Kyle Griffin @KyleGriffin1
The head of the D.C. National Guard says the Pentagon placed restrictions on him in the run-up to Capitol riot that prevented him from more quickly sending help to quell the violence. The restrictions were "unusual" and weren't in place during racial justice protests last June.

DC National Guard commander says 'unusual' Pentagon restrictions slowed response to Capitol riot

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 03/03/2021 19:26

According to Jim Sciutto:
“New: Donald Trump has been formally served with lawsuit related to the Capitol attack. Formal notice that Rep. Bennie Thompson, Democratic chairman of House Homeland Security Cmte, has sued him was received by certified mail in February at Mar-a-Lago. @kpolantz reporting“

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 03/03/2021 19:29

Btw talking of Jim Sciutto. This is a very good read if you can access it. Talking about how the capitol rioters are of a similar mindset to other terrorists such as the London bombings.

Shouldn't be hard to figure out who changed that command structure.

Has anyone remembered to tell Doofus where and when?

While authorities warn of potential violence, purported QAnon adherents in chat groups are already saying nothing will occur on March 4, calling it a “false flag”.

Some have said the “true inauguration” could occur in April, while others say it may not happen at all.

Cassie Miller, a senior research analyst with the Southern Poverty Law Center who tracks the far right, told Al Jazeera she has seen no indication of planned violence.

Biden is not mincing his words about Texas decision to get rid of masks

edition.cnn.com/2021/03/03/politics/biden-abbott-texas-coronavirus/index.html

"The last thing -- the last thing we need is Neanderthal thinking that in the meantime, everything's fine, take off your mask, forget it. It still matters,"

Neanderthal Thinking Grin

Although the word "Neanderthal" brings back horrible memories.

I'm blessed in the hip department and once when I was in a club this charmer said to me "I love your child bearing hips, it brings the Neanderthal out of me"

I still shudder when I think about it.

Tom Cotton is slowing Merrick Garland’s confirmation b/c he won’t “answer basic questions” he wants answered. Of course, he had no problem w/Amy Coney Barrett not answering basic questions. @SenTomCotton, Americans are yearning for justice, not a charade.
twitter.com/stevenbeschloss/status/1367288336465813505?s=21

Merrick Garland evokes a swirl of emotions. Anger that Mitch McConnell refused to even give him a hearing for Supreme Court justice. Sadness that a man this good and intellectually talented was unfairly denied under false pretenses. Now relief and inspiration that the country can benefit from his wit, compassion and commitment to justice at a moment of such great need.

Credit to Joe Biden for a kind of karmic resolution: Garland is expected to be confirmed for Attorney General by the Senate Judiciary Committee today and the full Senate later this week.

I have to wonder why the Dems aren't playing by the same rules as the republicans. They hold all three branches is the executive. Why are they allowing Cotton to slow down?

TheSilveryPussycat · 04/03/2021 11:18

I have to say I was a bit uncomfortable with the Neaderthal remark - feels like a racist (speciesist) thing to say. Try imagining it with a different n-word...

HoneysuckIejasmine · 04/03/2021 11:26

But he didn't use another word. He said Neanderthal. You could say that about anything - "I don't like cats" "Oh, I don't like that, try it with a different word and see" 🤷🏻‍♀️

If people associate Neanderthal with a modern race or ethnic group, that's on them.

I don't mean to sound aggressive but I am so sick of the "left" playing nicely and hand wringing about everything, whilst the right don't give a fuck and are busy ripping apart the country.

DGRossetti · 04/03/2021 11:33

Isn't there some suggestion that Neanderthal genes are implicated in why some ethnic groups are more susceptible to Covid than others ?

Especially in a country like the US where health is predicated upon insurance, and insurers will use whatever data they can to eliminate risk, that might yet be significant.

Sorry, sir, we can't insure your health - you have 0.1% more Neanderthal than we permit

TheSilveryPussycat · 04/03/2021 12:13

I am in no way suggesting that Neanderthal was intended to refer to people of colour.

Only that Neanderthals were people.

DGRossetti · 04/03/2021 12:17

@TheSilveryPussycat

I am in no way suggesting that Neanderthal was intended to refer to people of colour.

Only that Neanderthals were people.

But were they ?

h. Neanderthalensis is by definition not h. Sapiens

And there's none around to ask.

TheSilveryPussycat · 04/03/2021 12:27

Is h. Sapiens the definition of "people", though? And the evidence is that that Neandertalensis and Sapiens were able to reproduce with each other.

My guess, based on Sapiens' behaviour, is that the Neanderthals may have been ethnically cleansed.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 04/03/2021 12:54

Well yes, sapiens weren't sunshine and daisies, that's how you become to dominant species.

But biologically speaking, we are homo sapiens. "Neanderthal" is colloquial use of course meaning brutish, slow, hard of thinking.

My point is I don't think we need to self flagellate over colloquial language, because we'll give the opposition ideas and they'll wind up the issue and then get on with their own agenda whilst we head for sackcloth and ashes.

It feels to me more like a remark to the effect that you'd need to be many thousand years out of date to think like that. In England he would probably have said "Mediaeval", but I suppose that wouldn't work in America, because by the time it was colonised the Middle Ages were pretty-much over.
