I'm so glad. It just shows what a small person Doofus is. That, and refusing to have Pres Obama's portrait hung. Although TBF I have a feeling that Obama probably would have politely declined the 'honor' of having Doofus unveil his portrait.

I'd be very surprised if Biden doesn't unveil Obama's portrait at some point during the next 4 years. Michelle's too.

That is a brilliant speech.

Especially the end. "Stop talking about Dr Seuss, and start working with us to improve America ".

What, in the name of all that is holy, is that about DGR?

That article lion sounds like he really is trying to split the party. 'You're either with me and give me money... or you're my enemy'

DGRossetti · 10/03/2021 11:20

What, in the name of all that is holy, is that about DGR?

Snapped somewhere in the US, apparently. Groceries by race.

(Bearing in mind my DM went out of her way to avoid South African produce in the 70s ....)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/03/2021 11:27

Oh, let's look on the bright side: perhaps it is so that non-racist Americans can support ethnic minorities by buying their produce.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/03/2021 11:29

Let's face it: why on earth would a supermarket be trying to get people NOT to buy their goods?

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 10/03/2021 11:37

Is it also possibly connected to this?
www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/mar/01/goya-ceo-robert-unanue-cpac-donald-trump-boycott

I certainly wouldn’t be buying any GOYA products after their association with the Trumps and the attempted overthrow of democracy.

It does seem to be some kind of protest, the large goya bags of rice surrounded by rice produced by black/hispanic companies.

AcrossthePond55 · 10/03/2021 15:28

March is Black History Month in the US. It's not unusual during March to see the promotion/identification of black owned businesses and products.

It's a way to educate all people about black entrepreneurship as well as hopefully increase the visibility and profits of black owned businesses to make them more successful and thus encourage more minorities to follow their dreams.

That picture is neither a protest nor a 'warning' unless the person who took and posted it is trying to 'say something'.

It was posted in another forum without comment, to be fair.

I thought February was Black History Month in the US unless I didn’t the memo

When I was in junior high school , it was always February

You're right it is February! March is Women's Month.

My internal calendar has been messed up since my mum passed. The last 30 days has been a real blur.

www.supermarketnews.com/issues-trends/giant-food-highlight-minority-owned-suppliers-shelves

From the article...

Giant Food is rolling out updated shelf labels that enable shoppers to identify products from minority-owned businesses.

Plans call for all Giant supermarkets to post the new shelf labels starting in January, the Landover, Md.-based regional grocer said yesterday. The labels will inform customers about items from companies that are women-, Black-, Asian-Indian-, Hispanic-, LGBT-, Asian-Pacific- or veteran-owned.

More than 3,100 food and nonfood products will feature the updated shelf labels across Giant’s 164 stores in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia. The retailer said the items come from 281 minority-owned businesses in its network of vendor partners.

Giant, part of Ahold Delhaize USA, said the new shelf-label program is part of its supplier diversity efforts, which focus on developing strong relationships with businesses offering quality products, top-notch customer service and competitive prices.

“Giant Food is proud to better highlight our diverse suppliers,” Giant President Ira Kress said in a statement. “We’re committed to making it easier for customers to identify product attributes that are important to them by fostering a diverse and inclusive network of suppliers that reflects the unique backgrounds and experiences of our Giant family, our customers and our communities.”

Customers also will find the minority-owned business product labels for items on the Giantfood.com website and Giant Food mobile app in 2021. The grocer offers online grocery service via 142 Giant Pickup locations and Giant Delivery, available in all of its market areas. In addition, next year Giant plans to begin highlighting the diversity of its vendor partners through storytelling and product spotlights on a new supplier page at GiantFood.com.

Giant added that it offers shoppers other on-shelf and online tools to identify products with characteristics they value. In 2017, the retailer rolled out the HowGood rating system, which flags products based on factors ranging from ingredient sourcing to labor practices. And in 2018, Giant launched Guiding Stars, a food navigation program that decodes the ingredient and nutritional information on product labels into one clear rating.

I wonder if there is any appetite for this in the UK ? Once it's been suitably nobbled into uselessness obviously.
