Booking a holiday in Scotland for August would you?

Hi everyone,
We are planning on booking a holiday in august and wanted to go to Scotland, we went last year kids had fun it was good but lots of things were closed obviously due to the virus, and the kids really missed the swimming pools (🤷🏻‍♀️). Anyway with Boris's announcement of all goes to plan everything should be open by then, we were hoping Nicola sturgeon would say they same but she hasn't. With no certainty would you book Scotland anyway ? I think she won't be too far behind Boris but who knows. If things are open and swimming pools too then that's perfect.
Thanks

go for it 🎉

GoLightlyontheEarth · 24/02/2021 21:57

I would. If there’s anything left..

Labobo · 24/02/2021 21:59

I would. We did the same last year. Were disappointed that lots of places were still closed (including on-site pools) but still had an incredible time just walking and exploring and going out on boats.

summerholidays21wouldyou · 24/02/2021 22:03

Oh thanks everyone, we still had fun too, there's still some left so I'll get on to it asap xx

notanothertakeaway · 24/02/2021 22:12

She said that holidays in the UK were a possibility. I wouldn't assume it'll be possible, but many places will refund if you can't travel

smellyolddog · 24/02/2021 23:40

Every time I mention going to Scotland in august my DH who lived there says "oh no the mites" I think there are some kind of Scottish style mosquitos. I should I really look this up but I always have visions of Scotland being covered in mosquitos.

If someone could tell what on earth he is banging on about that would be great!

But sounds like a great idea OP did you get it booked?

Claireshh · 24/02/2021 23:49

They are called midgies and are awful. Imagine a cloud of tiny mosquitoes.

MrBloomsLeftVeg · 24/02/2021 23:51

Midgies. Absolute pain in the backside the minute the weather improves especially on the west coast

GoLightlyontheEarth · 25/02/2021 00:12

The midges are operational between June and September on the whole. They like water damp and gloom. They are mainly on the West coast. So look on the East coast or more inland areas . Some years are worse than others.

bridgetreilly · 25/02/2021 00:23

I would and have. I can't see any reason not too.

summerholidays21wouldyou · 25/02/2021 00:53

@smellyolddog that's exactly what I thought but i researched last year I think they are more in the highlands and countryside. We weee in Glasgow , Ayr abd Edinburgh and we didn't see 1 mite if that helps.

Midge I mean not mite

I've booked a week in Crieff and fully expect it to go ahead

summerholidays21wouldyou · 25/02/2021 00:55

Thanks everyone I'll definitely be booking then

wherearemychickens · 25/02/2021 00:56

We've booked for August. I am worried about the midges, I have to admit. Only been to Edinburgh before.

BlueThistles · 25/02/2021 01:44

yip.. west coast Midges are legendary.. Grin

GoLightlyontheEarth · 25/02/2021 09:30

You need some good repellent. Avon Skin so Soft has always worked brilliantly for me. Keep the windows shut after dusk and and first thing in the morning. Wear long sleeved light coloured clothes. Avoid being near water .

ClarkeGriffin · 25/02/2021 09:56

You should be fine by August. Covid rates will probably have dropped by then like last year, and Sturgeon is back tracking quickly with how pissed off she's made everyone here.

peak2021 · 25/02/2021 10:09

I would if I could cancel at minimal or nil cost.

billybagpuss · 25/02/2021 10:12

We booked ages ago for mid July, fingers crossed. If England should be all systems go be June I’m hoping July will be ok.

summerholidays21wouldyou · 25/02/2021 10:15

@billybagpuss yea that's what I was thinking too. I can book and get a full refund so I'm going to go ahead and book thanks everyone
