I live in a terrace house with a shared passageway. My next door neighbour has said she’s building a bar down our shared passageway for when she has parties as a place for people to store and pour drinks... basically a couple of shelves with a cover that will fold out as a table. (Hope that makes sense). It doesn’t sound like it will restrict access at all but I’m concerned about the potential noise of the regular parties. Next door neighbour has said the reason for this is because she doesn’t like people traipsing through her house to get drinks. FYI she has recently out a pool in her garden. Am I being unreasonable to raise this as an issue and say I don’t want the bath down the shared passageway?
Secondly... we have three cats, and besides there are many other cats in the neighbourhood. I’ve heard today she has a high pitch cat scarer in her garden. Any thoughts on raising this as an issue. I understand it’s her garden but our gardens are only small and the high pitch noise is really unpleasant for me, let alone the cats and children with better hearing. I feel like she’s taking over and using our shared passageway as an extension of her garden. Sorry for the word dump!

It's a health and safety issue, a fire hazard and could devalue both houses. It's a no all round in my view.

A HUGE no. It will cause nothing but trouble and she has no right to do this in a shared area. Stand firm and say NO.

YABU need a proper subject line

YANBU to say no to the bar issue. Imagine if it gets damaged when using the shared path. It needs to go in her garden.
YABU about the cat scared, she’s completely entitled to that. No one likes other people’s cats in their garden, especially when like my NDN’s cats they dig and shit in your garden numerous times a day.

I’m not sure how I missed the subject and not sure how I can edit this! Thank you all for the support about the bar area, I needed the reassurance. Regarding the cat scarer- her garden is all tiled with a pool. I fully respect people are entitled to put want they want in their own gardens but I know for a fact my cats don’t go in her garden (we haven’t lived here for very long and my cats are well trained, they even go back in the house to use the litter tray). I’m just gutted we live directly next door to someone with one and it’s intense enough for us to hear too.

That sounds weird a fully tiled garden. I can see why a cat would not be interested. They are annoying as hell (the screeches) but at the end of the day you can’t say she can’t have one I’m afraid.

I completely agree with this... Two separate issues here.

Not sure you can do anything about the alarm unfortunately although I get why you don’t like it. We considered getting one to deter cats from crapping in our garden all the time but we’re worried the sound would upset our boy who has ASD.

The bar though- fuck no. Cheeky cow can do one.

Notapheasantplucker · 04/03/2021 18:44

YANBU about the bar. YABU about the cat deterrent. Who says it's just your cats she doesn't want in her garden? You said there are many other cats in the neighborhood so I can see why she's using it.
