Being hounded by friend to buy Tropic skincare products

Icantrememebrtheartist · 22/02/2021 19:50

Friend had a baby and is now harassing everyone she knows to buy these ‘amazing’ products. It’s so obvious it’s a MLM thing.

Has anyone used these products? Are they any good?

I feel a little bit sorry for her because it isn’t the first MLM thing she’s tried to flog to everyone she knows.

@YouokHun if I ever meet Susie Ma I will shake her hand and thank her for the small part she played in improving my love life. I will also tell her that my ex had slightly more integrity in his little toe than MLMs: Tropic included.

Snaketime · 22/02/2021 21:44

Actually my friend sells Tropic and it is really good stuff. Honestly do some research into it.

HeckyPeck · 22/02/2021 21:50

I was wondering how long until the hunbots found the thread 😁

Gooseysgirl · 22/02/2021 21:50

Christ alive I am SICK of these MLMs! All over fecking FB. I'm a moderator on a local group and MLMs are completely banned. The parent of my son's friend has started selling BodyShop... she is actually making money on it, because the same gullible few keep buying the stuff with money they don't have!!! I really wish more could be done to put a stop to it 😔

addicted2spaniels · 22/02/2021 21:53

Just be honest. Say you like her but not the stuff and would prefer not to have to keep saying no.

It's crap, btw, I got some online and was really disappointed. The shampoo had such an odd scent it made me feel queasy and it was really watery.

percheron67 · 22/02/2021 21:53

We have a local news site and someone posted last week saying how wonderful the products were. I had never heard of them bur guessed that it was a sales pitch.

BallsToYouSue · 22/02/2021 21:55

@Freixene

Vile cult that preys on vulnerable gullible women, like all MLMs. I wouldn’t buy their products if they made me look 20 years younger
This, with bells on.
allthegoodusernameshavegone · 22/02/2021 21:56

Tropic products are lovely, ethical & vegan. You can just purchase through their website.

Dee1975 · 22/02/2021 21:57

My SIL sells it (not pushy). Quite expensive. But very nice ...! The hand cream balm is excellent. But not cheap at £10 a pop.
My husband will only use their shower wash. All natural products I believe.
But if a ‘friend’ is hassling you, it’s a pain. Tell her to stop!

Thecazelets · 22/02/2021 22:05

I recently muted a work acquaintance who started selling Tropic on FB. It was painful; she was even involving her 18 month old daughter in the marketing guff - cue 'Little X loves learning about how gentle the products are on her skin...' with photos of artful arrangements of a confused baby and bottles of overpriced gunk.

Freixene · 22/02/2021 22:09

Not ethical at all. Cruelty free campaigners won’t endorse MLMs

Bloody hell! I've stupidly agreed to a zoom 'Temple Spa' evening in a couple of weeks.
Are they a MLM? Are their products any good? I've looked online and they're bloody expensive.
Am I going to have to have a sudden and unexpected problem with my WiFi?

MLM businesses are not ethical.
TableFlowerss · 22/02/2021 22:26

What is wrong with people? Hard seeking tactics to friends then trying to get them to sign up to this amazing product.

Happened to me recently when someone close to me tried to blindside me in to one of these pyramid schemes.

I was incensed that they were pretending they were genuinely interested in my life etc and then ‘bang’ the next thing I know she’s on the phone to get boss and passing the phone to me in the hope I’d sign up! What a twatty thing to do. Had she been 18 fair enough but mid 30’s with kids 😡

TableFlowerss · 22/02/2021 22:26

selling

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 22/02/2021 22:27

@terrywynne that makes sense, I ended up asking one 'ambassador' "do you know Susie Ma?" Because she was blathering in so much about her. It was very odd. Another one at a party showed us all a picture and said "isn't she just so pretty" and waited for answers. She is but I'm not sure how that was relevant at all

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 22/02/2021 22:28

How do Tropic people end up going to South Africa and Mauritius and al these fa cry places on holiday?

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 22/02/2021 22:28

*fancy

TheRebelle · 22/02/2021 22:33

The thing is, if I’m going to buy expensive make up or creams then I want the experience of going to a nice shop, trying different products, getting the nice bag, looking around the shops and having a coffee or nice lunch, not handing a crumpled £20 note over to a school mum in the playground at drop off. Otherwise I may as well pick up some Rimmel when I’m doing a big shop in Tesco.

LibyanFeet · 22/02/2021 22:38

@DidgeDoolittle you and your WiFi might want to go into hiding for your own safety. Temple Spa is an MLM.

rawalpindithelabrador · 22/02/2021 22:38

Unfollow her. Ignore her messages.

The trips are incentives you qualify for and are based around a core 'convention' and/or awards ceremony'. The details vary by scheme. In some you have to pay travel. Sometimes the travel is paid for. You get a few days hotel paid for - how many often depends on the level you qualify at. You may get some spending money. If you want to upgrade to business class (to look good on social media), extend holiday beyond the few days of event, or bring more family with you then you have to pay for that.

During the event you will spend your time at training sessions, whooping as people get awards and bonuses on stage, listening to speeches from the tiny percentage of people who made lots of money and (sometimes) doing group activities like early morning yoga.

Despite how the fact you can be promoted, rewarded, given bonuses by the parent company etc you are nonetheless the owner of your own business...(sarcasm altert!)

KihoBebiluPute · 22/02/2021 22:43

Friends don't try to guilt friends into buying overpriced junk.

Ergo, if she pesters you, she is not your friend.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 22/02/2021 22:44

@DidgeDoolittle Look like it. How unfortunate that your router is going to develop a need to update and reboot itself that evening, followed by “connection issues” Grin

CommanderBurnham · 22/02/2021 22:44

Maybe you're allergic??
