To be sick of hearing about the bloody cat - slightly tongue in cheek

I know a lot of us are bored at the min and maybe don’t t have as much to talk about - but one of my friends has acquired a cat. She rings me like three times a day ( for half an hour plus at a time) to tell how long the cat went out for, how long it slept for, what it ate , what she thinks it’s thinking , even what sort of mood it’s in. Don’t get me wrong I’m a vegetarian animal lover-I have two cats myself. But am in being unreasonable to be sick of hearing about my mates bloody cat 😩 . I try to change the subject but she ain’t having it. Like I said tongue in cheek but please ....

Oh God I was terrified this was me, I definitely do bang on about my new cat as she is the only remotely exciting thing to happen in my life since March 2020 Blush

However, 3 calls a day for half an hour each is definitely excessive. I limit myself to 10 mins with each friend.

I’d love to hear about him for ten mins -no problem at all !

It's sounds very excessive. Your friend is clearly obsessed and feels that you'd be just as obsessed.
I'd be inclined to not respond every time.

She needs to find a fellow cat lover to unload on.

My family are all cat mad, all of us have at least one cat, so we have a family at chat thread on Facebook messenger which gets updated several times per day Grin

TheSpottedZebra · 05/03/2021 21:12

She wants to talk to you but doesn't have anything else to talk about?

MereDintofPandiculation · 06/03/2021 14:07

Tell her about yours. Both of them.

Sleepingdogs12 · 06/03/2021 14:21

The odd bit is that she is phoning you 3x a day for half an hour each time. Was she like this before the cat? She seems obsessed with you . I couldn't be doing with this no matter what we talked about. After the first call of the day say 'lovely to hear from you, I will give you a call tomorrow '.

I have 5 cats Blush and try and avoid talking about their hilarious (to me) antics Grin. Maybe this friend got the cat as an excuse to ring you 3 times a day...

Meowchickameowmeow · 06/03/2021 14:24

Bloody hell, I love cats but an hour and a half every day of what the cat might be thinking would drive me insane. In fact, an hour and a half every day talking on the phone about anything would drive me insane! Does she think (or does the cat think) that you have nothing better to do?
I'm afraid I'd stop answering the phone and let her muse with her pussy exactly what you're thinking.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 06/03/2021 14:24

I feel you OP, my sister phoned me to let me know her cat hadn’t had diarrhoea yesterday and his poo had firmed right up, and even when he did have diarrhoea he still made it to the litter box each time.

I love my sister and the cat, but I reeeeeally didn’t need that update and it was tea time...

thecatneuterer · 06/03/2021 14:29

I have a friend like this. I eat, sleep, breathe cats and even I find it too much:) However I just think myself lucky it's cat and not baby/children related.

AlCalavicci · 06/03/2021 14:30

It sounds like she is a bit lonely but that is no excuse for 3x call to you everyday .I would point her in the direction of FB cat groups so she can cat-chat on there and call you less often about other things .
When she calls could you ( gently to start with ) ask her about other things going on in her live DCs/ DH/ work / last place she went for a walk etc.
If she doesn't take the hint say to need to go out or are cooking bathing your DCs etc.
We should not have to make up excuses to not talk to some one but it is hard to tell them you are not interested in what they are talking about
