I saw a toddler on his mum’s lap in the front seat of a car.

As I was getting my LO out of her car seat in the nursery car park this morning I noticed in another car that was pulling in that there was a 2 or 3 year old kid sat on his mum’s lap on the front passenger seat, the dad was driving.

I’ve noticed this car before several times because the guy always drives in way faster than necessary, but never seen this before.

The car in question is a taxi, and I know the law is different for taxis, but it’s not like it was a fare-paying taxi journey. It was a mum and dad dropping their kid off at nursery, it just so happens that their car is a taxi, I guess it’s the dad’s job. And the kid wasn’t sat in the back like the law says, he was on his mum’s lap.

AIBU to want to report this? If I’m not, who do I even report it to?

I would mention it to the nursery.

The police?

Police

If it's the only time you've seen it, leave it. Definitely NOT the police.

You should report it to the police, but it's too late now because they won't be on that journey any more, and police won't go around to someone's house to explain just because you saw it earlier. I mean I suppose you could phone 101 and mention it, but I doubt it.

If it's ignorance of the law they will aim to educate rather than punish. But that child would be killed by the airbag if they were unlucky enough to be in a collision.

Perhaps a word to the nursery is a good idea then they can send around a flyer about car safety?

BTW, it's not illegal for a child to be in the front, but they must be sat in an appropriate safety seat.
