To feel worried after eating edamame pod

I ate an edamame pod earlier. I did not realise you are not supposed to. Now I am worried it will cause a blockage or something. Has anyone ever done this?

😂😂😂😂

I think it will be ok. Just a tough mangetout.
I'm assuming you managed to swallow it?

NewScone · 19/02/2021 21:22

A quick Google suggests you'll be fine unless you eat the bean in the middle raw.

AgentProvocateur · 19/02/2021 21:22

No-one’s done it and lived to tell the tale. 🪦

AllTheWayFromLondonDAMN · 19/02/2021 21:24

I did this the first time I ever ate edamame.... no one told me I wasn’t meant to, I thought it was like mange tout 😂 anyway, it was at least 20 years ago and I’m still here.

AllTheWayFromLondonDAMN · 19/02/2021 21:24

@AgentProvocateur this made me absolutely howl.

ShirleyPhallus · 19/02/2021 21:25

Ah no OP you didn’t did you? My uncle ate one once and now he has a whole edamame tree growing out of him.

TigerDroveAgain · 19/02/2021 21:25

Oh noooooooooo

WhatWouldTheNeighboursSay · 19/02/2021 21:25

The fibrous pods are too tough to digest, so probably will come through relatively intact.
You don't need to worry about it causing a blockage unless it was the size of a brick or you ate a kilo of them.

They tend to be served in the pods because you get the flavour of the cooking spices when you pop them from the pod into your mouth; but as they are reminiscent of mangetout etc, it's understandable why you could mistakenly try to eat the outer pod. Pretty hard going to chew though, I'm impressed you managed it

Evanna13 · 19/02/2021 21:29

Thanks everyone, it actually was quite easy to chew. At least I did not eat the whole bowl.
