AIBU to hate going for walks?

I'm still on maternity leave and DH is on furlough. We try to get out for a walk with our 8 month old most days so they can get a change of scenery and some fresh air.

However, I just can't stand going out - I hate the miserable cold weather, the fucking relentless grey skies and the boring, concrete, suburban area we live in with very little to see or do, particularly as everything is shut due to lockdown.

I just feel so lethargic, dread the thought of walking anywhere (it seems like so much effort to walk walk walk for an hour or two) and just CBA - I'd much rather sit at home on the sofa with a cuppa and some biscuits and put my feet up.

Is it normal to feel like this or am I exceptionally lethargic/lazy?

I can't bear it. I've actually started volunteering for a food redistribution charity that has walking delivery routes in the City as then I have to leave the house a couple of times a week. Otherwise I'll be coming blinking into the sunlight at the end of lockdown having never left the house.

Coasterfan · 19/02/2021 16:39

YANBU I love a nice walk around a country park or a national trust place but all of ours are about ten miles away and the local police have been quite exuberant here! Tramping round residential streets? Absolutely no thank you I can’t think of anything more boring and at 11 and 13 there’s no chance of the kids coming either! We did nt do it in the first lockdown and we don’t do it now!

wewillmeetagain · 19/02/2021 16:42

I love this thread, I honestly thought i was the only person who thought this! I absolutely detest going for a walk! It's pointless and boring! The only time i do it is to take the dog for a walk and thats only because i have to!

Alfaix · 19/02/2021 16:42

YANBU. I never went for walks for the sake of it pre Covid. A wander around a NT place or beauty spot, yes. To our local reservoir and back past the myxomatosis pandemic (it’s like a grisly watership down at the moment)- no chance.
I haven’t got dressed yet today and neither has DS. I have been in the bath for the past 2 hours.
DS has written a story, decorated 2 potatoes (don’t ask!) and we have played lots of Mariokart. We have sorted his room and have 3 bin bags of outgrown clothes. So a productive day if in PJs!
We are meeting friends for a walk tomorrow but that’s a social thing- walks are the only acceptable way to see people at the moment.

Squish3 · 19/02/2021 16:42

Go out religiously once a day to try and get my 15 week old some fresh air and break the monotony of being in the house just the 2 of us all day. I don’t drive so we’re stuck in our wee village when DH is away (works offshore) and I think I’ve walked every street in the village 100 times over 🙈😳

And don’t even get me started on Wheelie bins 😡 trying to get a pram round the village while playing our daily game of bumping on and off the pavement to avoid wheelie bins 😡 i can only imagine how it must be for a wheelchair user 😳

Mrsmummy90 · 19/02/2021 16:43

I love going for walks but even I can't be bothered going out every day.

I aim for every other/every few days.

This pandemic is sucking the life out of all of us. Don't beat yourself up about it.

CharlotteRose90 · 19/02/2021 16:44

I love going out and getting fresh air. Nothing more boring then being stuck inside all day watching tv. Luckily we have a dog and he gets 2 walks a day. Otherwise I’d be miserable and depressed.

GrallaceandWomit · 19/02/2021 16:46

I love walking with a dog but my dog passed away just before covid struck. I now have to walk with toddler DS who absolutely hates walks and has at least one tantrum every time. So no, I don’t enjoy walks anymore they’re miserable.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 19/02/2021 16:46

We have nice countryside on our doorstep but right now it's an absolute swamp. I usually love a walk but my god I'm sick of the same route every lunchtime. That said, I always feel better for it. But I'd also feel better for a night at the pub with friends or a meal out with my family. I feel for anyone in a not-very-nice area, it's rubbish isn't it.

GBand · 19/02/2021 16:46

I'm a long distance runner and have 3 dogs.

I totally empathise with the apathy for a 'walk'.

I have to walk dogs, and I'm out training on foot too. But a walk for walks sake. Nah.

