Hi

I'm 28 and have had multiple miscarriages.

I really want to have the vaccine but a friend has mentioned they do not know the affect this has on fertility.

As I'm already struggling to have a healthy pregnancy (I currently have the coil fitted to help with endometriosis and give TTC a break for a year or two) I'm worried about this.

Any opinions on this would be welcomed, thank you.

As more and more people survive covid, its becoming apparent that in some people it produces longterm body changes (in organ function, blood clotting etc; possibly inducing diabetes; fatigue ).

Any of those postinfection issues could affectfertility, conception, pregnancy .

Covid isn't going away. When the pandemic ends, it will be endemic. We all need to understand that sooner or later, all of us are likely to get infected. Vaccinated or not. Vaccination just increases your chance of a better outcome.

Would you want to risk having covid during pregnancy?
Loustew12 · 06/03/2021 22:31

I am very pro vaccines! But there is much we just do not and cannot know about this vaccine simply because it has not been around long enough. An 'expert' telling you to take it doesn't make this any less true

JustOneMoreStep · 06/03/2021 23:08

I'm undergoing IVF and was called for my covid vaccine. The advice from the clinic was to have the vaccine even though I was mid cycle. They advised that they were as sure as they could be that the vaccine wouldn't negatively impact either my ability to get pregnant or the baby should one develop, they do know that being very unwell (with covid or in general) increases the risk of miscarriage in the early stages and in the later stages if I was very unwell they might have to deliver the baby early which wouldn't be ideal. I went ahead with vaccine. I felt that the vaccine is intended to protect me in order that I can stay as healthy as possible in order to grow and care for my baby. Only time will tell if that was the right call to make!

hibbledibble · 06/03/2021 23:16

As others have said, there is nothing evidence that the vaccine has an effect on fertility. There is evidence that having covid can effect fertility. Pregnant women are at increased risk from covid. Having the vaccine when offered is beneficial for all these reasons.

I am wondering though, at 28, are you able to get it? Are you clinically vulnerable, a health/social care worker or living abroad?

Mally2020 · 06/03/2021 23:20

It won't affect fertility please stop listening to rumours and stupid opinions it's is highly offensive to us scientists.

ddl1 · 06/03/2021 23:26

Vaccines don't affect fertility; that's an old wives' tale. But if you're really worried about it, speak to your doctor.

You scientists? Superiority complex much? I’m also a scientist and not remotely offended by critical thinkers.

MouthAche · 06/03/2021 23:47

They have stated time and time again it has NO impact

An old wives’ tale? Most of them haven’t been tested for affects on fertility or carcinogenicity. They state it very clearly on the patient information sheet.

Who and where?

EpiphanySoul1 · 07/03/2021 10:07

@BeautifulDay12 can you point me toward studies on the impact of wearing hoodies on fertility? If those studies haven’t been done we really should err on the side of caution and not wear hoodies as there could be long term impacts on fertility. I know there’s no plausible way a hoody can impact fertility but we just don’t know.

EpiphanySoul1 · 07/03/2021 10:08

Btw other posters - @BeautifulDay12 was on another thread about the MMR saying that it hasn’t been proven there is no link to autism. Apparently a scientist too - is that you Andrew Wakefield ??? 😂😂😂😂

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 07/03/2021 10:36

I was worried about this too OP and convinced myself I would not have the jab when I am eventually offered it.

However after reading more about it and mentioning it to the doctor I have realised it will have absolutely no impact on fertility whatsoever.

FoxyTheFox · 07/03/2021 10:38

@BeautifulDay12 often posts vague anti-vaxx comments phrased in a way that tries to imply she isn't anti-vaxx.

Vaccines don't tend to start showing sode-effects many months or years later because they don't work like that, the vaccine isn't hanging around in your system that long. It comes in, primes your immune system for whatever it is its protecting you against, and then it gets processed out/disappears (probably a better scientific word for that!). It's basically delivering a message to your immune system then leaving. Any adverse effects show up immediately - e.g., anaphylaxis - or within a few weeks - e.g., sore arm, immune response, fever, etc. Most, such as a sore arm or feeling a bit unwell, are mild and fleeting. Even more rare effects show up very soon after being vaccinated. No vaccine has ever started showing side effects many years later.

