...to think you all agree that Daniel Bedingfield’s ‘if you’re not the one’ is the song of a stalker?

IABU - it is a great love song, sung with feeling and angst

IANBU - it is a RED FLAG 🚩 of a song, with manipulative bullshit and stalkery tendencies

Yanbu but then most song/film depictions of romantic love are stalkery.

Eg everything but the girl's "Missing" is really creepy and also narrates the actions of a loser, but was apparently urban cool?

JaneExotic · 21/02/2021 13:25

And The Police’s ‘every breath you take’ - Sting said he has no idea why people play it at their weddings!

It's not any more disturbing than Coldplay's Yellow.

TheQueef · 21/02/2021 13:26

Sting has made a career of it, Roxanne etc.
Wrong un that Sting.

Toorapid · 21/02/2021 13:27

Human behaviour is downright weird all told. Loads of women tell fond/proud stories of how their partner set his heart on winning her and didn't give up until she gave in.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 21/02/2021 13:28

It's just so whiny!

NoFacebook · 21/02/2021 13:28

@JaneExotic yy it's quite clear in the lyrics what's going on and StungSting Tips Sting has always been very explicit that it's written from the pov of a lunatic but people just ignore him. Poor old StangSting.

Anyonebut · 21/02/2021 13:29

@TheQueef, Sting’s songs are clearly depicting stalkerish losers, not meant to be romantic in any way.

goldielockdown2 · 21/02/2021 13:29

Its shit but not stalkerish

NoFacebook · 21/02/2021 13:30

Omg I'd completely forgotten about his PimpStang middle period. 😮 But yes you're right about Roxanne @TheQueef.

feistyoneyouare · 21/02/2021 13:33

Good grief. IMHO it's just the song of someone who's devastated at the thought of losing a lover. I don't think it's necessarily meant to be something that's sung to that person, more the singer's inner musings imho.

At this rate song lyrics won't be allowed to contain anything except crap about sunshine, roses and sweet little fluffy kittens.

@TheQueef

Sting has made a career of it, Roxanne etc. Wrong un that Sting.

Apparently Plain White T’s Hey There Delilah was written about a girl he never dated, just “admired from afar” and she was a bit creeped out by it

He did meet her though. He was trying to impress her at a party because he was an unknown musician and she was a successful athlete, so he told her he'd write a song about her and that it would become famous. She was pretty sceptical and he was like "no, no, I really will". They'd both got with other people by the time it won a Grammy.
