My baby (9months) fell onto the edge of the skirting board nearly a month ago and she cried a lot. There was a small horizontal bruise that lasted 2 days. Today, when taking photos, I noticed that she has a dented line on her forehead when she raises her eyebrows. I never noticed it before as she has a fringe. I feel awful and so upset about it. I have read that forehead dents are here to stay. Has it happened to anyone else before? Does massaging the area help? Is it really permanent? Thanks

Edited to add - ignore references to first and second photos. The order mixed. It’s clear where she’s younger

It's more obvious when I raise my eyebrows but it's definitely there even when I don't.

Interestingly, I can raise the eyebrow on that side on its own, but not the other one!

@KeepingItReal2017 thanks so much for sharing. Not to invalidate your little girls accident but wow I wish my little girls looked like that. I can't really see anything at all now, your little girl has healed amazingly well. You must be so pleased with that xx

This is my little girls. She really is the most beautiful little girl I'm just so sad about this dent smack right bang (literally) in the middle of her head.

It will get better in time and natural face movements and expressions will mask it too. You know it’s there so will focus on it for now. Other people won’t, they will focus on her eyes and her mouth etc as she talks.

all children come out of childhood with scars of some kind and it doesn’t define them, we live with them and they fade into the background of our lives.

go easy on yourself, if I was talking to your daughter I bet i wouldn’t notice it xx

Hello, this is the OP. Changed my username as couldn’t log in to my original one.
my little girl is now 3.5 year old. I think the dent in the forehead is still there, you can’t see it unless she lifts her eyebrows. It’s covered by her fringe though so I haven’t seen it in a long time.

Happens to us all at one point or another, I can promise you that. I'll never forget my particular experience with my eldest, and she's 22 now!

My daughter ran full pelt into the edge of a cement play tunnel when she was three. The bump came up huge immediately but the cut was pretty superficial really. We saw the first aid people at the playpark and they treated it, but we were just told to watch for signs of concussion. The next day the bump was all but gone, cut healed quickly. But the indent appeared in the following weeks when she raised her eyebrows - that was 2.5 years ago and it’s still there.

Found this thread looking for others who have experienced the same… often beat myself up about not taking her to the hospital but I really don’t think they would’ve done anything more than tell us to watch for concussion. Here’s my daughter’s the day after the bump (Oct 2021) and now (taken today, March 2024). I can see a small white mark where the indent is at rest but no one else would notice it.

Really hoping it improves as she gets older 💔

Hi OP my toddler was toddling about and another child knocked him over then sort of fell on top of him and he knocked his head right into the corned of a floor tile. He had a dent in his forehead that lasted months and months but it eventually went away, nothing there now at all. I thought it was a keeper

Mine did the same but it was bleeding a lot and had to have a steristrip on it to hold it together. Small scar now but barely noticeable

Katemax82 · 06/10/2025 20:35

My daughter fell and hit the corner of her forehead on the TV stand at about a year old and still has a small scar at age 12 (she had her wound glued back together)