SheCannaeTakeNoMoreCapt · 19/02/2021 16:47

Nor me. You'd think it was compulsory though the way some people go on

Well theres nothing else to do and you do actually need some semblance of exercise.....

Fuckadoodledoooo · 19/02/2021 16:48

I have an elliptical trainer..

MajesticWhine · 19/02/2021 16:51

I've got dogs so I walk whether I like it or not. But the joy has slightly gone out of walking now it's the only thing we can actually do. And it is bastard cold right now.

RoseMartha · 19/02/2021 16:52

I like walking.

I dont like walking the same 5 walks I have been mainly doing this lockdown.

I have tried to vary it a bit. I can get to the countryside for a walk but afterwards it looks like we have all taken mud baths because everywhere is a quagmire. And I can guarantee that one of us will fall in the mud, usually the same child but not always. The dc wont stick their clothes in machine or clean their boots etc off, so I dont enjoy that bit.

TabbyM · 19/02/2021 16:52

I like walking but my favourite route is too busy with people that don't keep their distance.

Enterthedragons · 19/02/2021 16:55

Yep so boring.

CyclesPerfecta · 19/02/2021 16:55

I love going for walks, I use it as my “me time” to have a break from the four walls and the kids. Also do zoom gym classes, there is nothing else enjoyable to do, so might as well do what’s allowed - exercise. I lost over half a stone since March, so the motivation to keep going is still there.

Orangedaisy · 19/02/2021 16:55

We’ve been doing 28km in 28 days with the dc and are up to 44km. It’s been great as the smaller one (3) is actually walking now whereas last lockdown she wasn’t. So it’s got a new lease of life for us. I imagine it would grate if we’d been doing it all year.

SeeYouInAnotherLife · 19/02/2021 16:56

Pre-Covid, I loved walking. It was one of my great joys. Something I really enjoyed both for the exercise and for being outside/close to nature. It was my chance to relax. Covid has, unfortunately, ruined it for me. I still go out every day with the kids as we all need fresh air and exercise but it was become a dutiful plod most of the time really. Sometimes we play games together but after all these months, summoning up enthusiasm for that is hard. Often it’s a case of getting it out of the way so we can all go back to sitting on the sofa.

CherryValanc · 19/02/2021 16:58

@rawalpindithelabrador

Robins are thugs. They eat butterflies. I'm just waiting for that annoying cuckoo to come back, fucking parasite, literally.
What?! The wankers.

Upto now I have always greeted Robins with a cherry "Hello"as I joyfully take my morning walk (whilst counting red cars). From this day forth all Robins will be met with a "Oi, wanker." (and all red cars will get the finger).

LuckyC27 · 19/02/2021 16:59

I have a 6 month old and am sooo bored of the same walks on my own plus the weather hasn’t been great for the last few months and my little one now fights when I try to get him in the pram so I haven’t been going out daily. I also like having a destination when walking, just wandering around aimlessly isn’t for me.

emmathedilemma · 19/02/2021 17:00

In general I don't mind walking but unless it's hiking up hills and the countryside I tend to see it as a means of getting from A to B, not just going round the block for the millionth time this year because there's nothing else to do and I feel like I should have some exercise and fresh air.

RubyFakeLips · 19/02/2021 17:02

Go when it’s dark, you can nosey into peoples homes and see their terrible decor choices.

I live in London, usually walk nearly everywhere, rarely drive. Would happily walk miles somewhere. Now I can barely drag myself out. Has to be to go somewhere, not just to walk. So I go about 9pm and have a nosey at what people are watching, the interiors etc. Streets are much quieter too.

pepperaunt · 19/02/2021 17:03

Agree with others - walking the same 5 walks is completely boring DH has to drag me out moaning all the way (live in London; parks too crowded)

Dustyboots · 19/02/2021 17:08

I usually love love love walking. Loved it much more before lockdowns. Go out religiously very day, taking the kids. But I feel like a zombie now, walking. It’s hard to appreciate the same things again and again.
