Why would I need to have unattractive writing on a bread bin

Mydogisagentleman · 21/02/2021 09:42

I really dislike labels and patterns on clothes and accessories.
I am in the middle of planning my kitchen and we are going to paint it next weekend.
The the place where I work got a new bread bin and I really want the same.
I went to the range and they don’t have blue or white.
I’ve checked out eBay and Amazon and all the ones I like have bread written on the side.
Essentially AIBU to want a plain metal bread bin

@MacDuffsMuff

Are you unreasonable for not wanting a certain type of bread bin? Really?

God almighty.

I agree. Who cares its just a bread bin. I remember someone in work who spent ages looking for the perfect kitchen bin. I was like wtf it's just a bin. Just buy any old one!
ptumbi · 21/02/2021 11:34

Are there local craft shops whose online presence you can look at and see if they can help? - oh god don't do this!

Anyone remember the thread (a few years ago now) from the OP who purchased a bread bin from a drawing - and the 'crafter' made it out of old pallets and wrote BrEAd on the side? And charged her (I think) about £100 for something that looked nothing like what the drawing?

It was funny and horrifying. I can;t remember what happened in the end, and I initially thought this thread was a revisiting of that.

whatsthatnow74 · 21/02/2021 11:35

The only time I'd consider storage tins with text on is if they're vintage, enamel type ones, ideally a bit battered and with the labels in French. God, how pretentious does that sound?!!

BillMasheen · 21/02/2021 11:39

DH put a breadbin in our kitchen. It had BREAD written on it. I did not want a breadbin. Much less a labelled one. I lost that one.

He put the bread in. Then as predicted, forgot about it. Three consecutive occurrences of having to clear green gunge that used to be bread, and he admitted I was right.

We now keep crisps in it. Tbh I do like it for that. The crisps used to fall out of the cupboard on to me. Now they don’t

agreyersky · 21/02/2021 11:47

@LApprentiSorcier

If Argos isn't posh enough for you, OP, John Lewis also have 16 bread bins in stock, and only two of them have 'bread' written on them.

Did you actually look for an unscripted bread bin before you started the thread? Confused

I love what pisses some people off Grin
sweeneytoddsrazor · 21/02/2021 11:48

Bread bins don't bother me but I do quite like writing on my tea and coffee ones. Mainly because I am buying them for that and if I want coffee I don't want to open the sugar or tea one. You can guarantee that nobody else will put them inthe same order they will get moved but they do seem to be able to keep the writing at the front

Shrivelled · 21/02/2021 11:48

What is ridiculous is why so many people keep bread in a bin. Just keep it in the cupboard with the rest of the food in a suitable container. Problem solved OP.

LowlandLucky · 21/02/2021 11:53

Why do bread bins have lift off tops, where the hell are you supposed to put the lid whilst you are rooting about? Not every kitchen has loads of worktop

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/02/2021 11:54

I don't keep just bread in my bread bin. It has waffles, hot cross buns, wraps, rolls, croissants, pancakes, crumpets... (Not all of these all the time) it keeps them neat and all together. Not everyone has lots of cupboards for food.

daisychain01 · 21/02/2021 11:55

When we redesigned our kitchen the first thing I did was get rid of the bread bin which took up space on the work surface - we keep our bread in one of the cupboards with a pull out shelf.

In face we've got rid of all the tut off our work surfaces that collect dirt (mug tree out! utensils out! Bread bin out!). It's lovely now, lots more space, minimalist in fact, and makes it really easy to keep the surfaces clean.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 21/02/2021 12:01

I was just going to ask if anyone else rebels and puts different things in them. I bulk buy coffee bags and store them in my 'bread' bin

We keep our milk in the washing machine.

You could always wear it as a lovely hat.

BrowncoatWaffles · 21/02/2021 12:04

I feel your pain. I was looking for a large, black metal bread bin, big enough for ALL the stuff we have after years of having a loaf of bread in a bin and then bagels and other stuff all over the side next to it.

The best I could find in the end had a twee drawing of baked goods on it (on both sides). I bought it because it was perfect except for that. Have covered the drawing with magnets!

c75kp0r · 21/02/2021 12:06

Buy and old-style pressure cooker. Keep your bread in that. Works for me. (Though I already had the pressure cooker and I wouldn't have bought one just to keep bread in but it doesn't have writing on it* so that might work for you)
*It used to have a list of cooking times on the handle but they had largely wore off by about 1998.

whatsthatnow74 · 21/02/2021 12:07

Can I suggest a bread drawer? We use a deep kitchen cupboard drawer for all of our bread storage. Worth the sacrifice as it keeps everything together and off the worktop.

muddyford · 21/02/2021 12:07

I have a white enamel Falcon bread bin (from Amazon) with the BREAD only on one face, so if you turned it round...

littlesheepdog · 21/02/2021 12:08

Swan do a retro style blue one.

Why would I need to have unattractive writing on a bread bin
doctorhamster · 21/02/2021 12:10

I have a plain metal one that I've had for probably about 10 years now. It came from one of the supermarkets (probably sainsburys)

sparkysdream · 21/02/2021 12:13

OP.if you post one you like, but that has the offensive lettering on, maybe someone can find you one very similar with no writing. I like a shopping challenge!

Haveyouallgonequitemad · 21/02/2021 12:18

I haven't got a breadbin but if I wanted one I would Google and order from one of the 5 million breadbin shops online and prob get next day delivery from amazon how hard can it be

2bazookas · 21/02/2021 12:31

Sometimes love goes stale. If you can't live with that crummy breadbin just LTB.

SmudgeButt · 21/02/2021 12:33

@allBlackCatShadow

You think cats can't read? Then how do they know which food to refuse?

MIL had a microwave that she hardly used so it became a very expensive bread bin Grin

I assumed they just waited to see a bulk delivery of their preferred brand to arrive before changing their minds.

They do indeed, and then they tagteam the dog food whilst she sits there cowering in fear. Grin
