To ask if it’s unusual that my dd still hasn’t got her smear test invite

She’s 25 late July and hasn’t received her invite yet.

I would imagine it’s because the surgery is busy with Covid and haven’t had time to sort out things like smears. If she’s worried why doesn’t she ring the surgery and book one?

Islandescape · 26/02/2021 20:19

I didn’t receive my invite until a month before my 25th birthday.

Dishwashersaurous · 26/02/2021 20:19

It can be up to six months before turning 25 but equally it is every three years so she might not get it until nearer 28. If she is worried she can phone and make an appointment though

Whentheleavesfalldown · 26/02/2021 20:19

From what I understand, invites don't come from individual surgerys, but from a national database.

Just get her to call and make an appointment.

SnackSizeRaisin · 26/02/2021 20:20

It would be a bit soon really...she isn't going to be able to book an appointment now for July, is she? I expect they will send it out a week or so before her birthday

LagneyandCasey · 26/02/2021 20:20

Yes she can call and book herself in.

Cotswoldmama · 26/02/2021 20:26

I've always had my invite a month before my birthday. I think she should wait until then and then make an appointment if she hasn't had a letter.

independentfriend · 26/02/2021 20:41

Not necessarily. But the answer might well be that she's had one and hasn't told you about it. Assuming she's not learning disabled or otherwise cognitively unable to organise her own health care, it's weird to be asking a question about someone else's smear tests.

GlamourSpider · 26/02/2021 20:45

I also usually get an invite a month before my birthday too.

LtJudyHopps · 26/02/2021 20:49

I got a letter around 5 months before my birthday. So I made an appointment, got there and the nurse refused to do it as she said the lab wouldn’t even process it until I was 25. She wasn’t even nice about it, spoke to me like it was my fault I’d booked an appointment!
So I had to re-book for a couple of weeks after my birthday.

therocinante · 26/02/2021 20:53

I got mine six months before 25 and most people I know in my area did, but I'm due one currently and the surgery are very behind so I think it's a Covid thing!

Beaniecats · 26/02/2021 20:55

My gp surgery isn't doing them atm because of covid apparently
I'm going to book it privately when I get a moment

Worriedmother666 · 26/02/2021 20:58

She brought it up with mr as we talking about home smear test. As most of her friends have had their invite.

I received mine a few months after I turned 25.

I think I got mine about six months before I turned 25 and had the actual test about a month before IIRC.
CoffeeRunner · 26/02/2021 21:17

A lot of surgeries will not book bee in until she’s technically “overdue” now anyway due to limiting face to face appointments during Covid.

You don’t need a letter. At our surgery, she would be asked to phone the day after her 25th birthday & we would book her an appointment. We would not be able to book her in any sooner.

CoffeeRunner · 26/02/2021 21:19

Her. No idea where bee came from.

pinkstripeycat · 26/02/2021 21:21

My niece had hers last April and she turned 24 the month before

Worriedmother666 · 27/02/2021 10:45

She’s always thought it was six months before. I always thought she could book as soon as she got the latter
