Skin tag removal - any recommendations?

Posted for traffic, I don't actually have an AIBU?

Has anyone has any success with any skintag removal product on the market? I'm 47, peri menopausal and these little bastards are popping up under my arms, on my neck and in my groin. The NHS won't do anything as they are considered cosmetic despite being very painful where the skin rubs them, especially in the warmer months.

I can't afford to go private Sad

I know it sounds a bit like a "snake oil" treatment, but tea tree oil worked for me. I just put a small amount on the tag every day for a week or so, and it fell off. You could always test it with one and see how it goes?

FuckyouCovid21 · 26/02/2021 09:55

Doh, cross post.

@RonObvious I've read about tea tree, it said to put some on a cotton wool ball and tape it to the tag. Did you do this or just dab it on?

I just snipped them off with fine scissors and stuck a plaster on until it stopped bleeding. Nothing left when healed

BlueSoop · 26/02/2021 10:00

I cut them off with nail clippers. It leaves a little scab and quickly heals.

Are you aware of the connection between skin tags appearing and insulin resistance? If you tackle it by eliminating sugar long-term, they are likely to disappear and not come back.
If you join a couple of intermittent fasting FB groups online (16:8) you'll see lots of posts of before and after by members.
That's assuming there isn't another reason for them appearing - but I guess your GP would have said.

Mellonsprite · 26/02/2021 10:02

If they are still small and thinish I pull or snip then off as I hate them. They bleed a bit but not badly.

I just dabbed it on. Hadn't seen about taping it on - plus, tea tree oil is pretty strong, and I was a bit nervous about having it neat on my skin! It was fine, though. I was surprised by how well it worked.
TheFoz · 26/02/2021 10:04

I tie thread around the base and they fall off within a few days or a week. You may need help with this though!

Skin Tag Removal Pen on Amazon

I bought this, I had it for ages before I used it, cos I was a bit apprehensive, but now I'm annoyed I had it so long and didn't use it sooner!

It's an electronic pen device. You touch the ends of the skin tags with it and it electrocutes them, basically.
It doesn't hurt, more like a slightly uncomfortable zap.
It turns them black and mine dropped off within a week.
It has a multitude of other uses that I haven't tried out but it's been worth it, just for the skin tags alone.

MyLittleOrangutan · 26/02/2021 10:09

I tie thread round DHs. I had a tiny one on my belly and just kept fiddling with it, turning it until it fell of.

MyLittleOrangutan · 26/02/2021 10:09

Off

heidbuttsupper · 26/02/2021 10:11

This worked for me. No pain and 2 tags I'd had for years were gone in days!

Skin tag removal - any recommendations?
SmeleanorSmellstrop · 26/02/2021 10:11

I got some when pregnant and I pulled mine off too. Glad to hear otjers did as I thought I was disgusting and was a bit ashamed of myself until I read this 😂

HeyMicky · 26/02/2021 10:12

I use tag band as well. I was convinced it was going to smart but it wasn't painful at all

FuckyouCovid21 · 26/02/2021 10:24

Thank you all, I've got tea tree so I'll try that first and if it doesn't work for me I'll try the electronic pen thingy. Not fancying the snipping off or bands, makes me a bit squeamish

Definitely the cauterising skin tag ‘pen’ from Amazon. Burn the suckers off for pennies each. I’ve done all mine, and then several of my friends. The smell is a bit intense, it’s def burning flesh, but it isn’t painful to the people I’ve done it on. Takes a moment’s bravery the first time, then you’re off and flying. What doesn’t shrivel up as you do it, falls off and heals within a few days.

I promise that all that endless dabbing of vinegar and tea tree seems like a big pointless faff in retrospect.

Dab the tea tree on after you burn them off, by all means. A lovely natural antiseptic. But skin tags need a ‘mechanical’ solution, not a chemical one.

The pen is also great for those weird flat pale mole thingos that you get in middle age. Mainly on the torso? I get them around my bra straps. Takes a few ‘zapping’ sessions and then they’re gone.

The slight sting is greatly minimised when I think of how much money I’m saving. It’s obviously important not to be an idiot and start zapping away at things that could be skin cancer, or go over areas carelessly and cause yourself scarring, etc. And clean your skin and pen tip with alcohol wipes. But if you’ve got a steady hand and a bit of courage it’s a stellar solution.

We’ve been sold a crock that it can only be done by specialised medical staff. If you’re unsure, pay for them to circle the safe ones to zap, then go home and do it yourself?!

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 26/02/2021 10:37

I got lots of little ones in pregnancy and just pulled them off with tweezers! They bleed way more than you'd expect but it doesn't hurt that much. Apart from the one I had on my eyelid 😱

notsosmoothie · 26/02/2021 10:42

Aaaaargh all my insides are turning around as I read these...

For those of you who snipped and burned and tweezed, how big were yours?

I have (what seems to me) quite a big one on my hip –it's about the size of a the head of a cotton ear bud, and the 'neck' of it is fairly wide. Would these tools work on something like that?

honeylulu · 26/02/2021 10:53

I used tag band on a long thin one on my 6 year olds face. It was surprisingly easy and not painful. She said it pinched a bit at first, then forgot about it. It fell off after two days, no mark at all.

Lol I’m a snipper 😂, but I probably wouldn’t do it on one as big as yours. I would probably try banding or tie thread around it though (I’m not a medic!!)

I got my friend (a nurse) to do this to one I had on my underboob. It had grown, and got sore where my bra rubbed.

Worked a treat.

happytravels · 26/02/2021 11:29

Mine is huge too - would the Amazon pen thing work on huge ones? I definitely couldn't snip - it would feel like cutting off my own toe!

I have tried lots of things- if anything happens it just turns red and sore then recovers.

Dinkydody · 26/02/2021 11:37

Interesting 🤔

Liverbird77 · 26/02/2021 11:39

My GP removed two for me. One on my neck, which I'd had since childhood, and one on the top of my inner thigh. I think he put something on them to effectively burn them off.
Is it worth asking again?
