2 adults 4 dcs here (aged 7 down to toddler) and since covid, our grocery budget has slowly eeked up and we're now spending £130-£150 p/w. We don't drink so no alcohol included, but that figure does include toiletries like shower gel and also cleaning products. The kids take packed lunches to school, and with dh and I both working from home, the groceries include lunch for us too.

I shop at a more expensive supermarket cos they're the only ones that deliver to my house (and they charge a fiver to deliver which ups the cost even more), but I reckon if I dragged my arse to aldi or lidl I could probably knock at least £50 off my budget. I cook lots from scratch, and lots by batch.

Am I being unrealistic to think I could get a good weeks shopping in aldi or lidl for under £100? The only concern I have would be that the fruit, veg and bread from aldi doesn't last as long, and I'd hate to have to do a top up shop as I'd end up spending more.

Easily £100 minimum per week on entire grocery/supermarket shop without alcohol. We're definitely spending more with the DCs not being at school too.

Skysblue · 05/03/2021 21:12

Ugh. £250. 😬

BettyOBarley · 05/03/2021 21:14

£80-100 per week with an online Asda delivery here. Two adults and two young children. I've tried Aldi a couple of times and always end up spending more as I'm chucking all sorts in the trolley!

Oblomov21 · 05/03/2021 21:26

Good grief. You lot don't spend much. We spend £100+ easily on Dh, me, 2 ravenous teen ds's. I spent £160 on a sainsbury delivery yesterday. And £150 on an Iceland delivery today. That was just 'bits' - kitchen roll, butter, squash etc.

We shop in our local Aldi regularly. I can spend £150 without even blinking.

oblada · 05/03/2021 22:14

Family of 6, (4 kids, 9yrs old down to 8months old). I do a delivered supermarket shop (ocado or asda) once a fortnight for about 100quids. I get fruits and vegs from a local guy who comes round with his van, about 20quids a week and every so often get fish so about 20quids that week. We also do a Costco round every 3months for about 300. If need be we top up at co-op.
So all in all I would say about 100-120quids a week maybe? That includes everything really, food, toiletries etc.

oblada · 05/03/2021 22:17

We don't eat meat, maybe that makes a difference...

Oly4 · 05/03/2021 22:21

£200-£250 per week, two adults, 3 kids under 10

Meredithgrey1 · 05/03/2021 22:25

Family of three, and DD is 20 months and gets breakfast, lunch and a small afternoon meal at nursery 4 days a week. We spend approx £40-50 weekly at Sainsbury’s, plus maybe £10 during the week for milk, fruit, little things.

Beachbabe1 · 05/03/2021 22:30

£130 a week 2 adults, 1 teen and a child. That's for all toiletries, cleaning products etc. We tried aldi and lidl but didn't like it. Hardly any choice and the way they throw the food at you at the checkout 😱 ! Asda home delivery here 😊 No stress

bluemoon7 · 05/03/2021 22:32

£100-£120 per week from Ocado. Two adults and a dog, and this figure includes cleaning supplies, toiletries, etc. No alcohol, and very little meat. We also get a takeaway once or twice per week. We are both at home nearly 24/7 these days, so while we spend a lot more on food than we used to, we justify it by saying we’re not spending on stuff like commuting, entertainment, takeaway coffees, etc.

Charlottejade89 · 05/03/2021 22:47

£50-60 a week, 2 adults, toddler and baby so shop includes formula, nappies, toiletries and cleaning products. I shop at aldi, it would kill me to shop at sainsbury or tesco

meetmeinarizona · 05/03/2021 23:33

1 adult 1 child (4 nights/days a week) - £40 - £70

FinallyFluid · 05/03/2021 23:50

I have no idea.

In my mind, it balances out, some weeks too much other weeks not so much.

MRSGGG · 06/03/2021 04:18

2 adults, 2 DD 8 and 10.

I shop at tesco with delivery saver that I share with my mum who lives at a different address.

