I do not use Netflix. I have Amazon Prime. Most people I know use Netflix but I am curious to know why beause the two are very similar. What makes Netflix more popular? I have watched over 20 videos on Amazon Prime.

I have prime but I'm running out of things to watch. I did use the trials for extra channels (20 cogs) but there wasn't a vast amount I wanted to watch on them. I think like a PP I might switch to a monthly model and rotate between prime/ netflix/ disney. Amazon is handy for prime delivery too though.

RandomLondoner · 25/02/2021 10:18

I've been watching Prime a lot recently, having previously exhausted Netflix. What's annoying me is that I also have full Sky, and there's so little I want to watch onthat there that I'm spending 80% of my time on Netflix, Prime or even Youtube.

Hobbesmanc · 25/02/2021 12:46

Netflix has much better original content but we binge watch more stuff on Prime- plus we save a fortune on delivery charges. Glad we can afford both but if one had to go it would be Netflix

Confusedandshaken · 25/02/2021 12:53

I'm deaf and a lot of Amazon content doesn't have subtitles whereas Netflix shows always seem to have them.

twinkleprincess2020 · 25/02/2021 15:20

I love my amazon prime mines £5.99 as I just have prime videos.
I find theres plenty of choice I do wish the leaving soon section was easier to find though.

Guidebutton · 25/02/2021 15:24

I think they're quite different. Prime has more of the film big titles, usually for an additional cost. If it's a film I want to see, I don't mind that, in the same way that I would once upon a time paid the rental fee at Blockbuster. Grin

Netflix has a lot of the box sets "everyone" is talking about.

Quite a lot of stuff is on both, but not necessarily the things that people are seeking out iyswim.

CatOnAHotTinHoof · 25/02/2021 19:21

Amazon prime is shite. Netflix is ok. I watch more on BBC iPlayer and c4 player.

Wotsitsarecheesy · 25/02/2021 19:36

I have all 3 at the moment. It really just depends on what you like. I much prefer amazon prime and almost never watch netflix. DH is the other way round. We all watch disney, but tha'ts because we are catching up on things. We will probably stop and start that though.

kathmacc · 25/02/2021 19:41

I too am “never knowingly undersubscribed” - have Sky, Netflix and Amazon. Now get Discovery + free for a year with Sky and my 2 eldest boys who live away from home can access my full Sky package via the Sky go app. - think they maybe using my Netflix also! Probably Prime too. However anything I want to watch on Prime always seems to cost extra - I won’t cancel though as use for delivery, music and now sport.

aquashiv · 25/02/2021 20:32

Netflix is great for American documentaries about murder...

Flute56 · 27/02/2021 21:19

I think whwere Amazon prime falls down is they do not have everything on. There was an Emma series on television in 1999 and they have only put one episode on Anazon Prime. Thankfully I have all the episodes on dvd but the point is, you should be able to get more than one episode on Amazon Prime. Also I think that the new films out at the cinema take longer to go on Amazon Prime than Netflix

OP posts:
Flute56 · 27/02/2021 21:22

Sorry the Enma series was 2009

The thing with Amazon Prime is there’s no way they could offer free postage, music, books as well as every single show and film they have on the site for free for £7.99 a month. It’s just not possible and unrealistic

Flute56 · 27/02/2021 22:51

ok well I have signed up to Netflix now and i do not like it. The problem I hae is that when I go to the search engine and type in the name of a film. it either does not come up or it has a load of other films that come up. I tried to search for some of the films that I have watched on Amazon Prime and when I put the titles in, they do not show up as on Netflix. For instance, I watched a film called Mrs Dalaloway on Amazon Prime and when I searched for that on Netflix, it did not come up. Three other films that I have watched on amazon prime did not come up on Netflix either,

I am tinking of cancelling my Netflix, Amazon Prime is easier to navigate and search for specific films

OP posts:
MyDcAreMarvel · 27/02/2021 22:54

@Flute56 the films don’t show because they aren’t available on Netflix!

Ontheboardwalk · 27/02/2021 22:59

Copyright issues and the fees the platform needs to pay to show the series/films mean they aren’t available on each platform

This is why many of us have multiple subscriptions. You don’t get everything from one subscription for £12.99 a month

namechangetheworld · 27/02/2021 23:02

We have both. Prime is much better for films. Netflix is better for TV.

GrumpyHoonMain · 27/02/2021 23:06

Really depends on taste. Amazon Prime does have more quality stuff and there is even more choice if you’re prepared to pay a bit extra for the channels. I do find for quality Indian content Amazon Prime’s own productions are better than anything else including Bollywood films - and a lot of it is in English. It’s so good I think it won’t be long before one of them win an Emmy or Oscar / BAFTA.

LizzieMacQueen · 27/02/2021 23:06

Netflix is better for box sets - made by netflix films are okay but they're not cinema releases.

What I tend to do is look at what's trending and what's coming next. Stick with it a while.

I joined to watch making a murderer and breaking bad. Try those 2 out.

PhatPhanny · 27/02/2021 23:12

I did prefer prime, but pissed off they keep dropping what im watching suddenly

Flute56 · 27/02/2021 23:17

ok well I have come to the conclusion that Amazon Prime suits me better. You can navigate around it better and when you go to the search engine and put in the title of a film that you want, you just get thar film, not a whole load of other titles as well coming up. I did a search on netlix for Hunger Games and they are not available on netlix so all in all, the films that I would like to watch are not on netflix so I am cancelling my subscription. So its Amazon prime all the way. Thanks for all your responses. Because so many people use Netlix I thought it was good but I have changed my mind and I am sticing to Amaon

JollyGreenGiantess · 27/02/2021 23:18

Different shows on the different platforms OP.

scissy · 27/02/2021 23:20

I've resorted to using websites like "Just watch" www.justwatch.com/uk to check which platforms a particular film is available on after getting frustrated manually searching on Prime only to have to pay for it (When it's free on Netflix) or it's not available at all (in the case of some really old stuff). In general though ours in order of watching goes Netflix, Disney+, Prime. Prime is in a distant 3rd place compared to the others though.

Mally2020 · 27/02/2021 23:21

Amazon original shows are better than the netflix ones, but the choice is greater on netflix

eatsleepread · 27/02/2021 23:29

I have both, but would rather go without Prime. I just find Netflix more user friendly; so you can rewind part of a programme without ending up back at the start within one second! Subtitles are available on everything and all content is included in the price.
