Not a conspiracy thing..just what are your thoughts on him? So much flying around about farm land, vaccines etc etc
What’s up with Bill gates?

@ssd I was joking, but really I wonder if it’s quite upsetting to read all the horrible comments when you’re putting so much effort in etc.

malificent7 · 19/02/2021 23:50

I think he is a genious but not in the same league as Elon Musk who is a visionary....tesla electric cars are the future plus space travel
Not sure why the conspiracies are so rife..

fallfallfall · 19/02/2021 23:53

my dh is reading his latest book right now and says it is well written and easy to follow along (despite one grammar/spelling/typo in the first 3 chapters).
i recently heard him speak, and he was a pleasure to listen to. carefully chosen words non inflammatory. well spoken.
wish he could be our pm...(who btw is justin trudeau and a dreadful dreadful painful person to listen to :( )

WannaCapybara · 19/02/2021 23:54

@ssd

I recently watched a Ted talk he did. It was from 5 years ago. He talked about the inevitability of a global viral pandemic and the consequences. It was as if he was describing life just now. He said if nothing is done now, this will happen. And it has, 5 years later.

Well worth a watch.

I just wish he'd go into politics.

He's millions of times more effective doing what he's doing now!
thepeopleversuswork · 19/02/2021 23:55

imagine if you were working so hard to want to improve things and pass on your wealth and all you read was nasty comments, wouldn’t you think ‘Well, F you all then!’

Nah... people like this don't have time to waste worrying about what half-wits on talkboards think about them.

Don't forget when he ran Microsoft he got endless flack, not just from the media and the public but governments and regulators. He must be completely Teflon by now.

teachermummy1 · 19/02/2021 23:57

Probably just a philanthropist.
Now I don't support the concept of billionaires, but whenever someone very rich attempts to incite change into society, people will always condemn their actions and be suspicious of it.

malificent7 · 19/02/2021 23:58

Anyone who makes that amount of money is very talented and thinks outside the box.

OldRailer · 19/02/2021 23:59

He won't spend his days reading conspiracy theorists though.

Even I only know about the bare outlines from bits gleaned off Mumsnet! And I haven't got saving the world on my to do list.

OhWhyNot · 20/02/2021 00:02

An incredibly successful intelligent man who has a social conscience as does his wife and they want to use their money and influence to improve the lives of those less fortunate

Something to admire

I’ve heard the he is taking over the world nonsense Grin < it’s so ridiculous it’s funny

AlternativePerspective · 20/02/2021 00:12

imagine if you were working so hard to want to improve things and pass on your wealth and all you read was nasty comments, wouldn’t you think ‘Well, F you all then!’ no because people like that don’t do it for the accolades, they do it because they genuinely care and want to and can make a difference.

And I find it bizarre that the kinds of morons who think that he is taking over the world are the types who vote for the likes of Donald trump who are far more dangerous and have never done a good thing in their lives which didn’t benefit them personally.

Midlifephoenix · 20/02/2021 00:16

He's just published a new book about climate change, that's why he's all over the place. They serialised it on Radio 4 this week.

TrickorTreacle · 20/02/2021 02:22

Can someone please explain about Bill Gates and the conspiracy about microchips in the covid vaccine? It sounds to me like someone has been watching too much Red Dwarf! a.k.a. "nanobots" that got injected into the ship's crew. I don't want to google it as it will then show up on my account history and my ISP will then know that I have searched for it. I'm definitely NOT a conspiritard :-P

Putting that aside, I have a lot of respect for most MS products as MS have been around for all of my life. MS DOS in the 80s, Windows in the 90s onwards, MS Office although I don't wholeheartedly agree with all of their "improvements". Not fussed about the Xbox, as I always thought it was a weird move for MS to bring out a games machine. MS Teams as we all know has been a godsend over the last year. The history was that Teams was eventually going to replace Skype, but the pandemic simply speeded that process up.

Sushirolls · 20/02/2021 02:28

I think it's shit that he's trying to push us not into eating meat and buying up land so that he can force it.

peak2021 · 20/02/2021 06:48

I heard him speak at an event in Hyde Park a few years ago. A recording of it would be a cure of insomnia, he was the most boring speaker I have ever heard. Given that I have heard two European Council presidents speak, I am sure you can imagine how boring he was.

FOJN · 20/02/2021 07:27

Just saw this on YouTube, it gives a different perspective on Bill Gates philanthropy. I can't possibly know BG motives for anything but I do have concerns about the amount of influence unelected people can acquire and deploy in pursuit of their own agendas.

It's a Russell Brand video called, The Great Reset: Bill Gates and Farming. I don't always agree with RB but I'm open minded enough to appreciate the food for thought. For those who think The Great Reset is a conspiracy you might want to visit the World Economic Forum website, it's ultimate aims appear wholesome and benevolent but I have yet to be convinced it isn't intended or will result in further concentration of wealth and power with a small number of already wealthy and powerful people.

Teewithmo · 20/02/2021 08:24

@FOJN That’s the part I’m confused about, the farming, why?

Putting money into untrendy areas of research like Malaria makes him a very good man in my book. He's not done any of it for the likes or accolades. He's a problem solver and has the means to solve some big problems.

And it's always been fantastic that the man from "evil Microsoft" was the one who did this. And not any of the rich people from better liked corporations.

pandora206 · 20/02/2021 08:35

He's a very intelligent man. They've been serialising his book 'How to avoid a climate disaster' on Radio 4 this week. It's really thought provoking.

FOJN · 20/02/2021 08:52

Teewithmo

Honestly, I have no idea but land is always a sound investment and as someone else pointed out control over food is a very good way of exerting control. I'm waiting to see how it all plays out, unfortunately I think it will be too late to do anything about it if, by the time to motives become clear, we decide its not in our best interests.

OldRailer · 20/02/2021 09:43

Now I have heard about the Gates's work on malaria

DumplingsAndStew · 20/02/2021 09:47

I doubt he reads Facebook or gets his scientific advice from YouTube.

DumplingsAndStew · 20/02/2021 09:50

@Sushirolls

I think it's shit that he's trying to push us not into eating meat and buying up land so that he can force it.
And what do you think he's trying to do that for?
OldRailer · 20/02/2021 09:55

It's interesting to Google what silicon valley moguls allow their kids by way of online access/ social media.

This might give a clue as to how likely they are to be reading inline comments themselves.
