To think there might be more to this recurrent mastitis ??

Always in the right breast. Cycles as a flare up, week of autobiotics and symptoms ease them 3 or 4 weeks later it starts again.

Symptoms start with a dull, feeling of painful fullness despite regular feedings. Breast becomes hot at red and the pain increases to a sharp shooting pain. Any touch to it is agony and huge red areas appear. I get aches everywhere, shivers and a low grade fever. Sometimes with nausea.

Baby (10 months) sometimes refuses that side during the peak of the infection and I have to hand express in a hot bath or shower.

Obviously I will contact the GP again tomorrow. In the mean time any advice?? Experience??

Have you had a scan to check for an abscess?

My sympathies, it sounds awful Flowers

The gp mentioned last time that more investigations will be looked at if it came back again.

You poor thing, I had an abscess with DC1 and it was very painful. I remember not being able to lift him out of his cot Sad.

If it is an abscess I think treatment now is typically just antibiotics and ultrasound guided needle drainage, so not too invasive and instant relief.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

If it is being caused by blocked ducts, you could try soya lecithin.

Justcoming on to offer sympathy - this happened to me with DD... kept coming back, absolute agony, used to scream with pain.... I could have written your post.

But it wasn't anything serious and I emerged.... no explanation and after about three months it stopped, or rather, just came back a couple of times more but mildly....

As a PP I was also going to suggest soya lethicin. This was recommended to me by a lactation support midwife.
Another thing that might be worth a mention, do you express at all? If so, check that your nipple is perfectly centred in the funnel bit. I kept getting blocked ducts then realised when I used my pump it kept sucking my nipple at an angle.and compressing the one side which is where I kept getting the blocks.

Thanks everyone for the advice :) I'll get some soya lethicin today.

Its been happening for ovee 6 months now so I suspect if it is an abscess they'll maybe consider draining it .. Lucky me!!!
