To steal one of their recycling boxes in revenge?

One of our recycling boxes went missing 6 weeks ago. It has our number painted all over it so no chance of it being taken by accident.

DP has looked out for it the last 2 bin days with no joy (we live on a new build estate and all of us put our bins in the same area as the council won't come into our shared car park to collect them).

Today however people have put their boxes out to be collected tomorrow and our box was out there! It was full of cardboard which DP took out and placed on the top of their other 2 full boxes. They left their address on the cardboard so we know who it was.

Would we be unreasonable to take one of their bins and leave them short like they did to us? I think it would be but I'm so annoyed! This is the second time we've had this happen (was a different neighbour last time)

Why do people do this and would anyone not be bothered if it happened to them?

Take yours back, but don’t steal theirs too.

Sparklesocks · 21/02/2021 15:41

That is annoying, but I wouldn’t take one of theirs - you have it back, so best to leave it now rather than risk dragging out a never ending war!

Twickerhun · 21/02/2021 15:43

I think they will just escalate it to be honest and it’ll get out of hand, if you go into war over bins. We’ve had out bins stollen, it didn’t massively bother me I just called the council for a new one.

Our annoying as hell neighbour has ha Deb their house number stencilled into their bins in a really artistic manner. I so want to steal theirs to use as a cat litter tray or similar.

Twickerhun · 21/02/2021 15:46

Can you get a spare recycle bin (or theirs) paint their number on the side, so it’s clearly theirs. and paint ‘you are a twat’ in the bottom so every time it’s empty they get to see your sentiment?

Lauren1983 · 21/02/2021 15:50

Haha Twickerhun I do like that idea.

Our council charge £7 for a new recycling box. I wouldn't mind paying it if ours was old and damaged but resent paying it when it's been stolen and could easily be stolen again!

Yeah I would do it 🤣

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 21/02/2021 16:02

No - don't lower yourselves to their level. Plus, if you take one if theirs they'll just nick someone else's.

NewScone · 21/02/2021 16:06

Paint numbers on all of them to be helpful?

Jumpers268 · 21/02/2021 16:52

Oh the rage this causes me! (Them not you!). I pay to have my bins cleaned once a month and one of my neighbours swapped her bin for mine. I swapped it again and she did it again!! And mine has my number on it so it's not like she didn't know. I'd be tempted to take all their bins but like I say it's a bitter subject for me....

peak2021 · 21/02/2021 16:54

Take yours back, paint a number on it.

If you want any form of revenge, just report any breaches of Covid restrictions.

Summersun2020 · 21/02/2021 16:54

You’ve got their address. I’m ok, say “I see you’ve had our recycling bin. It’s clearing ours, don’t take it again”.

CtrlU · 21/02/2021 16:56

I would take my old bin back - with the new bin aswell.

Bloody cheeky thieving twats!

Slub · 21/02/2021 17:07

I would Nick their bin and be tempted to set fire not really but this sort of thing really pisses me off!
