I would say usually I'm controlled and disciplined. I'll have eaten 'clean' 85% of the time. I exercise regularly.

But OMG, I've lost it. I'm snacking, overeating, eating rubbish - everything. It's mostly because I've lost my usual routine, DC at home, 3 meals a day, endless cooking.

I hate myself. I need to get a grip.

ADVICE please

Log everything.
Meal and snack plan.
Just knowing when the next snack is and what it is helps me when I'm bored/stressed.

Buy and use what you have planned. Same for the children. At breakfast tell them 'we're having noodles for lunch, if your hungry before then have an apple/carrot/cream cracker'.

When everyone is eating to a routine, it's much easier.

MarshaBradyo · 19/02/2021 18:29

Low carb

gamerchick · 19/02/2021 18:31

I log everything on MFP. It's definitely helped rein me in

lastqueenofscotland · 19/02/2021 18:34

Meal planning religiously helps me.
I also don’t keep snacks in the house. Knowing I won’t be arsed to walk to the shop at 9:30 at night for some crisps

ilovewinterpansies · 19/02/2021 18:34

Sorry I think it's a case of give up and give in. When things open up and lockdown eases it'll be easier.

It's just too damn miserable now to deny yourself the simple food and alcohol pleasures. I'm usually so controlled too but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Tambourinetunes · 19/02/2021 18:35

I log everything on My Fitness Pal at the start of the day then chose what to eat and when. I find that way I feel I have choices and don’t feel as restricted.

SarahBellam · 19/02/2021 18:35

You can eat anything you want as long as you drink a pint of water first.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 19/02/2021 18:39

Timings. Eating only at set times which includes 2 snacks. If I miss the time window🤷🏻 I am not eating it

BrideofBideford · 19/02/2021 18:43

I’m with you there

I normally do sport 10hrs a week. Now I just walk the dog.

Am sad and the only thing I can look forward to is food

I have decided I’ll try and be a bit careful, but other than that ... as long as sport is illegal (fucking hell! Even socially distanced sport, or sport with member of the same household is illegal, how the fuck are we meant to NOT get fat and depressed?! ) I just accept it now Sad

Eckhart · 19/02/2021 18:48

Low carb. And especially since I found out about the dementia link.

If you're eating rubbish - how did it get into your house? Address this.

CeibaTree · 19/02/2021 18:49

16:8 and low carb for me. Once my 'eating window' is over it's over. It's really stopped me snacking in the evening. Also I log everything on the Carb Manager app, which really helps me not pig out on crap!

MumofPsuedoAdult · 19/02/2021 18:52

Another one for 'log everything'. I 'gave myself a break' during lockdown 1 and 2 and gained a stone in the process (despite walking 10k steps a day). After Christmas I decided I would start logging my food, with no intention of dieting, but just to see how many calories I was consuming. Just that activity horrified me as it drew attention to the gratuitous snacking 'just because' and I naturally challenged myself ('are you actually hungry'?) and have now lost 6lbs since the start of Jan. No actual dieting just raised awareness.

longtompot · 19/02/2021 18:52

I have merrily munched through all the leftover Christmas chocs and treats (ds not at home, both dds don't eat chocolate) whilst doing dry Jan and have not lost anything. I have given up chocolate, cake and biscuits for Lent which I hope will help me lose a a bit, if only so my jeans don't feel quite so snug.
I know it's not a long term thing, but hopefully it'll reset my snacking habit.

Mintjulia · 19/02/2021 18:54

Keeping busy. I'm gardening & decorating as fast as possible because returning to work soon. If I'm busy, I don't snack.

ChancesWhatChances · 19/02/2021 18:55

Right now I keep asking myself if I’m actually hungry. I’ve gained about a stone and a half over the last year with exercising less and snacking because I’m fucking bored. I look and feel bloated and my skin has gone to hell, not to mention my stomach seems to have expanded in all directions. I don’t feel good anymore, so I ask myself if I’m hungry or if I’m bored. If I’m bored I leave the kitchen and find something to do with my hands

Turmericpie · 19/02/2021 18:55

Ok, logging it is the way forward.

I did try MFP once and found it both tricky and soul sapping.

I guess you get used to it?

I've done low carb for years - it's only since lockdowns that I've really lost my way.

And I have crap in the house because I have a family and whilst I am a scratch cook and we do have boundaries for DC, I'm not going to deny them sweet stuff etc when everything else is off

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 19/02/2021 18:57

I’m awful for mindless snacking , today has not been good 🙈 However, I have been doing the 5:2 since January and it’s working wonders for me- the fast days don’t bother me at all now, I actually look forward to them because I know I will be in control.
My non-fast days needs working on 😳 I find if I stay away from the sugar and dreaded carbs I’m ok but a cheeky slice of toast for breakfast & I’ll be snacking all day 😬😭

SchrodingersImmigrant · 19/02/2021 18:59

Yeah. Mfp is a bastard first week or two. But it gets better!

Multicover · 19/02/2021 19:00

Yep here too.
It’s crept up but I’ve gained a stone.
I went shopping today and bought ZERO treats/crisps/chocolate.
I’m going to do a three day ‘raw’ cleanse starting in the morning so literally just fruit, raw veg and water/green tea. I find that kick starts about 3-4Ibs weight loss which them gives me a bit of motivation.
We’ve also clear some space in the garage and set up a few weights, skipping ropes and an ancient TV/DVD combo with some equally ancient work out DVDs.
Hate feeling bleurgh and the weight gain is horrible. Enough!!

Cam2020 · 19/02/2021 19:02

I agree with logging. It's shocking how much things add up. I've been so bad throughout lockdown but recently I've just got to the point where I can't hack eating badly any more. I feel disgusting inside and out. Five, days in and feeling much better already.

M0rT · 19/02/2021 19:02

Get your summer clothes out and try them on. If they don't fit it will give you the goal of getting into them for when lockdown lifts and you can wear them outside!
If your happy with low carb maybe join the boot camp thread and just log there?
I used to do MFP but it was like homework so now I menu plan for the week with paper and pen, so I can do my shopping list.
Then just stick roughly to the plan, I change lunches and dinners if I forget to take meat out of the freezer for example but once I stick to allowed meals it's grand.

Anonanon12 · 19/02/2021 19:06

I'm struggling too and even if I plan a good day, I fall off the wagon! I fall off less badly though if I try to eat high protein and less carbs, scrambled eggs, chicken salads, fridge raiders chicken bites as a snack with an apple or cheese, boiled egg as a snack, I find I have less sugar cravings then. I still ha E a bit of cake a day and a takeaway once a week but it's helped to get in some higher protein snacks... I am however yet to be motivated to exercise... Maybe when the sun comes out more!

Eckhart · 19/02/2021 19:07

You could put the crap in a box with 2 padlocks on it. Keep the key to one yourself, give the other key to your kids. They can't take their sweets without you knowing, and you can't take them without them knowing. They won't let you eat them all up and they'll give you terrible guilt eyes as you eat Grin

Lemons1571 · 19/02/2021 19:13

I drink lots of zero calorie fizzy drinks. Not exactly great nutritionally. And sheer willpower. One or two slimming shakes in a day and a small dinner mostly salad. Nothing else. Well, coffee by the bucketload. Am still fat and all my clothes still fit, there is no justice!! Have just hit 4 stones lost, and another 4 to go - bloody hope the second wave notices a bit more!!

TurnStone · 19/02/2021 19:15

Sit on your hands. The ones that bring food to your mouth.
