Why would I need to have unattractive writing on a bread bin

I really dislike labels and patterns on clothes and accessories.
I am in the middle of planning my kitchen and we are going to paint it next weekend.
The the place where I work got a new bread bin and I really want the same.
I went to the range and they don’t have blue or white.
I’ve checked out eBay and Amazon and all the ones I like have bread written on the side.
Essentially AIBU to want a plain metal bread bin

Actually just got rid of ours. We rarely have fresh bread in the house, we keep toasting bread and rolls in the freezer so it was just taking up valuable worktop space!

JamMakingWannaBe · 21/02/2021 10:03

Try Dunelm Mill.

LApprentiSorcier · 21/02/2021 10:04

Personally I just keep bread in the cupboard.

LApprentiSorcier · 21/02/2021 10:06

Lakeland - 13 bread bins, only two say 'bread' on them.

LApprentiSorcier · 21/02/2021 10:07

The Range - 10 bread bins, 50/50 between scripted and unscripted.

I love that on a thread about bread bins posters are conducting independent research before posting, but on a thread about something hyperbolic on a public health subject? Nah.

LApprentiSorcier · 21/02/2021 10:10

Dunhelm - 58 bread bins, only 20 have 'bread' written on them.

NoSquirrels · 21/02/2021 10:10

Just choose a different style of bread bin. Or turn it round so the ‘bread’ bit faces the wall? You don’t usually see writing on roll-top ones so shouldn’t be an issue?

I’ve never had a bread bin issue but I am irritated by sets of coffee/tea/sugar tins with writing on (what if we want one for herbal tea not sugar) and sets of tins that are 3 different sizes from small to large, because they’re never the right sizes.

Are there local craft shops whose online presence you can look at and see if they can help? Or wait a few weeks, perhaps couple of months at most until non-essential shops re-open?

LApprentiSorcier · 21/02/2021 10:16

So in my sample of 5 well-known homeware shops, 71% of bread bins in stock do not have 'bread' written on them.

A thread complaining that not enough bread bins have 'bread' written on them would be more reasonable.

NewScone · 21/02/2021 10:24

I'm a rebel and keep the sugar in a "tea" jar

Gwenhwyfar · 21/02/2021 10:24

@WeeDangerousSpike

It's so irritating when you find a lovely storage container set, but it's got 'tea' etc on it. Sometimes they even helpfully put it on both sides Hmm
What harm does it actually do? I think this is some kind of weird snobbery.
bellsbuss · 21/02/2021 10:24

I haven't had a bread bin for 15 years now and don't know anyone who still uses them, I have a drawer for all bread products.

GolfForBrains · 21/02/2021 10:30

If you really want the work one, can you ask if you can buy a replacement for work and have that one? I bet no one would care.

DeliaOwens · 21/02/2021 10:30

What about Bread Pro Keeper or maybe Bodum range of bread boxes?

OwlinaTree · 21/02/2021 10:31

We forgot to empty our bread bin before going on holiday for two weeks. Came home and Envy. Got rid after that and haven't had one since!

Bungalowlady · 21/02/2021 10:31

Thread title is misleading
Sounded like only attractive writing is good for bread bins.
Sharpies are your friend in this case Smile

GolfForBrains · 21/02/2021 10:31

(I am assuming it was an office but just seen you have said "the place where I work" - obviously not if you are a nanny or a carer in someone's home!)

NoSausageRoll · 21/02/2021 10:33

Bread bins are a waste of space. Just stick it in the cupboard. Problem solved.

TatianaBis · 21/02/2021 10:33

I managed to find biscuit tin to store birdfood with only a B on. B for birds, obviously.

TomorrowIsAnotherDae · 21/02/2021 10:33

I purchased this one. It comes in different colours

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 21/02/2021 10:35

No one is saying it doesn any harm Confused , we're all entitled to have a view on the aesthetics of things we have in our house, how do you get from not wanting writing on your receptacles to being snobby?

AnotherCovidQuestion · 21/02/2021 10:35

Missing the whole point in the thread, I do realise, but my DH keeps insisting bread bins make bread stale and mouldy faster, and so refuses to place the loaf hidden out of view inside the bread bin. Instead, it gets plonked right beside it, on the outside of said bread bin. Sigh.

MacDuffsMuff · 21/02/2021 10:36

Are you unreasonable for not wanting a certain type of bread bin? Really?

God almighty.