Almost 300 million people worldwide have been vaccinated so far. If the vaccine was inherently unsafe, we'd be seeing it by now.

millymollymoomoo · 07/03/2021 10:38

If I was a healthy 28 year with no covid risk factors I wouldn’t get the vaccine. Not because if any anti vaccine theory or conspiracy, simply because the statistical likelihood of having anything more than a mild to Moderate covid outcome is astonishing small. In the same way we only vaccinate at risk categories for flu
Of course, older and people with risk factors yes take it
I hate the fact that anyone who simply says they want a choice ir a rational debate / dialogue is shot Duane as anti vaccine or believing in a conspiracy theory or being a covid denier, ridiculous! People need to get a grip

EpiphanySoul1 · 07/03/2021 10:51

@millymollymoomoo maybe you should read the op before ranting on about something unrelated

murbblurb · 07/03/2021 11:00

@millymollymoomoo you have a choice if you are in the UK, the vaccine is not mandatory here.

if you don't want it when it is offered, fine. But keep the fuck away from me and everyone else, as there is now evidence that it reduces transmission. And if you do get covid I hope you'll be refusing treatment. Choices have consequences.

SendMeHome · 07/03/2021 11:05

@wishes1111 I was nervous too. I had mine. I was lucky enough to be one of a minuscule amount of people with my condition who haven’t reacted well, and I’m waiting for a consultant to decide on whether I can risk a second dose... and my cycles are fine. All completely as normal. I read so much about it being knocked out of sync, but because Coronavirus often stops cycles for long periods... it’s been fine for me. And I feel fine, for what it’s worth!

I’m really glad I had it, I’m 50% of the way to fully vaccinated and I’ll hopefully pass on some immunity to our baby, when we’re lucky enough.

Best of luck Flowers

millymollymoomoo · 07/03/2021 11:06

I am free to comment on an open forum. Simple!
It’s relevant as anyone who states any other than delight at getting vaccinated is deemed anti vaccine when that’s not the case
As for staying away, well, like I said people need to get a grip! Hysterical much ?
If YOUVE been vaccinated you’ll be fine
So you are advocating smokers don’t get treatment? Fat people who are a huge Burden on nhs? Drinkers? Sports injuries,, ?

EpiphanySoul1 · 07/03/2021 11:31

@millymollymoomoo I’m still not sure you realise that you’ve no concept of what this thread is about. Why don’t you go post your rant on a thread about dogs or someone looking for relationship advise? It would be as relevant there.

Changechangychange · 07/03/2021 11:41

@BeautifulDay12 you joined MN a week ago, and so far have made 18 posts telling people covid vaccines are unsafe, and have made no other comments on any other topics.

I don’t believe you are posting in good faith.

Donotfeedthebears · 07/03/2021 11:43

I won’t be having the vaccine whilst pregnant or breastfeeding. I don’t plan to “stay the fuck away from everyone” for the next year or so. Sorry.

Elbels · 07/03/2021 11:54

I'm older than you, hoping to start trying for a baby this year and have just had my first vaccine.

Nothing I read from qualified, knowledgeable individuals and institutions even had me remotely worried about the impact on fertility.

partyatthepalace · 07/03/2021 11:56

Talk to your GP and the miscarriage association, not your friend.

There is no evidence it impacts on fertility.

cardibach · 07/03/2021 12:04

@SophieGiroux

Personally I think you're young so you're at low risk even if you do get covid so why risk getting the vaccine. I'm in no rush to get the vaccine although that seems to be blanked out on here and everyone appears to be pro-vaccine. Not that I am anti-vax, I've had the flu jab but have no desire to have a vaccine that the manufacturers take no liability for.
Have you considered that your anti-this-vacc viewpoint isn’t being ‘blanked out’ but rather isn’t shared by many people? There are reasons to get vaccinated even if you aren’t at high risk yourself - reduction of transmission, reduction of cases means fewer variants etc etc.