We spend approx £115. I buy a lot when it's on offer so that I'm not buying full price. I'll only buy a cheaper version of.something if tastes the same and doesn't have extra salt/sugar. Some sauces I make from scratch I.e. bolognese as it's cheaper than a jar it's just passata and herbs ifyswim.

I get a quarterly shop at Costco and buy stuff that significantly cheaper in bulk..toilet roll, kitchen roll, sugar etc

Have also started doing the same for chocolate/sweets bars with an online wholesaler as hubby has a sweet tooth and could easily do 1kg of haribo in a weekend!!

I could get it under £100 I reckon but we eat what we want when we want. Will be lower when children back in school but that cost will just change to school dinners!!

Theorangeorange · 06/03/2021 04:41

£250/280 per week, 2 adults & 2 children. That includes everything (wine, flowers, cleaning products etc)

Curlyshabtree · 06/03/2021 05:58

Around £80-£100 a week all in. I shop at Lidl, a little Asda, international supermarket (for meat, spices, pulses etc) and a local veg stall. We’re a family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers. I cook a lot from scratch and bake quite a bit too.

maddiemookins16mum · 06/03/2021 06:32

2 adults and 16 yr old DD, so pretty much the same as 3 adults. Roughly up to on average £65 a week here including most toileteries, all household cleaning/washing stuff and cat food. I pick up occasional extra bits I fancy from the local Coop which is maybe another £20.

I’m a non drinker, DH has a cider once or twice a week. We don’t have a lot of snacks in the house, the pack of 4 Wispa Golds in the fridge have been there 3 weeks.

Marmite27 · 06/03/2021 06:40

There was a thread on this a few days ago. We spend an average of £100 a week, sometimes more, sometimes less.

2 adults, 1 pre-schooler and 1 KS1 child. All meals eaten in the home, with the exception of 8/14 lunches for the kids (5 days school and 3 days nursery lunches).

Toiletries and cleaning stuff is usually separate, and from pound shop type places except if something is needed in a hurry, calpol and toothpaste are the main culprits here. Laundry stuff is also separate, and from Costco.

This week was £47.40 in Aldi and £23.85 in Asda, so we’ll under the £100 budget. Asda also included a £5 birthday present for a fiends child. Well under budget. Last week, not so much as the pre-schooler convinced Daddy to buy £14 worth of hats! But that’s his problem on his week to pay Grin we alternate going / paying as it’s variable and means we both take a turn. (All other bills come out the joint account).

Wannabegreenfingers · 06/03/2021 06:42

1 adult 2 x children. Average at least £100 week, thats with meal planning. I just can't get it below that. Mainly shop in Aldi & Morrisons.

zaffa · 06/03/2021 06:44

@Saywhatyoumeanandmeanwhatyousa

Also, if you have Amazon prime, Morrisons will deliver groceries for free if you spend at least £40
How does that work? I have prime but still pay for each delivery
Marmite27 · 06/03/2021 06:47

I’ve never had an issues with fruit / veg / going off. When it has, it’s usually due to DC2 bashing it while ‘helping’.

You have to be on the ball with dates though, its so easy to pick up short dates stuff that won’t last without realising. I always check and take f&V from the box/crate below to reduce the amount of people touching it.

Pyewackect · 06/03/2021 06:48

£150-£200.

YeahYeahThatsMoi · 06/03/2021 06:50

We spend £100 for 2 adults. 2 under 5s. Then there's top ups. So probably an extra £30. We're terrible really but we like top shelf stuff.

Phillipa12 · 06/03/2021 07:12

1 adult and 3 dc age 12 downwards. I shop in tesco as its next to one of my clients and purely for convenience. I spend on average £80 a week with no alcohol or meat. My sister is a meat inspector so I get most of my meat straight from the slaughter house and the rest from their butchers, its still not as cheap as the supermarket but it goes further and is much better quality.

IndecentFeminist · 06/03/2021 07:13

Probably an average of around £150. 2 adults, 3 kids plus dog. All cooked from scratch bar a lazy Saturday dinner. includes a little alcohol, toiletries when needed, cleaning stuff etc.

Normally a Tesco delivery of around £110 ish plus a couple of smaller shops
