Neighbour argument

Flowerlane · 27/02/2021 14:57

Name changed🤪

Excuse the length of the post and also any errors as using my phone.

2 neighbours are currently having a argument over a incident that happened this morning.

Neighbour A let her children and her dog out to play this morning in to her own garden neighbour B’s cat was in their garden and got spooked by the kids and the dog. The cat has tried to climb the tree to get over the fence but somehow has managed to get caught. Cat stuck in tree with dog at the bottom barking madly at it. Neighbour A and B have both run out to garden as the noise from the cat and the dog were both very loud. B manages to get the cat untangled by leaning over fence on a chair. Cat obviously has injured its leg and was rushed to the emergency vets.

Now B has knocked on A’s door and said that the cats leg may be broken and its having x rays this afternoon etc she is waiting for a phone call from the vet she then said how would A be paying the bill? Would she pay her or go direct to the vet and pay the bill? Confused
A has stated that she is sorry that the cat has injured itself but she will not be paying as it was a accident and she can not see how she is at fault and has to pay for it.

B has gone mad and said her cat was spooked by her children and dog thats why he got stuck and was struggling to get away from a mad dog so it’s obvious she needs to pay!!

B said she will be back once the vet has phoned to let her know the amount and that if she isn’t prepared to pay she will be taking it to small claims court as it’s A’s fault her cat is injured.

A has asked my opinion as we are friends and whether she is being unreasonable. I think she is in the right and is not being unreasonable at all.

So why I sit and curtain twitchGrinWhat do Mumsnet think is A being unreasonable by not paying the bill?

Definitely not oldstudentmum

I had cats in my garden frequently. Even when I had two dogs. It was always a race to see who got to the fence first.

The cats always won but it was a close run thing.

I did my best to discourage them with all sorts of things. Nothing worked.

Thankfully they were always quicker than the dogs.

intheenddoesitreallymatter · 27/02/2021 16:56

B's cat, B should pay.

It comes with the territory of owning cats - they land on their feet 9/10 times but the time they don't it's eye wateringly expensive!

She clearly doesn't have insurance and is trying her luck.

A's children and dog being in their own garden are really none of B's concern and if B's cat had an ounce of sense it wouldn't have gone in!

islockdownoveryet · 27/02/2021 16:58

omg no way , it’s nobody’s fault except the daft cat so cat lady has to pay for own cat .
Seriously people are getting right cf’s .

BarbedBloom · 27/02/2021 17:11

I have a cat and unfortunately accidents can happen, which is why I have insurance. No way should A pay.

flumposie · 27/02/2021 17:22

Neighbour B is bonkers.

misskatamari · 27/02/2021 17:31

No way should A pay, and I say that as a cat owner. B should have insurance for this very reason

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/02/2021 17:44

A doesn't have an insurance, does she....

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/02/2021 17:45

Sorry B! B doesn't have an insurance imo

Flowerlane · 27/02/2021 17:45

Thanks for all the replies and sorry if I confused people with the A & B I used I didn’t want to offend people by calling the Crazy neighbour B a real name (I know a Karen who now actually hates her name) anyway back to the arguments...

Well Cat Mum messages dog Mum and tells her the vet has phoned and that the cats leg is broken and cat has had to be sedated because it’s had such a dramatic experience etc the bills is in its hundreds and she again has asked how dog mum will be paying.
Dog mum replied saying again she is very sorry that the cat has broken it’s leg but again she will not be responsible for the bill as it’s not her cat and she, her children and her dog did not cause the injury. It was accident and she should now go through her pet insurance.
Cat mum replied that she can not believe how totally unreasonable dog mum is being and that her husband will be round when he has finished work to discuss the matter as he is very unhappy with the situation as well.

Dog mum obviously discussed with her husband and he thinks they should offer to contribute as he doesn’t want to have a long going feud going with the neighbours etc - on a side note he is a very quiet man who just wants a quiet life and also not a very big man where as cat dad is well over 6ft and a big build😂
Dog mum called her husband a wuss and said they will not be backing down and texted cat mum and said the same would be repeated to cat dad and that they will not be paying.

So as it stands now, cat mum is fuming and apparently banging around the house cat dad is at work but finishes about 7pm. Dog mum is drinking wine and ordering a takeaway and dog dad is pretending to be working upstairs on the laptop when really he is hiding with the curtains closed in the bedroom watching tv.

And me...I have opened the blinds fully so I don’t miss when cat dad arrives homeGrin

Dog dad has sadly fed his spine to the dog.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/02/2021 17:50

I have to say I quote like the "HOW will you be paying" rather than asking if they will pay😂 Even though B is unreasonable.

TeamA

Also, really shit of B to be threatening to send DH around. I mean like, they are adult women who can deal with it. No need for an intimidation by a large man. Shitty. If she sends him in to intimidate A for real I hope she kicks her little toe on a furniture every day for a month

Soubriquet · 27/02/2021 17:53

Like someone else said, if the dog got into the her garden and attacked the cat, then yes A should pay

But it didn’t

The cat was free roaming therefor B has to accept that there are possible chances of injury

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 27/02/2021 17:54

I am available for hire to dog mam if dog dad is hiding. I found a spine and baws out the back.

How will you be paying indeed...

Smacks of kicking herself for lapsing on insurance.

OhCaptain · 27/02/2021 17:58

Tell DogMum NOT to let her husband pay out!

AlwaysLatte · 27/02/2021 18:00

Cat parents definitely at fault. The cat injured itself, your dog did not even touch it (I would offer to pay if my dog directly injured the cat though). And if they make the decision to let their pet wander around unsupervised then the very least they should do is get it insured for just this kind of scenario. I really think pet insurance should be compulsory.

makingmammaries · 27/02/2021 18:00

I hope the dog has balls at least.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 27/02/2021 18:08

If dogdad insists on paying this time, every time that cat goes home with a scratch, limp or fleas, they will be chapping on dogfolk’s door.

Flowerlane · 27/02/2021 18:10

Some of these replies are really making me laugh. Dog mum definitely wears the trousers in that house it seems. Dog dad is a lovely bloke, always ready to lend a hand and help someone out but does like a quiet life.
Dog mum is adamant they are not paying and not going to be offering a token payment. Seems her and the dog have more balls then dog Dad. Grin

Cat dad I don’t know that well he always says hello and waves etc but works long hours so not around as much. When he is off work he seems to spend a lot of time with kids taking them swimming etc as seen him a few times as we are both members of the same gym.

Dog mums takeaway has arrived - looks like Chinese - god I hate being on a diet.

Wondering if dog dad is having Chinese or still hiding...

Well all of us at mn ‘rent a spine’ are awaiting 7pm.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/02/2021 18:13

Tbf if it goes wrong her and the dog are much less likely to be punched by cat dad than dog dad is🙈 So I get him keeping out of it😂 Self preservation, innit

For how annoyed dog mum is at the situation it’s looking more likely that cat dad will end up having the black eye Grin

Ha! You must do live coverage OP

WannabemoreWeaver · 27/02/2021 18:31

Not A's fault at all. If my cat goes into a neighbours garden unless they attack the cat, I would not hold them responsible for what happens. That is the joy of cat ownership. B is bang out of line.
