There’s definitely something animalistic in it I think. I’ve been with dh 20 years and always think he smells nice - even though he doesn’t use aftershave. He just doesn’t smell bad! He says the same about me and likes to sniff my armpits sometimes - he always says he loves my smell.
My ex who I was with before dh used to often smell funny, even if he’d just had a shower or brushed his teeth - I just used to find his smell weird and eventually dumped him!

When DP and I first started seeing each other I would sniff his coat when he came over and nipped upstairs to the loo. After two DC and living together for over a decade I've now gone nose blind. It wasn't necessarily an aftershave smell either, just a him smell.
