I’m pleased for those family and friends who’ve had the vaccine.... but my job means I’m higher risk than them, and I’m older too.... hopefully my area will speed up at some point.
