This made me so happy and so so proud.

I'm looking forward to many wise decisions not only with regards to the land rights of the tribes, but also in connection with the environment.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/mar/15/us-students-online-access-internet-pandemic-virtual-learning

'Attending school at a fast-food spot: 12m US students lack internet a year into pandemic.'

That's an interesting story, especially this paragraph

Experts say the piecemeal approach to the problem is not sustainable. They argue that federally subsidized at-home internet service and device purchase programs should be universally available like school lunch – and that efforts should increase to reach families that haven’t traditionally relied upon the internet to learn and work.

It seems crazy that kids like mine, who live in a stable home where both parents work, are currently getting free school lunches through the federal program, while there is still no federal program to ensure the internet and devices to learn on are available to those living in states that don't offer them.

As someone who lives in a state that does struggle with internet access, it is notable that the schools in more rural areas with poor internet have been more likely to go back full time.

It was easier for many of them in that they tend to have a smaller number of students per sq ft of school space than in the built-up areas, but even so it's been a great achievement that those of us with kids still in hybrid mode have been watching for inspiration.

Putin pushed Biden misinformation to Trump allies and media in 2020 election, U.S. says
www.cnbc.com/amp/2021/03/16/putin-pushed-biden-misinformation-to-trump-allies-during-election.html

In particular, the report said that Putin "had purview over the activities of Adriy Derkach, a Ukrainian legislator who played a prominent role in Russia's election influence activities."
Derkach, who has ties to Russian intelligence, is known to have met with Rudy Giuliani, the personal lawyer to Trump, who for months promoted discredited allegations against Biden and his son Hunter Biden.

And more

twitter.com/DavidCornDC/status/1371894170307203075?s=19

This should be big news. According to the ODNI, a former business assoc. of Trump campaign head Paul Manafort—Konstantin Kilimnik—was part of a Russian intel plot to hurt Biden & help Trump. And Manafort was secretly meeting with him through the campaign.

DGRossetti · 16/03/2021 20:50

TheNorthWestPawsage · 17/03/2021 08:23

President Biden said Tuesday he wants the Senate to overhaul the filibuster, embracing for the first time a major change to the chamber's rules that could make it easier for him to enact a far-reaching agenda that is blocked by Republicans.

“I don’t think that you have to eliminate the filibuster. You have to do what it used to be when I first got to the Senate back in the old days,” Biden told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in an interview to be aired Wednesday. “You had to stand up and command the floor, you had to keep talking . . . so you’ve got to work for the filibuster.”

“So you’re for that reform? You’re for bringing back the talking filibuster?” Stephanopoulos said.
“I am. That’s what it was supposed to be,” Biden replied. “It’s almost getting to the point where democracy is having a hard time functioning.”
...
Biden, echoing some other Democrats, was arguing that the filibuster should return to its original form, making it harder to torpedo bills. Some Democrats, arguing that the filibuster is an outdated procedure that cripples progress in ways the Founding Fathers never intended, want to abolish it, but Biden did not go that far.

The Senate’s current 50-50 split, and a sense among Democrats that former president Donald Trump and other Republicans have disdained the rules when it suited them, has recharged a debate over the filibuster.

DuncinToffee · 17/03/2021 09:20
Sad
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/03/2021 12:47

I think I am going to say that 45 banging on and on and on about the "China virus" probably has a lot to do with deranged and violent individuals attacking people they wrongly think are Chinese. It's one particular form of xenophobia that he actively called into play.

AcrossthePond55 · 17/03/2021 13:01

Twitter is on fire with Trumpers denying the possibility that their 'God' could be in the least way responsible for the shootings in Atlanta. No, his 'China virus' rhetoric could have nothing to do with this white young man killing Asians. Nothing at all!

Deluded MFers are complicit, even if they live 3000 miles from Atlanta. Denying is the same as participating when it comes to shit like this IMHO.

AcrossthePond55 · 17/03/2021 13:03

Oh, and one fucker had the audacity to state categorically that it was a 'black ops' plot. Yes, of course the black community talked a white kid into murdering Asians for their own purposes. Of course. Makes perfect sense to me (not).

Melassa · 17/03/2021 13:05

Horrendous what happened in Atlanta, how did he have the time to get to 3 massage parlours?

On a side note, what’s with this wispy beard look that the white supremacists and the gun crazies are sporting? There were a lot of them in the Capitol riot too. How can they think it’s cool? Hardly a look for a master race, the original Nazis would have been horrified. Or has alt right fashion gone all caveman this year?

PerkingFaintly · 17/03/2021 13:20

I'm cautious about assigning responsibility until we know more about what has happened in a attack like this.

Sounds like Trumpies are getting their excuses in early, though, just in case.Angry

There were 3,800 anti-Asian racist incidents, mostly against women, in past year
“There is an intersectional dynamic going on that others may perceive both Asians and women and Asian women as easier targets,” one professor said.

By "black ops" don't they mean it in the usual sense of covert or clandestine operation by government agency or the military? As in someone mandated by the government inciting this man in order to blame white supremacists? Although, you'd still have to argue that at least one of them was prepared to act in this way. Hmm Or that he was framed?

After Trump FINALLY encouraged people to get the vaccine (and spouted some serious BS about how the vaccine is all thanks to him...

DuncinToffee · 17/03/2021 15:47

In a news conference on Wednesday, investigators said suspect Robert Aaron Long admitted to the shooting spree, and said that he denied that the attack was motivated by race.
"He apparently has an issue, what he considers a sex addiction, and sees these locations as a temptation for him that he wanted to eliminate," said Mr Reynolds, adding that Mr Long was caught with a 9mm handgun and did not resist arrest.
