to the city. They sound almost too good to be true.
I have been out of work (legal, ex magic circle for13 years) for (IMO) valid reasons for about 8 years.I have done some non-paid relevantish work during that time. I have been looking at a Bank of England General Counsel flexible returnship. It pays about half of what I was on 13 years ago but would still be nice.

Is it too late to go back? My DH is a FTSE board director - responsible for employing hundreds of professionals. He hasn't come out and said it but I know he thinks it is too late.I'm going to go for it anyway but just wondered if 8 years is too long? YABU - too long, YANBU - its fine, set up for people like you.

Go for it! Even if you don't get it you've tried and at least the next one will be easier - it's always hard getting back into the workplace after so long.

YANBU

Also look at the Reignite Academy - they place people in returnships to City law firms, usually 4 days/week, proper City pay. They have placed someone who was out for 13 years! so it can certainly be done.

Different industry, but I’ve worked with people who have done similar. They really enjoyed the return to work and were valuable assets to the team, providing valuable experience, even though they had been out for longer than you have. Go for it!
