Posting here for traffic.....

I'm fortunate in a number of ways to be in a decent job with a steady salary and have a manager who appreciates the work I do. Net result is I'm getting a small bonus. And him indoors has said I must make sure I treat myself. I like the idea of getting something nice and frivolous but can't really think of anything. I did jokingly suggest we/he/I book a cleaner for a good spring clean and he looked horrified. (he hates having strangers in the house)

So any ideas what I could get myself? I recently bought a bottle of Issy Miyake perfume (free with Nectar points) - that will last me a few years. I don't need any new clothes as I'm working from home. I stocked up on all my hobby needs before lockdown a year back. I'd love a massage but that's not going to happen any time soon. I'd also love a haircut but I'm going to insist on DH dealing with that shortly.

So what would you spend say £100 on - just for you?

Probably something hobby-related (sewing - so some posh fabric or a few patterns, or knitting, so a sweater's worth of posh yarn).
ALternatively, those amazing scented candles that cost 50 quid. I'd never in a million years spend that much on a candle but ...ohhh, what a treat to have one!

Cleaner for a deep spring clean is a great idea!

Nice bedding
Nice plants
Nice candles

BillywigSting · 22/02/2021 15:34

Do you have a garden? If a cleaner is a no go how about a gardener to tidy up the garden so it's ready for you to enjoy when the warmer weather comes?

Or a few smaller things? Some nice food, drinks etc that you wouldn't ordinarily splash out on?

A set of nice bedding?

I treated myself/my car to an intensive valet last year, it was about £100. It was like a new car for about 4 months - and scrubs up so much better each time I hoover it or put it through the car wash. He even managed to remove some red nail varnish that had spilt on the passenger seat 3 years ago!

skincare

An0n0n0n · 22/02/2021 15:53

Probably just spend a tenner and buy myself a nice teastrainer or mug so I'm reminded to be proud of my achievement everyday 'at work'.

The rest is shove in the bank and wait for a massage or to upgrade a holiday or a music event ticket. Or book a day off work and book a whole day at the cinema with a break to go out for lunch.

I'd delay the gratification!

A beautiful wool throw. I couldn't justify that sort of money on a throw normally. Buy one and wrap yourself in it on the sofa.

Luxurious dressing gown.

Rick Stein cook at home box.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/02/2021 15:57

If you want the house spring cleaned, get that.

If your partner doesn't like it, he could always do the big clean himself and you treat yourself to a bottle of fizz and a good book, to have a relaxing few hours while he cleans?

Then spend the rest on a Dishpatch delivery. High end restaurant quality food in the comfort of your own home.

Sunbird24 · 22/02/2021 15:57

I bought myself a new leather jacket and wear it to the shop

Spanglybangles · 22/02/2021 15:59

Hôtel Chocolat Velvetiser. I’ve had my eye on those for a while, but not yet felt frivolous enough to just buy one.

Defiantly41 · 22/02/2021 15:59

I'd probably treat myself to something from Etsy - a print or piece of stained glass, or a nice piece of silver jewellery - or a subscription of some kind so I got a treat through the post (flowers or gin or a craft box). Make sure it is a treat and enjoy it, it's clearly well-deserved.

oh - great idea.

DH keeps commenting about the amount of moss growing on my tiddly car!! And the fact I haven't cleaned it since I bought it 3 years back!!

(just used for me going to work and shopping so not really filthy....)

Cookery books and vinyl probably or maybe a bread maker.

WellTidy · 22/02/2021 16:10

If you want the spring clean, you should have it. If your DH doesn't like the idea of it, could you suggest that he does it himself, and you can spend the £100 on something else? I have a weekly cleaner who does ironing, and I see that as a huge treat (albeit a weekly one) because I don't then have to do it myself. And she does a great job.

Something that makes my life easier is always more appreciated by me than something that is perceived as a more mainstream treat (which I also like, don't get me wrong) like candles, reed diffusers, books, bubble bath, nice PJs, luxurious socks etc.

Yumyumdindins · 22/02/2021 16:11

I recently treated myself to a lovely and huge glass vase that I’d been eyeing up recently.

Any extra cash or birthday money for a treat I usually spend on new make up, luxury scented candle (none of that Yankee Candle rubbish that smells like toilet cleaner), nice body wash, nice coffee for the coffee machine

tentative3 · 22/02/2021 16:12

I'd buy a fruit tree or a sheepskin rug I think.

Yumyumdindins · 22/02/2021 16:12

Or a nice bottle of wine from the proper wine shop, not just whatever is on offer in the local Co-Op Grin

Awakened · 22/02/2021 16:16

I would go with the deep clean!

Failing that, botox

WellTidy · 22/02/2021 16:20

few different bottles of flavoured gins, and a variety of tonics, maybe? A treat that would keep on giving!

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 22/02/2021 16:41

Books. Always books.

Also, bookcases to hold the books...
