To wear a lesbian flag badge

I'm a lesbian, (I sort of didn't realize it and always said bi) I dated a couple of men because really it was easier now I want to exclusively date women. I have no idea how to go about it, the dating apps for my area have such a small pool of women but I'm about to start a public facing roll do you think if I wear a lesbian price flag I might get a date?

I understand there's a pandemic and will continue to follow the rules of my country, I just have no idea how to get any ladies.

I did look at the lbgtq section but there's like no one there 😭 I keep finding myself staring at cute couples thinking how do I find one!

Sadly while badges are good conversation starters, they do not often result in a relationship.

There might be a group or place lesbians tend to go, which will vary by area, but most people meet through friends, I think, so it's better to join groups looking for likeminded friends.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 26/02/2021 18:24

Try a lesbian dating app? Is there a female equivalent of Grindr?

Keepitnerdy · 26/02/2021 18:27

I've looked for specific lbgtq groups but there doesn't seem to be any online ones unless it's tick tock people from my country are a bit internet phobic. All bars are closed right now, but yeah I could focus more on making friends my mum's friend runs a play group and she's a lesbian (I just don't fancy discussing me being a lesbian with my mum unless I had a gf )

Keepitnerdy · 26/02/2021 18:28

I did look at apps like Grindr but there's a lot of warnings of scams and men pretending to be women which puts me off.

Keepitnerdy · 26/02/2021 18:29

I'll get a badge maybe no dates but maybe I will be invited to something related? Any ideas where to get a nice pin?

Certainly around the 90s, the women's walking groups were more likely to be full of lesbians than straight/bi women. It might not be as much like that now but you never know.

My city had a nice lesbian book group running for a while. That would work on eg zoom. I think they read things like 'Stone Butch Blues' and 'Rubyfruit Jungle'.

I'm absolutely not saying you shouldn't wear a badge btw, as long as it feels safe. It just might take a while for that to translate into deeper connections, but you never know!

SarahAndQuack · 26/02/2021 18:33

I'd join social grounds. There's bound to be various ones on facebook, maybe a local one near you.

TBH I'd have no idea what a lesbian badge looks like.

wildwomynworkshop.com/store/badges/badges-25-mm/lesbian-symbol-25mm-feminist-button-badge/ she does worldwide shipping

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 26/02/2021 18:40

www.etsy.com/uk/listing/729534574/ I would recognise this as a lesbian badge. I realise there's now a lesbian pride flag that includes many colours, and might be more recognisable if you're younger.

I am in my thirties, and I feel like signifiers of lesbianism change really too quickly tbh. We used to have pink triangle badges when I came out, which annoyed me in a pedantic sense, because lesbians had to wear black triangles in the actual holocaust, but there we are.

ButterflyBitch · 26/02/2021 18:43

You could try the giggle app. It’s a social/networking app for women. Not just for lesbians but you might find some like minded folk to get chatting to and make connections with? And it’s deffo just for women. (The xx kind)

Keepitnerdy · 26/02/2021 18:43

There's feminist book shop maybe I can ask in there. (Not saying feminists are lesbian) maybe they know of something, my language skills for this country just isn't that great I also have a young son but next year I'll have a lot more free time so maybe I'll focus more on building up friendships it's just I've been single for 2 years and I think I've broken a bit I find I'm staring at cute women soon much I feel terrible. I find someone women look back but then I have no idea what to do maybe it's just the mask thing .

justletmeadoreyou · 26/02/2021 18:43

Could you try the Her app? It's a lesbian dating app I believe. Bit of a scandal recently about the amount of transwomen on there but they're not exactly hard to identify and scroll on past.

SarahAndQuack · 26/02/2021 18:44

TBH, although I know what a labyrs is, unless I'm staring at someone intently, I don't think I'd really notice.

I mean badges are lovely, but I don't think it's going to get you dates.

Keepitnerdy · 26/02/2021 18:45

I have a look at giggle as I haven't seen that one yet. ..maybe? My Google search history is getting pretty embarrassing

OP posts:
Keepitnerdy · 26/02/2021 18:48

At this point I would consider making a shirt saying Lesbian and single . I read so many bad reviews on Her
I think that so many of them have bad reviews and the ones where you pay only seem to have like 5 nearby it's not worth paying for that.

@Keepitnerdy

I did look at apps like Grindr but there's a lot of warnings of scams and men pretending to be women which puts me off.
Grindr is an app for gay men.
SarahAndQuack · 26/02/2021 18:50

Grin That made me smile.

Honest, though, if you start socialising with a lesbian group it'll be so much easier because you can drop it into conversation or people in the group will talk about you to friends, or whatever.

Keepitnerdy · 26/02/2021 18:52

I know Grindr is for men there's a similar one for women but the reviews are terrible and it doesn't have that many members.

OP posts:
Keepitnerdy · 26/02/2021 18:57

I can't find a Lesbian group 😭 either I put myself to my mum's friend which I don't fancy doing as I don't want endless discussions with my mum she will be fine with it but will want to talk about it or get into it.

Or go to the feminist library, so seems like I'm making a plan. 1.Buy badge just incase might get me invited to somewhere where there's magical lesbians who are not coupled.

  1. Go to feminist library shop place and try and find a appropriate group.
3.try giggle.
  1. Design and print shirt which is cheaper than most dating apps membership.

Lesbian here 👋🏼

There’s lots of subtle signs that someone is gay and those of us who have been out are quite adapt at spotting those. Literally wearing a badge is obviously up to you but that alone won’t necessarily get you noticed. Rainbows used to be a pretty good indicator but now it’s fashionable so not always.

One thing you need to get comfortable with IMO as a gay woman is making the first move. You can’t sit around and wait to be noticed or asked out as you would expect with heterosexual dating. Join some lesbian groups, get chatting, make friends and go from there!

If you want me to add you to some Facebook groups feel free to PM me x

Keepitnerdy · 26/02/2021 18:59

Out myself not put myself sounds like I'm offering myself up to her 😜 I've been single for too long without a single date.

Dalyesque · 26/02/2021 18:59

In the old days women only and lesbian events/ groups were respected and meant we could meet each other without pressure. These days this spaces have been colonised by men and lesbians are not welcome in mixed spaces. As others have said, it is likely to be be difficult to meet women without having to wade through the self defined male lesbians with penis. So sad that this is the case. The older lesbian mags have also been taken over, but maybe an ad in say Diva could mean that you could find others and weed out the obvious non starters.. you could also organise a group with all the lesbians like you, which might be fun and less risky.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 26/02/2021 19:00

www.etsy.com/uk/listing/837528130/lesbian-labrys-flag-face-mask-lgbtq this is a mood.

I would almost assume if someone had a lesbian badge on, they were in a relationship.
Whereas something a bit more subtle would probably prompt me to comment.

www.etsy.com/uk/listing/546485337/san-junipero-or-bust-pin like this.

But i'm a weirdo, to be fair.

I met my partner at a women's holiday centre at a feminist gathering, so tbh your feminist book shop idea has merit.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 26/02/2021 19:01

lesbian connection magazine is lovely, I think, and there's usually a 'contact dyke' in your area.
