To think school shouldn't ask me 'what gender does your child identify as?' on covid test consent form (or any form really)?

Just clicked on the link sent by school to give consent for my dc having Covid tests and one of the questions was exactly as worded in my title. There was no other question regarding the sex of my child. I object because:

  1. My child doesn't identify as any gender. They have a sex and I have steered away from gender stereotypes as much as possible, quite successfully I think.
  1. Where medical procedures are concerned I think people stating their sex as determined by biology is pretty crucial. Where medical procedures are concerned what we may or may not identify as is pretty irrelevant really and to act otherwise could even be dangerous in some situations.

There was no option to tick N/A or anything so I had to put their sex as the answer to the question posed and as far as I know point 2 above is irrelevant when it comes to the Covid test. But I'm pretty annoyed about it and would like to write to the school to voice my concerns about their attitude to sex and gender.

Would I be unreasonable to write and, if not, anyone got any suggestions as to what I should write?

Is it a school form (as in one they’ve put together) or an NHS form the school has linked to?

Most NHS forms I’ve seen recently have a tick box for male or female with a explanation box of why there aren’t more options (which quite neatly covers a catch all for those who don’t identify with the gender stereotypes assigned to their biological sex - although I do wonder what box the small number of intersex people tick)

If it’s the school form I’d probably point out to them the terminology the NHS use themselves, they should correct it really.
