Skin tag removal - any recommendations?

Posted for traffic, I don't actually have an AIBU?

Has anyone has any success with any skintag removal product on the market? I'm 47, peri menopausal and these little bastards are popping up under my arms, on my neck and in my groin. The NHS won't do anything as they are considered cosmetic despite being very painful where the skin rubs them, especially in the warmer months.

@Nitpickpicnic that sounds great!! ...off to look at Amazon!

I've snipped mine (and other people's) off with tiny scissors. Ice cube on first to numb the area if you're a bit jumpy.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 26/02/2021 12:40

I snip them off with sharp scissors. There's a tiny spot of blood and it stings for about a minute afterwards. No scars.

This thread has made me smile so much!!!

A few years ago I noticed a small raised circular area of skin not to far from the end of my c-section scar, kind of lies just under where my underwear band sits.

Anyway, it got bigger over time to the point where it now looks like a wart. It’s still small but I really hate it just for cosmetic reasons. I simply thought it was a wart but now, based on this thread I’m starting to wonder whether actually it’s a skin tag and that I can do something about it.....
I can do something

MixedUpFiles · 26/02/2021 13:42

If the bases are thin, I use a pair of tiny, sharp scissors to cut them off. They rarely even bleed.

TheNinjaWife · 26/02/2021 13:47

I removed two from my DH with the ‘thread’ method. I also dabbed them with clear nail varnish. Fell off within two days.

Cookerhood · 26/02/2021 13:50

I've snipped off tiny ones but I have some that are quite big. I'm going to get one of the zappers - can't wait!

CattyCactus · 26/02/2021 13:54

I painted over mine with clear nail varnish every day for a few days and it eventually fell off. Totally painless.

Helpel · 26/02/2021 13:58

Try a different gp, you might have success. I had about 30 'burned' off with nitrogen, mostly under my arms and around my neck. Smarted a bit, but so worth it! And it was an NHS gp, on the grounds of the discomfort they caused rubbing my clothes.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 26/02/2021 14:00

ThornAmongstRoses I'd be careful because that doesn't sound like a typical skin tag. They're not usually circular but more like... seed shaped? With a very thin base where they attach to the skin. Perhaps get them looked at before you try any treatments.

ThornAmongstRoses · 26/02/2021 14:20

heydemons - that’s my worry....that it might not be a skin tag and therefore me taking scissors to it may not be the best idea.

I really hate it, so haven’t inspected it too closely....maybe I should be brave and post a photo for peoples’ opinions Grin

Hankunamatata · 26/02/2021 16:02

GP froze dc in local surgery.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 26/02/2021 16:05

ThornAmongstRoses Do it. Make sure you TAG me in the photo. (ba boom boom tsh)

Once the beauticians open up again, ask there. I had 5 skin tags removed from my neck for £25. My beautician is trained to do skin tag removal amongst other stuff.

Quick and easy - healed in days with no problems.

Many years ago I removed one on my stomach with a very small elastic band (one of those tiny clear ones, but like a loom band). It wasn't too bad, but painful when it went black, but it healed up ok.

EggysMom · 26/02/2021 17:42

Are tea-tree or the band device the best options when you only have one hand available? One of my tags is near an armpit, there's no way I can do a two-handed knot in thread, or stretch the tag whilst applying chemicals to its stem.

ChrissyHynde · 26/02/2021 17:51

My DH cuts mine off with a Stanley knife (sterilised blade). It's not as gruesome as it sounds , works fine.

CaurnieBred · 03/03/2021 19:55

@Kollin thank you so much for the recommendation for the remover pen from Amazon. I bought one on Saturday and since then have managed to remove a polyp just inside my nostril that has been there for decades. I am so happy.

Matrons · 03/03/2021 22:23

I cut mine off after a double vodka

2Rebecca · 03/03/2021 22:29

Agree narrow based skin tags can be removed by the electrocautery pen. Broad based skin tags can't though. You'd need a local anaesthetic injection first so are probably looking at private cosmetic surgery

2Rebecca · 03/03/2021 22:31

Agree if you get a lot you may be developing diabetes especially if you are obese so worth getting a fasting blood sugar done and losing weight. Some of it is genetic though.

DianaT1969 · 03/03/2021 22:35

I was about to say that I'm surprised nobody on the thread is wondering why they get them and treating the underlying reason. It can be an early warning for diabetes. You could have metabolic disorder. Some people on here said they developed during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes? Please investigate potential underlying issues, or just cut out sugar for a while in case.

buzzandwoodyallday · 04/03/2021 13:02

Try Cryotag. Worked great for a large skintag that my DP had. Took 2 applications over a few weeks, but was gone within a month, and it really was very large.

CaurnieBred · 04/03/2021 22:15

I used Emla cream to numb the area first

thenightsky · 04/03/2021 22:23

A dermatology nurse once told me to rub Ibuleve or volterol gel into warts and skin tags a few times a day and they fall off. I didn't believe it until I tried it on a big twiggy looking wart above my eyebrow. Amazing results.
