AIBU to think saying June to September includes all of September?

Please solve a dispute between OH and I.

Looking at booking a holiday property for later in the year (isn't everyone!). One of them says certain facilities are available June-September.

I think this includes Sept. He doesn't.

So am putting it to a vote!

YABU - Of course it doesn't include the whole of September, you ninny.

YANBU - yes saying to September includes everything up to 30 Sept.

I'd have thought it includes all of September as people without school holiday restrictions will tend to go on holiday June/July/September. September is the tail end of the summer season.

If it's Spain then some pools are only open mid-June to mid-September - you might want to double check?

ErrolTheDragon · 23/02/2021 09:47

YANBU. It's like 'think of a number between 6 and 9', isn't it?

Though it would be helpful if they said 'inclusive ' to make it completely unambiguous.

lubeybooby · 23/02/2021 09:49

I'd be really unsure what it meant and have to ring to check

BarbaraofSeville · 23/02/2021 09:53

If it was about something that mattered to me, I would check. Eg an outdoor pool being open. Like a PP I've seen the small print for 'June to September' to be something like 15 June to 15 September.

This is the sort of thing you cannot assume without clarifying that they mean exactly what you hope it means, as that could lead to disappointment.

Surely it's a short hand for 1 June to 1 September (or probably, realistically, 31 August). That's how I read it. So it's not about mentioning the entire month but rather from the start of June to the start of September.

Hahaha88 · 23/02/2021 09:59

I would imagine it meant 1st June to 31st July but surely the easiest thing to do is just ask them?!

IliveonCoffee · 23/02/2021 10:00

Honestly, I would think it would include September

In reality, in the world of holiday lets, this means either:

They are technically open, but not operating fully in someway. E.g. the pool is open, but the hot tub is closed as its quiet/being cleaned/not working. Or the clubhouse is open but they're only operating entertainment on sat/sun night, or they're doing bingo but the awesome stuff they advertised has long since finished.

Or, they are closing Mid-september (or worse the first week depending on how the dates fall), facilities will be patchy at best. When asked why they are closing they will tell you they close in September....? They know full well people will assume june-sept means to end of September, but the deliberately unclear wording means they get away with it, reducing the price by maybe £10, and offering much less.

Call and double check ALL the facilities are open!

I'm just delighted you have used the word ninny, haven't heard it for ages!

TrickorTreacle · 23/02/2021 12:15

June to September is a quarter and it would include all of September. Why wouldn't it so?

The next quarter is October to December. And so on.

TrickorTreacle · 23/02/2021 12:19

I can't edit my above post, so posting again. It's 4 months (so not a quarter), but my interpretation would still include all of September.
