DS asked for some crisps for a snack, I said yes he could have some. DH started going on and on about how he should have grapes instead, or kiddilicious baby crisps.

I do all meals and snacks for both, as DH working in study.

I really try my best to cook with the children, encourage plenty of fruit and veg in their diet, and every so often if my son asks for crisps, say yes. I can't get worked up about it, but DH says they will make DS 'uncultured' Hmm

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER Walkers French Fries are a brand of crisp and they are absolutely lush. Mid 40s and still my snack of choice!

ChocOrange1 · 05/03/2021 19:04

I don't usually give my kids crisps for a snack just because I don't think they're very filing, so they usually want another snack 15 minutes later. But not because they're uncultured, that is bizarre

NellePorter · 05/03/2021 19:05

We're common as muck here then Grin

@Liquorishtoffee is this one particular region of Spain, or everywhere? Asking for a friend ....

PervyMuskrat · 05/03/2021 19:05

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland French Fries are only 79 calories per bag so they’re not too bad from that perspective.

Tillytrotterisarotter · 05/03/2021 19:09

I challenge you to give DS a greggs sausage roll for lunch tomorrow OP. Maybe washed down with a bottle of tea or cola.

BakewellGin1 · 05/03/2021 19:14

Definately uncultured here... I don't eat a lot of crisps (only because I need to diet ha ha)

So today's Asda shop consisted of
Monster Munch, French Fries, Pom Bears, Seabrooks Cheese and Onion and Asdas own version of Quavers Grin

This was in Madrid (granted, we were there a million years ago). DH says it was like that in the ME back in ye olde days too.
Liquorishtoffee · 05/03/2021 20:03

Been googling crisps now... here’s a crisp related gem from Stacy Solomon...

“The Loose Women panellist, 30, showcased her extremely organised cupboard via her Instagram stories on Friday by documenting how she used a curtain rail to hang her crisps from.

Clipping each individual packet to a ring that she then placed on the rail, which were then arranged by colour.”

I will never again take the Mickey out of my brother for organising his tins in the cupboard by size and colour and making sure that all the labels are facing front and lined up precisely (even though I do the same).

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 05/03/2021 20:05

Yeah my cupboard is like that. Not squashed in on top if all the other shite at all!

Roob23 · 05/03/2021 20:12

Everything in moderation. My two ate quavers, french fries and wotsits from a young age and hasn’t hurt them! Skips, Pom bears all easier for little ones to eat too. They can be enjoyed with a balanced diet!

MinesAPintOfTea · 05/03/2021 20:16

Finger painting: very cultured!

sanityisamyth · 05/03/2021 20:26

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER

Surely French fries are skinny chips? (Chips as in Brit-speak, not as in American-speak where they call crisps, chips.) Never heard of Brit type crisps being called French fries.

I presume OP meant these.

DavidsSchitt · 05/03/2021 20:38

He'd curl up like a fucking Aldi cheese curl and die in my house

SkankingMopoke · 05/03/2021 20:52

Life is all about balance. The odd packet of crisps is fine, and it's much better to get them hooked on French Fries than have them realise how much nicer your Kettle Chips are 😉 I still remember the sinking feeling when DCs declared my chilli coated peanuts were delicious 😫

Germolenequeen · 05/03/2021 20:58

Gosh, this thread has made me wonder what happened to wheat crunchies, I used to love the spicy tomato flavour.

@PrtScn me too 😋

legalseagull · 05/03/2021 21:03

They're FRENCH fries. Can't get much more cultured than the French!

I hate this nonesense. My 3yr and 2yr DCs love some quavers or Pom bears. I hate that I feel like a drug dealer smuggling them out of the changing bag at the park.

lachy · 05/03/2021 21:03

Your DH is a twat. A big one.

We are very much a crisp loving family, and we always have a bag of crisps with lunch on a Saturday (I don't tell them about my midweek crisp feasts)

Tell DH that if he makes another nobbish remark that he will be responsible for preparing and dishing up for an entire week.

Liquorishtoffee · 05/03/2021 21:16

There’s nothing I like better than not or those party sized bags of onion rings - any supermarket own brand (cheaper the better) will do. It’s my guilty little secret (also the cheapest supermarket own brand coleslaw).

thefishthatcouldwish · 05/03/2021 21:20

Have you actually eaten kiddicious crisps ? I find them vile

Holyforkingshirtball · 05/03/2021 21:21

My dd (5) & ds (18 months) both adore pickled onion monster munch - now that's uncultured 😂

Liquorishtoffee · 05/03/2021 21:25

I’m on the fence between the pickled onion and beef ones. Do they still do the tomato ones? I do love a flaming hot Dorito though. Mmmmmmmmm

Merename · 05/03/2021 21:27

I wonder what cultured people eat? Grapes?!

I remember being at a toddler group with my then 2yr old who was eating wotsits and a maybe 1yr old tottered over looking like they wanted one. I encouraged mine to offer and the mum snatched baby away like we’d offered heroin. I thought about being offended for a moment until I remembered that I too was that mum about a year prior, who thought salt and sugar were evil and would poison my PFB for life! Not sure what that’s got to do with culture but I guess it’s about the deterioration in ideals happening pretty fast with kids, sounds like your DH hasn’t been in charge of food often enough Grin

Liquorishtoffee · 05/03/2021 21:30

Asparagus. Maybe that’s what they eat.

MiaowMiaow99 · 05/03/2021 22:12

But a packet of Kettle chips can be over £2.00 when not on offer.

Culture, sophistication and a rip off = middle class wet dream.

greenemerald · 05/03/2021 22:14

Now I really want some French fries...
