(I am also supposed to have a TV licence to listen to BBC radio repeats, it seems.)

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

I am unsure how it is possible for Biden to do as he has promised and prevent children from being separated from their parents at the border if it is being done by people-traffickers in Mexico who then hand the children to US border officials and say "Your problem."

Finding their parents in Mexico might not be all that easy for him.

That may have been a rash promise for him to make.

It's really two separate issues.

1-families crossing the border and the children being separated from the parents and held separately

2-unaccompanied minors crossing the border in the 'care' of coyotes.

The first is what Biden said he will address by reversing Doofus' 'family separation' policy.

The 2nd is a separate problem and much harder to deal with. There are just not enough licensed foster homes in which to place these children and not enough ICE workers to process them. Not to mention cooperation agreements with the Children's Services departments in each county in each state to get places in what foster homes exist.

And they can't just willy nilly release these children to anyone saying "Oh, I'm their uncle/aunt/parent/assorted relative". Any alleged family members on 'this side' of the border will have to be thoroughly vetted and screened before the children are released to them. And that takes personnel and money. Personnel and money that Doofus cut from the ICE 'resettlement' budget and moved to the 'border enforcement' budget. Plenty of guys with guns to drive up and down the border. Not so many Social Workers sitting at desks to actually process these children.

Dr Birx needs to take her share of responsibility in this. She was a Doofus appeaser & 'fraidy-cat' for far too long. At least Dr Fauci tried to get the truth out there, even if he did have to be careful about how he said things.

Was she the one who wished the ground would swallow her up when Trump was talking bleach?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/03/2021 19:44

Thanks, Across. That explains it nicely; but he is going to catch the flak for not being able to do the impossible instantly, isn't he.

NRA:

edition.cnn.com/2021/03/27/politics/nra-politics-gun-debate/index.html

'As Congress debates new legislation on firearm restrictions in the wake of two high-profile mass shootings, the National Rifle Association is playing a diminished role. But thanks to years of shedding its claim to bipartisanship and aligning almost entirely with the Republican Party, the country's premier pro-gun lobby's agenda has firmly planted its agenda within the GOP, a legacy that continues to frustrate efforts to change gun laws.

Once a powerful group respected or feared on both sides of the aisle, financial and legal problems in recent years have hobbled the NRA's ability to shape the political conversation around gun ownership and the Second Amendment.'

In that photo of Deborah Birx, she looks haggard. I still think she held on in hopes of feeding some science into decisions, and also because of the thought of who could replace her.

Fauci has regained a spring in his step; not so Dr Birx by the look of it Sad

Yes, she's the one. And who looked like she wanted the floor to swallow her when he said something about exposing people to UV lights to kill the virus, too.

Yep.

And the GOP and far right are having a field day conflating the two immigration issues for PR purposes.

Well, we all know not to get our hopes up when Doofus says something will happen in 2 weeks...

Donald Trump, in exclusive interview with Fox News’ @JudgeJeanine, says he will visit the southern border “over the next couple of weeks” — the full interview airs at 9pm/ET tonight.

From what he said, it was a somewhat extendable 2 weeks.

Is it likely that the Border Control have asked him to go?

"Visit the southern border"? Does he seriously think he's still POTUS and is paying an 'official visit'? Dude, go ahead, but you're just another tourist at this point.

Roussette · 28/03/2021 07:41

Birx has got a bloody nerve. She contributed to the confusion and high deaths by indulging Trump and never calling him out. It amazes me how these people now start backtracking when they were complicit in all of this. She could've gone on record saying that drinking bleach is dangerous and as far as I remember she never did. It took other medical professionals to make a statement saying 'don't do it'.

It's like they've never heard of Nuremberg.

Thanks, I thought that was her. Did she ever speak up against those statements?

Roussette · 28/03/2021 12:44

No Duncin no she did not. She just looked like she wanted to be invisible.
She could've made a statement after categorically stating that people should not ingest bleach.
But she didn't
Others had to.

lionheart · 28/03/2021 12:47

Remember this account of Trump's brilliance from Birx:

DuncinToffee · 28/03/2021 14:05

Thanks Roussette, she didn't do her job and is now trying to ease her conscience, like you said she has got a bloody nerve.

DuncinToffee · 28/03/2021 14:08

And thanks for that twitter link too, lionheart
