How to pot faux plant for outdoor

So am looking to get faux topiary plant to put outside my door. I will put it in a larger pot, but how do I do this, it's artificial but I imagine I would still need to create holes in the pot I'll be putting it in due to rain collecting inside of it?
What do people put inside to make it heavy and to raise the plant higher up?
I've attached photo of the type of plant am referring to.
I hope this made sense

I drilled a hole in the bottom of the planter and weighted down with a lot of decorative stones. I chose coloured stones that complimented my front door and pathway so it blended in.

Can I put actual soil in it just for weight purpose?

You can.

I recently bought some (came in a pot already) for outside front door and really pleased with them, pretty realistic. I went for the Buxus shrub from this website:
www.evergreendirect.co.uk/artificial-trees/topiary-trees.html

DH attached them to the step behind so they don’t blow over (windy round here!). I found when looking for realistic faux hanging basket due the death of the beautiful real ones we had....!
